Jimmer Fredette Believes He’s Now Mentally Prepared for the NBA

Jimmer Fredette — who’s currently on a promotional book tour — says that following an underwhelming rookie season, he has improved his game quite a bit this summer. Fredette also claims that his mentality is a lot more suited to the NBA game and life heading into his second year. Per the Deseret News: “Fredette said his summer marriage to Whitney, a former BYU cheerleader, is the best decision he’s made and will help him in the NBA. He says marriage has changed him a lot and having a partner to share his ups and downs will prove valuable. ‘Whitney is an amazing girl and so supportive of me and now when I travel, she can travel with me so I don’t have to go at it alone and don’t have to worry about that part of my life and she will be there to support me just like I will be there to support her.‘ Fredette said thinking and worrying about basketball all the time can, sometimes, hurt a player. ‘The last three months has been great and I’m excited in what the future holds. Whitney is the best, she is so kind to everyone, understanding of my schedule and knowing what I have to do. She is supportive, just like I am with her.’ Fredette said his preparations for his second season in the NBA are far ahead of a year ago with a minicamp under his belt and knowledge of what he needs to do and what he cannot do. ‘Mentally, I’m more prepared.’ He said he’s worked extensively on his offense and defense, worked to create space and get his shot off quicker and worked on the pick-and-roll — a play he must master at that level. ‘I’m working on making floaters and other things that have to be a part of my game. I’m better than a year ago, my skills are better and I’m excited about the season and being part of it.’”

    lmao

  • bike

Once he gets his third or fourth wife, his game will get even better.

  • Kilo

He’d better be mentally prepared to ride the bench. They drafted the wing to repace him. Don’t know why people thought he could paly in the NBA anyways.

  • Walker

Just cuz you never saw the light of day on the basketball court, don’t hate a great :)

  • Walker

That’s a dumb comment! Good one bike, just. Cuz you can only get men

I hope he’s mentally prepared for the D-League….

    Lulz.

Man, what happened to this kid? He could score from anywhere passed half court in college. He AT LEAST could’ve carved a role spotting up for 3′s like Novak…

  • spit hot fiyah

mentally prepared to play behind thomes, evans and brooks

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

naw, he’s 6’1″ – Slow – can’t pass – can’t defend – isn’t athletic enough to create space against NBA defenders. He is just not an NBA player and the idea that he would be was ridiculous in the first place.
    .
I have felt this way since he was in college. I argued this with a lot of people here who thought he was going to be like Steph Curry.

  • Caboose

He should look at JJ Redick’s career and seriously just try to mirror it, because that really is his ceiling.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

someone in here is a total Jimmer homer. Lol, every negative comment about Jimmer has a down vote. If anything is more transparent than that person being an insulted girlfriend it has to be Jimmer’s inability to be a good NBA player.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

did Jimmer get you pregnant Walker?

  • nbk that know’s

The reason Jimmer had a rough first year is directly related to the failures of the Sacramento Kings, on any other team he would have been in the running for Rookie of the Year. He looked like the Jimmer of POY days when he was starting and getting minutes. Any player in his shoes, under Not so Smart would have struggled!, Jimmer was set up for failure before stepping on an NBA court, don’t count Jimmer out, expect big things in the next few years, especially if he can get out of Sacramento!! He’s not slow, do your homework, look at the Columbine results, his defense statistics were actually good, ranking in the top 50 in the NBA, look it up! He is an excellent passer with great court vision and actually is very athletic, he was also the top wide receiver recruit in NY State in HS his Junior year. nbk, go to You Tube and watch a little Jimmer if you felt that way when he was in College, either you never saw him play or…………..u know nothing about Basketball!

  • LakeShow

So you think he’ll be out of the L within 3 years?
I think he’ll carve a niche for himself.
I see him as 20-25 minute gunner PG. Think Jason Terry -1.

here you go butter cup, a recap of Jimmer Freddette season last year from a Sacramento Blogger, the most biast kind you can find.
    http://www.cowbellkingdom.com/2012/05/03/2011-12-sacramento-kings-in-review-jimmer-fredette/
    - “We are talking about a player that finished the season with a player efficiency rating of 10.8, good enough for 324th place in the NBA.”
    - His opponent PER was 17.9 at the PG position (90% of his minutes spent at PG) and 16.5 at the SG position. — Which is not good. It’s not average. It’s bad.
    - The Kings defense, was better without Jimmer Freddette on the court. Despite Jimmer playing mainly against second string players.
    - Jimmer’s defensive rating……114 – good for bottom of the league.
    - His defensive win shares was NEGATIVE 0.2
-His predraft athletic tests projected him as a mid-level to bottom of the heap athlete. So idk what you are talking about (Max Vertical of 33″ – 10.42 on the Agility Test) http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements.php?year=2011&sort2=DESC&draft=0&pos=1&source=All&sort=15
    - What Jimmer did in High School as a football player means absolutely nothing. I don’t know how you saying that proves anything about anything you said other than you not knowing what your talking about.
    - It’s nice that you are his biggest fan.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

3 years might be too soon. the prospect of seeing him play still sells tickets. Why do you think Sacramento reached for him in the lottery? because they thought he would be good? or because they can’t sell tickets? seriously.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

oh and he is nothing remotely close to Jason Terry. First of all, he’s 4″ shorter. And not nearly as athletic. Oh and Jimmer, despite his reputation is a horrible catch and shoot player. He’s only a good shooter off the dribble, except he’s not quick enough to create shots in the NBA. – did you watch him in the summer league? he couldn’t do shit against D-League players.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

just to put Jimmer’s athletic traits in perspective, i had a 33″ vertical my sophomore year of HS, and ran a similar agility test slightly slower. And i wasn’t even a top 3 athlete on my high school team.

  • LakeShow

No I didn’t see him play in the Summer L. Haven’t seen him play much in the NBA. Who has lol.
Still going off those amazing college highlights…
Bummer cause he was fun to watch at BYU.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    Here’s a recap of his summer league performance, Stats: 28.8 MPG, 18.0 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 3.4 APG, 35.8% FG, 21.9% 3FG
It’s still early, but Jimmer is close to being the newest inclusion on the list of transcendent college players who couldn’t cut it in the Association.
Jimmer’s hoisted 67 shots––including 32 threes––through five games, and only has an inefficient 18 PPG to show for it.
He’s cancer to a functional offense, too, dribbling the ball far longer than his coaches would like him to, preventing his team from getting into their sets.
With the signing of Aaron Brooks and the emergence of Isaiah Thomas, the writing may be on the wall for Jimmer’s exit from Sacramento. And it may be happening sooner rather than later.

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

Either that, or it’s the Jimmer himself!

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

lol, let’s hope he’s hanging out with his new wife with his free time.

  • bike

There might still be a glimmer of hope for the guy. JJ Redick had similar issues–not athletic enough, can’t defend, etc but he worked his tail off and is now a solid role player. Jimmer has to really put in the work just to get where JJ is right now. And that includes upping his FG% to something reasonable–considering shooting was supposed to be his strength.

  • Walker

ha. wow… good one dude, did it take your third grde reading level to spell pregnant.

  • Walker

oh lets come back to reality now nbk… you are not an athlete… never have been. your just someone obsessed with sports and bashing people cuz you are unable to participate in city league sports. need me to tell you what participate means.?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

LOL are you trying to bother or insult me? I hope not. You can do better. Go.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

It’s a first grade level, and I can look up any big words I need to spell on google. €8^)
    Sent from right behind you.

  • Walker

    neither
i just think its funny your trying to dis on a guy who was the best player in all of college. then got screwed and got put on the kings. weve seen what jimmer can do. 17 points in 10 minutes on 3-4 separate occasions which put them back in the game, then smart didnt play him the rest of the game.. dumb coaching. selfish players. for the record …. jimmers best percentage from the 3 or 2 was actually coming off screens or on the run getting the pass. ;) … when you are the best in all of college, your going to have alot of pressure to perform at the next level.. tell me your nerves wouldnt get to you. the kings are so selfish that if thorton or their big man didnt touch it, theyd be pissed the rest of the game. how bout this.. you go out there and show jimmer your 33″ hops as a soph. and maybe you can beat him? or better yet. make your high school team, cuz we all know you didnt

  • Walker

why no crap on kemba? jimmer hdbetter statistics all around except ppg

  • LakeShow

You sir are an internet gangster.

  • Walker

haha im just saying… people talk so much smack on him, its funny cuz their obviously not out there playing against derrick rose, or kobe, or dwade.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

is this article about Kemba Walker.

  • Walker

i respect you guys for not talking crap on me though. even though i didnt have worse year then jimmer and was on a team with the lowest win percentage in the history of the nba… this is kemba, im pissed at you though for talkin crap on my boy jimmer though. he’ll come around.. just like all of us.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Obviously Jimmer Fredette is a good scorer when he has opportunities to score, he was really good in COLLEGE. The problem is? This isn’t college (or high school football haha…smh) He can’t consistently create opportunities to score in the NBA. What he did 3 times, is irrelevant. What he did the 58 other times are what matter.
    .
And why are you getting upset and acting like i said i’m better than Jimmer Fredette? I was just putting into context how mediocre he is as an athlete, considering i’m a nobody lol – your anger isn’t proving anything other than some kind of irrational (unless he’s a family member or ex boyfriend, etc.) love for the guy.
    .
Saying he’s a bad NBA player is not an insult. It’s just an opinion. So far, a factually supported opinion.

  • LakeShow

Yeah, but we’re internet wannabe NBA bloggers.
It’s our duty to shit on people. :)
I liked Jimmer in college. Allot. He was a blast to watch. But nbk is right. He has yet to show us anything other than a glimpses. Kemba was better, and on a worse team overall.
I really hope Jimmer finds a way to succeed in the L.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

That’s why he should’ve stayed in college all four years. Wait a minute…

  • Junior Taylor

He is still not physically ready for the pro game. Just work on your catch/shoot game.

  • Sean B

4 inches shorter? Since when is Jason Terry 6’5???

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

it’s actually like 2″ or so in terms of head height. But standing reach wise, Terry has 4″ on Fredette if not more.
    .
Fredette was 6’0″ without shoes in predraft, Terry was something like 6’2″ for the record.
    .
Terry is just a much taller player. you can see when they are on the court, Terry physically matches up much better than Fredette.

  • Jimbo

Jimmer was too sick in college, now not so much.

  • Kels

I’m ready for Jimmer to have a good season! Good luck to him!

  • Marcos Garcia

    *apply cold water to burn

  • That Dude

goddamn nbk chill the f*ck out about Jimmer. He steal your girl or something? sh******iiiittt

  • Teddy-the-Bear

still, I hope he does well.

  • Pierce Breh

    the dude speaks the TROOF

  • Mike From Spain

Man, my vertical now is about 28 inches and I am in my mid 30s, with a heavy/muscular build and haven’t been an athlete competing at any level. If an NBA player has a vertical only 5 inches or so higher than mine, I am not mightily impressed.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Thank you Mike. All i was trying to do was show he’s not an NBA level athlete, especially at 6’0″ tall.

  • Iamsure

Trade him to the Jazz. Jimmer is an exciting player and I would buy seasons tickets if the Jazz bring him home ot Utah.
