John Wall Out 8 Weeks With Knee Injury

John Wall is out eight weeks due to “early stages of a stress injury to his left patella.” Wall will likely be out until late November, at the earliest, but no surgery will be required. Per Wizards press release:

Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that guard John Wall will miss approximately eight weeks after being diagnosed with the early stages of a stress injury to his left patella. No surgery will be necessary, and his rehab will begin immediately.

“My teammates and I are all excited to build on the improvement we made at the end of last season, and I know they will continue to make great progress while I get through this setback,” said Wall. “I will work extremely hard to make sure I get back as soon as possible so I can re-join them and help our team continue to improve.”

Wall was examined yesterday in New York by orthopedic specialist Dr. David Altchek after experiencing discomfort in his left knee and underwent an MRI that revealed the early stages of a non-traumatic stress injury.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i wonder if this happened in one of those pro-ams that he shouldn’t be playing in during the off-season….

  • Spaceship Jay

    Word nbk. Word.

Who do you think will start in his place? AJ Price or Shelvin Mack?

  • spit hot fiyah

feel free to read the text: non-traumatic

hope he recovers fast, i’m looking forward to seing him and beal together

  • Max

  • Drig

Wondering why the Wizards would let their prized asset play many games during the off-season along with training……..Hope he recovers fully though. I wanna see if he improved his jumpshot.

  • R32

Wall needs to get on that Stack Jack tip – no ball or working out in the off-season!

bummer. like i said.. i think this guy would be a great sidekick.. not a superstar

  • Datkid

  • Datkid

smh John Wall gotta get well soon and be awesome

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

I’m serious… i don’t think Wall could carry a team on his back

  • The Philosopher

Shouldn’t affect my money this season.
    He’ll be fine, hopefully.

  • Sandra

There goes the Wizards’ playoff aspirations.

    Get well soon, J Dub!

  • BOB

I’m guessing he has jumper’s knee – which is tendonitis or tendonosis of the patellar tendon. It’s an overuse injury, and very common with basketball players. Especially those with poor ankle flexibility.

Anyway, he should go get himself some PRP injections!

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

no he has the beginning stages of a stress fracture in his patella. Which is also known as your kneecap.

  • Datkid

I disagree. He just needs to develop more

  • Redd

  • Junior Taylor

I heard that knee injuries forces players (the hardworking ones) to improve their jumpshot because it limits all the running and jumping that they usually do and forces them to focus strictly on their shot.

  • MikeC.

Maybe the cRaptors can sneak into the 8 seed if Wall misses the whole first month.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

you really think he can be a superstar?

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

truth be told.. i think Kyrie Irving will carry his teams further the wall could ever,,

  • http://twitter.com/stepfdelaghetto Stepfan Raiford

You have got to be kidding me. Well there goes my prediction for my Wizards getting the 6th seed in the East.

  • Redd

Wall with a jumper is no joke. The kid has got heart & he has a skillset that still can improve. Instead of running pro-ams he should be training with the best & learning. so, yeah, the potential is there I think.

  • bravo

as the season starts the wizards are going to be going DOWNHILL

  • LakeShow

That prediction was doomed from the beginning.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

usually…..John Wall would rather play pick-up hoops for the highlight tapes tho

  • Jerome

Wall will not improve trying to get as much summer pu$$y as possible playing proams. Get serious or get used to mediocrity. The next 8 weeks will prove who this kid is.

  • TSmoove

    Brad Beal…time to step up

  • Blue

Unless he goes the Steve Francis route…then he’s screwed.

john wall is a bust BOTTOM LINE real talk all he cares about is playing in the stupid summer league “pro-am” games killing no name high school kids and getting alot of youtube views off of it him playing in the drew league in LA getting bent over by GAME and his homeboys and playing around in LA aint doing his career any good to be honest his career two years has been a joke john wall has been the most overrated overhyped player 1st overall draft pick to enter the league in quite some time but has been irrelevent for 2 years now

  • RKJ92

Kyrie Irving is WORLDS better then John Wall as long as wall keeps shooting 40% we can do without the hype THANKS

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

if he does that.. i agree with you. awesome street baller… needs to learn from the best

  • Redd

Better than anyone on the bunny Raptors lol.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

agreed. he needs to drop those pro-ams. they don’t expand his game

  • rainman

So much for Washington being potential playoff contenders. Make way for
Toronto (Not tha ti felt washington was better to begin with, but some
    people here did)

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

he needs to drop those pro-ams. they don’t expand his game

  • Datkid

shut the entire fuck up bitch.

  • Datkid

but why? literally the only thing Kyrie does better than Wall is score, and he shoots a better percentage. Wall is superior in every other facet and the instant he gains a jumpshot he’ll automatically be better. kyrie controls the flow of the game a little better but Wall has begun to limit his turnovers and out of control drives a lot more

  • Datkid

  • RKJ92

  • Datkid

that was maybe the gayest comment in slam history…. congrats weirdo.

  • MasterSplinter

Lol I forgot about Steve Francis. Good comparison, John Wall is definately similar. Just a little quicker.

  • bob

Oh. I thought they meant the patellar tendon. Damn. Nigger.

  • Redd

Yeah, it’s just that he hasn’t matured yet. He’s too busy chasing the fame. You’ll see him with celebrities always and talking about he’ll be an Allstar every year. He needs to stop it and grow up.

  • danpowers

well yes, people caring just about pro-am games are the type of people becoming nba starters… he is a promising nba prospect and wouldnt be the first nba star struggling early on in his carreer. ever realized the roster around him? even if his level of play would stay like this would make him anything but a bust. the only joke out here are you man. people with this cheap talk about athletes are just the ones not knowing what the fuck they are talking about. chump

  • danpowers

come on guys, let the kid play in pro ams. other guys do sight seeing in their time off. let the young players enjoy being superior above a level they just rose above not too long ago and giving their hometown community something to cheer (or in this case to boo lol). i dont really think that he or any other nba player would take these games as “training” or skip work-out time for this. only fucked up thing would be if theyd get hurt in these games, but so far there is no connection between a pro am game and this injury.

  • RKJ92

  • roscoe

idk if i am the only impressed by the preventative care. maybe jdub just got lucky idk.

  • omphalos

I had a similar injury to my right tibia, it’s just something that happens over time if you’re using your body in a way that puts unusual stress on the bones, certain muscle imbalances, overuse and faulty biomechanics are also to blame. Honestly it doesn’t surprise me that he’s got one of these injuries, Reebok’s shoes are so high off the ground your foot doesn’t get enough feedback to be stable and controlled. Zigtech in particular is awful for your knees because you’re always leaning forward, it’s like running downhill all the time, it puts unnecessary stress on your knees.

  • http://twitter.com/stepfdelaghetto Stepfan Raiford

lol I have to be optimistic as a true Wizards fan. I still expect a big year from Wall and to be honest besides the Heat, celtics, knicks, and nets those other four playoff spots are up for grabs.

Kyrie looks more focused on the court & he’s not afraid of being challenged. i even seen some games where he’s had to close em out. i think kyrie has more focus.

  • Teilhard Gentillon

    Get well man!

  • Datkid

    no, i don’t care you’re just annoying

  • Datkid

When has John Wall ever looked afraid of being challenged? lmao. but whatever bro, it’s your opinion.

  • Datkid

    to steve francis?? smh

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

i ain’t even saying dude can’t shine… what i am saying is.. Wall being a GRADE A sidekick would suit him better… well i guess we’ll have to see how much longer it takes Wall to ‘develop’

  • Datkid

i get what you’re saying… I just disagree. You see a sidekick. I see a perennial all-star and mvp candidate trapped with terrible teammates (a la lebron, but worse) in a terrible incompetent organization that refuses to help him(which IMO makes his situation worse than lebron’s cleave land is at least semi-competent). When and if John Wall leaves the wizards, as everybody w/ talent does, and goes to somebody who’s even remotely competent you’ll see the 2nd best guard to come out of NC just UNLEASHED upon the NBA.. I promise.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

alright. imma roll with you on this… ill have some more faith. wizards always let people down
