Metta World Peace Doesn’t See ‘Anybody’ Getting Past the Lakers

With a revamped roster, the Los Angeles Lakers have the right to be confident—but we don’t know about this confident. When questioned by ESPN radio, Metta World Peace said he thinks L.A. is going to go all the way this season, and sounded absolutely positive about that fact.

More details, via ESPNLosAngeles:

“Los Angeles Lakers forward Metta World Peace joined the Max and Marcellus Show on 710 ESPN radio on Friday to discuss the team’s upcoming season and share his thoughts on the reconstructed roster. ‘With the way the Lakers are looking this year, I don’t see anybody getting past us this year at all,’ World Peace said. Despite the Lakers’ exit in the second round of the NBA playoffs last spring, World Peace says he believes the team developed good chemistry under coach Mike Brown. ’Not only does he have confidence in his team, he also has confidence in himself,’ World Peace said. ‘I gotta trust in myself, trust in my teammates most importantly.’”

also worth noting is that he doesn’t see his own insanity.

  • spit hot fiyah

jokes aside though, that is what he is supposed to say and believe. him regaining his old form is the major x factor for the lakers. (and howard’s health)

  • bravo

i agree only team that can touch lakers are the toronto raptors…….OKAY!

  • Junior Taylor

They may have confidence in all the talent they amassed but do they have confidence in Brown’s ability to get the most out of that talent?

  • Brock

I agree with spit it’s what he is supposed to go about saying and believing. I don’t think they’ll have as much trouble as the Heat did because their three players (Steve , Dwight, Kobe) are a much different three than Bosh, James, and Wade.

  • shutup

Saw Ron this offseason quite a bit in the club, don’t know how focused on basketball he is, dude got severely hammered each time, not that it’s not his right to do so, but it makes one question his dedication to his craft.

  • shockexchange

The Lakers are so talented it should be illegal … reminds the Shock Exchange of the stock market – rigged. However, there is one man who has foiled L.A. each of the past two years, and is the only one capable of keeping this Lakers team from the ‘chip.

  • danpowers

metta world peace also didnt see james hardens head getting past his elbow

    Jeanie.

  • LakeShow

According to the Lakers Health/Athletic training team he is in the best shape they have seen him in and has appeared to take this summer more seriously than any other in his time in LA.
Who know’s if this is true, but I don’t know why they would be hyping MWP up…

  • LakeShow

I think every team and player should be realistic, but at the same time your goal is the chip. To not act like your going to get it is more damaging than not.

DEMAR WILL BE A STARTING ALL-STAR NEXT YEAR

  • shutup

Like I said saw him a handful of times he spent well over $10,000 each time and got shitfaced each time as recently as two weeks ago, dude was tore up.

  • shutup

You can only snitch on those your loyal too.

  • justin05

Right on Brock. Nash and Howard will be unlike any duo we have seen lately. Almost as good as Stockton and Malone if Nash was in his prime. It’s like if the Suns had Kobe AND Gasol w/ a nash and amare combo…oh wait.. Stoudemire is nowhere near as good as Howard on the defense end so it’s not even the same. NBA fans are about to find out what’s good in la la land. #17 thank you

This might be the worst comment of the year. Congrats.

  • pposse

kobe doesn’t have his uncle, Derrick Fisher on the squad nor does he have the godfather of the matrix on his squad…this lakers team is destined to fail!

  • danpowers

dont see it that way but got your point. was jus kiddin anyway

  • shutup

I don’t click links from weirdos that how you get caught up. But let me know what streets you be in and I’ll send someone to check on that fiddy your always talking about.

Yeah… whatever Metta. Lakers won’t beat the Clips this year. I really believe that. LAL has no bench… Nash and KB are getting old… Howard is injured (or at LEAST recovering from injury. He is not 100%)… Metta (more of a headcase than Bynum)… puhleeze. I can’t wait for the season to start. Also… and this one’s gonna raise a few eyebrows but here we go.. Bynum is better than Howard. Maybe not now.. now he’s equal… he is better overall (bothg ends)… and is only going to get better. He is just a kid, mentally. I know DH is only a bit older, but look at Bynum… look at his face and attitude during games. I really believe Bynum has another level… he could be awesome and dominate the way a 90′s centre would.. in the days of the smaller centres.. and stretch 4′s. Just watching Bynum now on NBA tv and man… I would take him over DH anyday..
But what do I know, I would take Rondo over LBJ as a winner. ( and don’t be doing that whole ‘they’re different positions you can’t compare BS… I’m talking about if I was an expansion team and I wanted to win)

  • http://www.facebook.com/qcollingwood Interdico Scriptor

SLAM. Block this guy. There’s no place for this.

  • FuTrue

I agree. Nash will get eaten alive by Westbrook. Sefolosha is a great athletic defender, who will be guarding an aging Bryant. And idk if it was just me, but MWP could not guard KD to save his life last year. Ibaka will bully Gasol. And from what I remember, Perkins always gave Dwight problems back in the Celtics vs. Magic days.

  • shutup

I never said he wasn’t in shape, but getting shitfaced at the basest of levels means a lot of empty calories so it contradicts the training hard theory, also alcohol consumption would retard the recovery process needed after said strenuous workout, plus it would be really unhealthy to drain the body and then fill it up with mass amounts of Patron; but thank you for your theories however lacking they might be.

  • shockexchange

Before you bite off more than you can chew, go to iBooks and type in “Shock Exchange.” After you read it, it will make you question everything you thought you knew about pro, college and grassroots basketball.

  • Impala Tee

    “Boom”

  • bigA

Did you see Pau in the Olympics? He is the bully.

  • starks260

Ron Ron’s talking big ..but really peeps did u expect anything less. The additions LAL have made will make them more a threat but Spurs / OKC possibly Mavs will have a lil something to say ….

But snitching is low he’s an adult who spends his dough like the next man .Save cussinghim on the court not for relaxing like regular folk albeit expensive

  • shockexchange

True dat. Pau made Shannon Brown disappear from L.A. http://clicky.me/5KzO … pure gangsta.

  • Caboose

You know the New York Shock Exchange is a men’s roller derby league right?

  • Caboose

Stock market may be rigged but it’s so easy to make money off of it if you do a little research

  • shockexchange

Actually the Shock Exchange is a travel basketball team that also teaches kids how to pick stocks. They run their own fund. We have been around since ’05. The roller derby team got started in ’07 and by “happenstance” chose the “New York Shock Exchange” and a logo with a man in suit and tie, on skates – similar to ours. In effect, my organization has been “trolled” since ’07.

  • shutup

I am not contending that there isn’t a book called “Shock Exchange” I am contending that the writer of the book isn’t you and if it is you gotta sit your old ass down, cause you aint given nobody fiddy , the only fiddy you gonna see is on your next birthday cake. smh. I went to school in Fort Greene, and played ball at Pratt when my boy was the starting pg there, like i said if you up to giving someone fiddy, I’ll send my lil man to check you and see what you got, he can record the whole thing and we can post that shit so the whole world can see your lame ass get cut up, like the b!tch you are.

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange just had a “Eureka!” moment.

  • Lugo

Playing back up at a tiny art/architecture school gives you zero basketball cred. Unlike yourself I’m actually from Fort Greene, and pretty much lived all over Bk until I left for UCONN. I don’t know about Shock Exchange and all that book ish but you definitely can’t clown cats when you talking about ballin’ at Pratt lmfaooooooooooooooooo.

  • Max

    So do I Metta .
