Kyle Lowry Believes the Raptors Can Make the Playoffs

According to new Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry, they have enough talent to qualify for the postseason. Per the Toronto Sun: “Lowry, 26, has heard the talk about how he is a step away from establishing himself as a tier-one NBA point guard and how he probably needs an entire season like the start of last year (when he averaged 15.6 points and 7.6 assists) to reach that lofty destination. But he’s up for the challenge. ‘Just play,’ he said, when asked what it will take to become an NBA all-star. ‘Just do what I’m allowed to do and to prove to (the Raptors organization) that they’re right for making the decision to bring me up here and believing in me.’ As for his suggestion that the Raptors may surprise some people, Lowry, like [Jose] Calderon and others on the team who has been properly briefed, Lowry believes Toronto can make the playoffs. ‘We’ve got great players who can score, who can shoot, who can get to spots, and my job is to make sure they get to their spots much easier and get easier shots, open shots,’ he said. ‘Be aggressive, attack, push the ball, push the tempo, make sure we always get a good possession, make sure the game’s under control and we’re playing the way we want to play … To be the head of the snake,’ he added, when asked what he hopes to accomplish in Toronto. ‘Just be up there. It starts with the point guard and as long as I’m doing what I’m supposed to do — getting up, pressuring, being talkative, loud, and being aggressive, my teammates got my back. And I know that if they see I’m up there working hard, they’re going to work hard for me, behind me.’”

  • spit hot fiyah

they have a legit shot at the playoffs, a lot will depend on how quick valnciunas can become effective

  • danpowers

kyle lowry believes the raptors can make the playoffs, jason terry believes in god, some kids believe in santa clause and unicorns, *yawn*

  • RKJ92

Dog go FUCK yourself.. Raptors are NICE, show some respect.

  • The Fury

    Nail in the coffin!!! LOL

  • RKJ92

I’m happy he has international experiance it should bode well.. hopefully his injury isnt a huge set back because I think this kid has bigtime star potential if he fills out his frame a bit more to get stronger in the post; I heard he’s somewhere around 240-45lb now after hitting weights which isnt as bad as I had thought.. Pau seems to hold HIS own around 250lb so we’ll see what happens.

  • danpowers

i wont like them too soon since they stole fields from the knicks

  • RKJ92

They didn’t steal him they fairly offered him a contract. YOUR team wouldn’t match and he became a Raptor on MY team, you can thank Dolan for that.. Doesn’t mean you talk ish bout My Raptors aiight!?

  • nick

Out of all the articles that you all talk crap, this one no one is talking, well ima say it, Kyle lowry is nasty, but he is clearly delusional….

  • RKJ92

Do you even realize the talent on our team right now?? I’d actually be shocked if we didn’t get the 8th seed in the east.. He’s deff not delusional he’s being realistic..

  • zogs19994

    OK
    SO WHAT YOUR SAYING IS
    - RAPTORS ARE SHIT…….ok
    - GOD IS FAKE….ok
    - SANTA CLAUSE IS FAKE……WHAAT!!! YOU SNAPPED!!!!

  • nick

do you see the talent on the wizards, nets, Knicks, Philly, Miami, Chicago, Indy, Milwaukee, Boston, and that’s more than 8…. but hey, if they make it, I’ll be happy, ol derozan deserves something…dude is most underrated and overlooked player in the nba

  • RKJ92

LOL ITS OKAY HE JUST DOESNT KNOW YET.. TORONTO’S LEGITTTTT!!! LEGGOOOOO!!!!

  • RKJ92

LOLHAHA The WIZARDS!? Ooooo somebody help us duck for cover.. They’re naaaasstttyyy.. They’re best player can’t even shoot 44% or a 3 pointer LOL they’re team is essentially John wall, undersized bbeal, and Nene who’s injured I SMELL A PLAYOFF BERTH LOL!! Toronto’s 8 spot seed is all relying on whether the Nets stay the Nets and are still shit.. And to be honest I’m not buying into any of that hype I’m hearing until I start watching them play.. Talk is cheap actions will show how nice they will be.

  • RKJ92

Aswell Milwaukee is shit too Toronto is most DEFINITELY better then a Monte Ellis and Jennings backcourt ANYDAY.. that’s possibly one of the worst combinations I’ve ever seen they’re defense is atrocious..

  • RKJ92

    Monta*

  • Chinadian

    that killed me hahaha!

  • danpowers

i dont talk ish when i say they aint playoff caliber. they didnt want to get fields in the first place, they just wanted it to make harder for the knicks to get nash. not really a bad thing to do but in my world this is a bitchmove. dont want to get too sore about the raps as we got a nice replacement in brewer and there is no such a thing as a rivalry between our two teams

  • danpowers

lol shit, got me on this one

  • nick

Lol you guys are cracking me up! Thanks! Lol look out for the raptors, lmao

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

  • nick

Oh yah you guys resigned maglore, you’re good then, yeah I was wrong, lmao

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

Yea maybe the Raptors have a shot at an 8 or 7 seed….but ill believe it when i see that they can field the same lineup for more than a week.

  • MUBWAR

    all day everyday

  • zogs19994

    Except tuesday’s….toonie tuesdays

  • RKJ92

I never said that Mike DURDUR Gilbert who thinks the Nuggets are better then the Lakers and Heat from your post yesterday LOL, WHAT I SAID Mike DURDUR Gilbert was that i’m not buying into any hype for a team that gets back brook lopez (a center that cant rebound and only shoots 49% from the floor), joe johnson (nice player but not gonna change a whole teams record overnight like LeBron) and Andray Blatch (who can barely stay in shape) im not saying theyre gonna be bad but im not saying theyre contending until they prove it just remember that with deron williams, marshon brooks, gerald wallace, kris hump, and theyre 5 man I cannot remember at the moment they finished with one win less then the raptors…. and we didnt even have Bargnani… lol

  • RKJ92

Yo where y’all from just wondering?? im from the victoria park strip, on cataraqui.

  • Francis

It seems like every team is gonna make the playoffs this year…

  • RKJ92

KYLE LOWRY, TERRENCE ROSS, DEMAR DEROZEN, ANDREA BARGNANI, AND JONAS VALACIUNAS — WITH JOSE CALDERON, LANDRY FIELDS, LINAS KLEIZA, ED DAVIS, AND AARON GREY OFF THE BENCH — WE SOLID NIGGA!!!

  • RKJ92

NOT MILWAUKEE AND WASHINGTON RIGHT NICK!? LOL

  • RKJ92

SIGNING MAGLOIRE WAS TO HELP OUR YOUNG BIGS OUT YOU IGNORANT FUCK! OBVIOUSLY HES NOT GONNA PLAY HES OLD AS SHIT..

  • MUBWAR

dude you’re a knicks fan. the joke of the league for a few years now. your blabbering about the raptors means nothing

  • RKJ92

WHO WOULD VOTE DOWN THAT HONESTLY!? LOL EVEN CHRIS BOSH VOTED IT UP…

  • James aka…

Did you go to Warden P.S.?

  • RKJ92

That was my homeschool I was there in grade 2 but I punched some kid in the face in my first week and they transferred me to JG.Workman on Birchmount and Danforth lmaoo.. I shoulda went to Warden then Oakridge though.. eventually I ended up in birchmount (y)

Toronto is not making the playoffs guys. But Kyle Lowry has to say this, he has no other choice.

  • RKJ92

nbk, I know you know your shit about basketball but do you seriously think the raptors would get beat in the 8th spot to either the wizards or bucks? cuz i just really dont ever see that happening man..

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Miami, Boston, Brooklyn, Indiana, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, should be the top 8 teams in the East.
    .
The only teams I see supplanting one of them are
    - Washington (assuming all these veteran pieces allow Wall to make a big jump)
    - Cleveland (if that team is healthy, Kyrie could lead them to the playoffs, but i doubt it)
    .
Toronto is atleast another year out, they have to figure out their big man rotation, they have to find a way to feature Bargagni on offense while hiding him on defense – to the tune of winning more than they lose. Valunciunas needs at least a year to acclimate himself with the speed of the game. Demar DeRozan is still a couple years from being a player that helps your team win games as a top 3 player on the court. They have a roadblock of wings with, DeRozan, Fields, Kleiza, & Acy. It’s going to be a rough year in Toronto, too young, too much change, not enough balance.
    .
    in my opinion.

I figure Orlando’s playoff spot is up for grabs this year, Nets should be taking that. There may be another spot due to Bulls or even Hawks falling off. Toronto should be in the mix if everybody stays healthy and Lowry makes that next leap. Of Course if Lowry and DeRozan make that next leap they have a really strong chance of getting in. I’m not sure the Wizards are there yet, Milwaukee has no chance but people are forgetting about Cleveland who I would consider giving a slight edge over Toronto.

See my reply to RKJ just below this.

  • RKJ92

I actually completely agree with everything you just said from the top 7 teams (I know you mentioned the 8 just hear me out) to your analysis on the Raptors, though I will say Bargs has been a little bit better defensively this year then he was in previous years, I agree with your comments on Vala, DeMar, the defense, the wings, but even with all that I still think that the 8th spot is a complete toss-up because this depends how Atlanta copes with a completely new roster and horford coming back from injury AND without joe johnson now, plus exactly what you said about washington, and cleveland IMO is completely dependant on how well waiters pans out in the league before they even sniff the 8th seed.

  • RKJ92

because as of right NOW cleveland needs a 2nd scoring option and if waiters cannot score at least 16-18ppg at decent fg%’s from the floor and 3pg, you can completely count cleveland out from the 8th seed

Playoffs may be a reach, but I think the Raptors will definitely be in the race. They’ll be either 8th or 9th by the end.

  • floe

    leyton in da house!

  • Guest

Are you the guy that thinks the Raptors are better than the Nets? smh

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Regarding Cleveland, that is why i said, i doubt they make the playoffs.
    .
Atlanta is still good, I don’t think losing Johnson will hurt them very much at all. And it certainly doesn’t put them behind Toronto. Horford is 100%, he wouldn’t have played in the Olympics (qualifying i mean) if he wasn’t. They have Devin Harris playing with Teague, so their PG rotation is definitely improved. Josh Smith will have an increased role offensively, which to me indicates, he will probably be more effective everywhere else. Plus, I just feel an offense running through Horford will be more effective than the one running through Joe Johnson.
    .
Washington is who is dangerous, with a starting lineup of John Wall, Bradley Beal, Trevor Ariza, Nene, & Emeka Okafor. That team is very very improved over last season.
    .

  • RKJ92

    Yeeeeee!!! leytons dope!!
