Tim Hardaway Thinks Derrick Rose Should Sit Out the Entire Season

Tim Hardaway has been down the same path that Derrick Rose is walking, knee injury-wise. And the former NBA point guard would advise Rose to miss the whole year, in order to fully recover from knee surgery. Per ESPN: “Chicago native and former NBA All-Star Tim Hardaway keeps hearing a potential March return for Derrick Rose, whose recovery from left ACL surgery reminds Hardaway of his own journey back from that injury, and that personal experience is why his target date for the Bulls point guard is farther off than most. Hardaway thinks Rose should sit out the entire 2012-13 season. ‘I’d just rather have him take his time, so he can be 100 percent, because he’s like me, running and jumping,’ Hardaway said. Hardaway pointed out that his injury was similar to Rose’s, a freak, non-contact injury on a routine play. Hardaway was going up for a layup on March 3, 1993 against the Los Angeles Lakers when he tore his left ACL, and he missed the entire next season. Rose jump-stopped to shoot his trademark floater in the fourth quarter of Game 1 in the first round of last season’s playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers. Hardaway remembers the months after the incident, thinking over and over again, ‘Am I going to come back the way I want to come back?’ But he overcame any doubt and stayed the course, relying on faith, confidence, his family and new eating habits, and he was able to return in 1994-95 and didn’t have to deal with the ACL again — even after his career. Hardaway said one thing is certain about Rose’s recovery: It will make him a better shooter. ‘His jumpshot is going to come back a lot better than what it was,’ said Hardaway, who is now a community liaison and scout for the Miami Heat. ‘I’ll tell you that. His jumpers and his free throw percentage is going to be up. I’m telling you. That’s all you can do. You can’t do anything else, but shoot around and just shoot free throws.’”

I highly doubt he would even consider such a thing. I’m no Rose slurper like a lot of people on here but the guy has too much pride and heart to let his city down like that.

  • zogs19994

    I AGREE
DERRICK ROSE IS A GO-GO (never stop) KINDA GUY, HE WILL MOST LIKELY BE AN IJURY RISK THE REST OF HIS CAREER UNLESS HE LEARNS THAT RESTING IS THE BEST FOR HIS BODY.

an acl injury today is not the same as 20 years ago

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

If Derrick Rose wants a long career, he should listen to Hardaway’s advice. But I keep hearing he’ll be back in March. If anything, he’ll probably be back for the Playoffs…

So is it better today or worse?

  • Max

    Better ofcourse..

  • spit hot fiyah

better due to advancements in surgery

  • Drig

It’s down to the fans to realize that in the long run, him sitting out would help the Bulls more than him returning this season. I don’t care if the Bulls try to tank to get better draft picks. Bulls as they are constructed aren’t championship caliber unless a LOT of things break their way like Mavs ’11 anyways. No offence to Bulls fans.

  • allen3

I think somewhere another hardaway ( fellow tigers, Number1 wearer, 3times allstar before injury)is telling him the same things.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Derrick Rose should come back when the doctor tells him he’s 100%. The Doctor. Not Tim Hardaway.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/savagemuzicgroup T-Ray

True as far as them not being championship caliber aside from Rose’s untimely injury you can thank their front office for getting worse.

  • brian scalabrine

your right they only got the most dynamic pg in the league, the best up and coming coach, and the leagues best record 2years in a row. and thats with carlos “5 in vertical” boozer starting at pf

  • Slick Ric

I dont agree, acl tears shouldn’t be taken lightly but guys like shumpert and Baron Davis injuries look to be even more serious and they might wanna consider missing the whole season.

  • Drig

Remove the dynamic PG. Add in an injured 2nd star ( Deng ), a worse supporting cast, a more relaxed schedule to the season AND the problem of all their contenders arguably improving ( LAL, MIA, OKC, BOS and if you wanna add more, BN, LAC and probably NYK )…….It’s gonna be tough. Tell me one good reason why the Bulls are gonna be a top 4 team in the East with Miami, Sixers, Boston, Brooklyn and New York improving? And if this Bulls team doesn’t have HCA, it’s gonna have a hard time getting deep into the playoffs man. Esp. with Rose being rusty.

  • Drig

Boozer has been a dud in Chicago. IMO, I’d try to trade him along for few assets which can develop this season if the chance arises. The team as constructed can’t beat Miami/OKC or Lakers without a 2nd star player.

  • Hot stylz

I agree with Tim. Rose plays too hard to rush back. Tank the year, get a good draft pick and get back 110% next season

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/savagemuzicgroup T-Ray

Oh without a doubt they are no match for those teams. I think they have fallen in love with their defense first mentality that they haven’t properly addressed their offensive struggles. I mean Rose and occasionally Deng are the only players who can really create their own shot. I don’t think anyone is going to take on that huge contract of Boozer so my guess is if they don’t want him they will amnesty him and be done with it so they can have that money to go after other players.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

If he’s ready, he should come back but not push himself too much. Especially if they have the same roster they have now. Their bench is horrible compared to the bench they had the past 2 seasons. There should be a limit on his minutes. Thibs should keep a close eye on him knowing that he plays 100% full throttle all the time.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Baron messed up more than his ACL.

  • LakeShow

Who was that, Tim Hardaway with the down vote lol?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

there are people who really don’t like any of my comments apparently. there were a couple yesterday that were just a fact and that had only downvotes lol

  • roscoe

Bdiddy’s back is wrecked thanks to his wreckless style. B-diddy was fire before he got hurt.

  • roscoe

bulls problem = boozer fades in the playoff

  • roscoe

Clearly sports medicine has advanced to such a high level in sports that I believe Drose along with his undeniable heart/drive will overcome this injury & stay healthy. He is one of the most dedicated NBA stars in the game which is important with an injury like this.
    Drose = Not soft.

  • pposse

D Rose will rise! all he has to do is read this website for motivation since 90% of yall are rose haters!

  • LakeShow

    lmao. You are correct..

  • Tim Hardaway

Another thing to watch out for DRose..ACL tears can cause you to become a homophobe. And that ‘aint no fun.

  • Redd

Pretty sure no one is a “hater” they just aren’t fans or have opinions against D. Rose. There’s nothing wrong with it, not everyone agrees.

  • Redd

Skip this season, let us get a high draft pick!

  • pposse

when the general consensus about the 2011 MVP is that he is the 7th best baller in the league is about the time that you can start to refer it as hate..

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

Shout out to derrick rose, man that ni99as nice

  • 1982

Tim Hardaway also never had the vertical explosiveness, and even when he was UTEPing, he was underneath the rim. DRose isn’t on the same comeback trajectory.

  • danpowers

not only thanks to his wreckless style. playing so many games and minutes with overweight just take(took) their toll on his body. who knows how great his carreer couldve been if he wouldve watched his weight and conditioning a bit more

  • moochie

    but the human body is…

  • http://twitter.com/AjpDos Allen Powell

If i was a bulls fan i would say stay home, let’s tank and get better.

  • Unknown nigga

The acl injury is the same,,, the “treatment” & medical staff’s are different, information on the injury is different.

  • Unknown nigga

Boy, tim hardaway is no where NEAR SOFT & being injured didn’t have a got damn thing to do with being soft, FOOL! come back early if you want & regret it for the rest of your life… I trust hardaway’s judgment bc he has a son in the game, he’s played the game at a high level, I think rose should not rush himself back bc the organization may not have his best interests at heart & you THIRSTY AZ FANS DEFINITELY DON’T… he’s due at least 2 more big contracts in his career, be careful or they’ll be 2 birds in the bush

  • PnoyVibe

I’d say rest 1 month after the full recovery

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

the Bulls signed Roe to be the face of the franchise for the next 5 years…Im pretty sure his best interests and the franchise’s both involve him staying healthy

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

    very unrealistic

  • roscoe

@unknown nigga: try sonnin someone other than Roscoe. Timmy is not soft nor was it stated. drose = not soft.

  • roscoe

hard to argue with your solid logic.

  • roscoe

would have been a great except he ate

  • Redd

yeah but MVP doesn’t entitled you to being the greatest ASAP. Rose is getting there, he needs to keep pushing. But it really isn’t hate, I wish everyone liked Rose but it’s unrealistic.

  • Redd

Not really, a top 10 isn’t out of the question. Mix that with our Charlotte Pick, the aim is to get Jabari hopefully.

  • hyperactive
  • pposse

who said greatest? 7th and greatest are two different things…stop defending these bums when y0u r one year removed from MVP anything less than 5 or better IS hate

  • pposse

i guess everyone is mistaking your arrogance for “ignorance” nbk haha sorry can’t help myself, but after reading 155 comments from your battle with the R man i cant help myself

  • Redd

I’m speaking generally. But yeah, he’s top 5 when healthy I believe. At the moment? No, that’s hard to say. Harder to say when his shot isn’t better than Westbrooks(whom I dislike a lot).

  • ccc

    just retire, rose sucks
