Stephen Curry Confident About Signing Extension With the Warriors

The Golden State Warriors want to first see how Stephen Curry’s oft-injured ankles hold up during training camp and the preseason, but Curry and his agent think a deal will get signed by the end of October. Per CSN Bay Area: ‘I’m very optimistic about getting a deal done,’ said Lance Young, Curry’s representative. ‘I think we can get something done by the 31st (Oct. 31, the deadline for Curry to sign a deal).’ Curry’s troublesome ankle forced him to miss 40 of 66 games a season ago, and he hasn’t played competitively since March. Curry, who has been rehabbing most of the summer, received full medical clearance on Thursday, and he’s now playing five-on-five for the first time since the injury. ‘They’ve had some talks,’ said Curry. ‘But obviously they (Warriors) want to protect themselves and want to see during training camp. And I have no problem with that.’ The Warriors play their eighth and final game of the preseason on Oct. 23, against the Phoenix Suns, at Oracle Arena. Curry said the ankle has responded well all summer and did the same after upping his workload late in the week. The Warriors and Curry have until Oct. 31 to reach an agreement on an extension. If they don’t, Curry will become a restricted free agent at the end of the season. But Curry is talking like it won’t come to that. ‘Definitely,’ he said when asked if he’d like to get something done. ‘It’s not like I don’t want to be here. That would be a great opportunity, to be locked up another four years and make it happen before the season so I could personally feel good about it and my future. ‘But I’ve just got to let the process unfold.’”

they should put a clause in any contract they sign him to, with a decrease in pay for every rolled ankle. get that $#it fixed curry

  • Billy Hoyle

They won’t resign him or they’ll trade him then he’ll go off to be a better somewhere else like all former warriors players.

dont hold ur breath, kid. You’re gonna have to show u can play a FULL healthy season for them to offer a long extension worth lotsa money. Oct 31st is too soon to prove that..

I think the condensed schedule of the lockout caused the persistent ankle issues last year. Other than that dude has been healthy

  • Vince

If he proves that he can play a full 82 games consistently then he’ll get an extension, easy as that, but the Warriors are going to have to make a gamble when it comes to Oct 31, invest or take a risk in letting him walk.
