Toronto Raptors Sign Jamaal Magloire to Non-Guaranteed Contract

The Toronto Raptors have extended a non-guaranteed training camp invite to center Jamaal Magloire. Toronto is already stacked at the center position, but they could bring on Magloire—who has 12 years of NBA experience under his belt and played with the Raptors during the ’11-’12 season—to lead and teach some of Toronto’s younger big men. Via NBCSports.com: “The Raptors also have Andrea Bargnani, Jonas Valanciunas, Amir Johnson, Ed Davis, Aaron Gray and Quincy Acy in the frontcourt. But the Raptors think Jamaal Magloire might be a good veteran presence in the locker room, an extra coach for the young big men. So they have extended him a non-guaranteed contract with the chance to get the last open roster spot on the team, according to Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun. Magloire played for the Raptors last season but was on the end of the bench, getting in just 34 games, and when he did play he wasn’t very effective—he shot 37 percent and had a PER of 2.7. Which is a bench warmer in the D-League kind of number. He’s not the guy you usually bring back, he’s the guy gone to make way for young players with potential.”

Was he all star back in 2000′s?

and if you watched the game, he was trying really hard, too hard to be all star mvp.

“Toronto is already stacked at the center position”?!? Word? They have an unproven rookie in Jonas V, a 7 foot shooting guard in Andrea, and an undersized Amir. In what alternate basketball universe would this be considered “stacked”???

Meh. Well at least I hope he can teach Jonas Valanciunas a thing or 2 before retiring.

Andrea Bargnani is a power forward. They stopped the center project last year, which resulted in some actually good basketball from him before he got hurt.

    From 2004 All-Star to a Non-Guaranteed Contract. WOW!!!

In the sad little basketball universe of the Toronto Raptors. Believe me, having some talent and a little depth at center – I mean, centre – is a gigantic leap forward for us. Memories:

Back when my cat could have been an eastern conference All-star if he played center.

I’d prefer Andre Drummond over Jamaal Magloire. Neither can make freethrows.
