Raja Bell Will Not Attend Jazz Training Camp

The Jazz have yet to resolve a buyout with Raja Bell, but one thing’s for certain: Bell’s time in Utah is over. The Jazz released a strong statement on Friday, saying that Bell will not be in training camp next week: ” Utah Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey issued the following statement today regarding guard Raja Bell: ‘I have spoken with Raja and his representative, Herb Rudoy, and we have mutually agreed that although Raja remains under contract, it is in the best interest of all parties that he not re-join the team next week when the Jazz begins training camp. We will now move forward focusing on Jazz basketball and our preparation for the upcoming season. We will have no further comment on this matter.’”

I think it’s a shame that the two sides couldn’t get along. Jazz should have traded him long ago if things were so bad. Corbin chose to snub Raja by not playing him in the playoffs and that just made things worse.

    Moving foward.

@jazzfan: imo the jazz is making an example of raja by not giving him his freedom due to raja’s comments when dwill was pushed out of Utah.
Raja to my knowledge was one of the very few if not the only one of the Utah Jazz players who publicly supported dwill for being a good leader after dwill was the catalyst for the organizations problems. Say what you will… Imo the Jazz front office is telling everyone in the league that if you cross them when you’re under contract they will screw you just like they did by sending dwill out w/out any of his imput or knowledge.
Keep in mind too that the Jazz organization released Dfish when his daughter needed care in LA. The Jazz front office imo has a respectable track record and I am not a Jazz fan. I would love to be a wall flower and hear the raja conversations.
If raja does not show up do you see him as a quiter?

They are basically banning Bell from training camp. They don’t want him, he doesn’t want them either, but I am pretty sure if they told him to report he would. He has said as much in interviews. I’ve heard so many different rumors and stories about what was going on that I don’t know what is true. I think Bell gets bashed unfairly at times and I personally find some of the attacks Jazz fans make on him to be over the top. Bell never seemed like the type of player to create such a fuss but I could be wrong. It’s possible he was very unhappy with the new coach after Coach Sloan quit and I don’t think he liked the way the offense and defense were being run. I noticed that even when he did play, they ignored him on offense and this was after his shot was falling and his shooting percentages were high.

Larry Miller was very kind to release DFish. It benefitted the Jazz in that it gave them more cap space. There are those that say DFish wanted out. Although he didn’t seem to complain, I don’t think he was happy being the #2 point guard on the team. He said that his daughter’s doctors were on the east coast and that he needed to go there (that’s where she had surgery). But he went right back to the Lakers which made many suspect his motives. Not that anyone would suspect that he didn’t want his daughter healthy, but some think he took advantage of the situation to get out of his contract.

Interesting to read your perspective. The league is better when Utah matters.
