Adam Morrison Could Retire if He Doesn’t Make the Blazers’ Roster

Adam Morrison says he’s ready to hang it up if the whole basketball thing doesn’t work out for him in Portland, and the 3rd overall pick from the 2006 NBA Draft thinks he’ll be at peace with his decision. Per CSNNW: “After being out of the league the last two years, Morrison, 28, said that if he didn’t make the Trail Blazers’ regular season roster, he has plans to end his professional playing career and start a new one. ‘I’m going to finish school and start coaching (If he didn’t make the Trail Blazers roster)… I did the Europe thing and it just wasn’t for me,’ Morrison said. ‘Not saying the (Europe) culture or anything like that, (or) the people, it just wasn’t for me. So, yeah, if it doesn’t work out, I’m willing to look myself in the mirror and say, ‘I gave it a honest shot’ and turn the page. Do something else.’ Coach Morrison has a nice ring to it. With Elliot Williams out for the year with a torn Achilles, Morrison has a legitimate shot to survive past training camp with the team’s lack of wing play. Head coach Terry Stotts says scoring is Morrison’s strength, but adds Morrison will have to show that he can be serviceable on the defensive end as well. [...] ‘It’s funny, people act like just because it didn’t work out, my life is just, horrible. You know what I mean?,’ Morrison said with a chuckle. ‘It’s not that bad. Ok, it didn’t go well, but it’s not like I’m destitute, and broke, and homeless. There’s a lot of people who have had worst things happen than not making it in a certain career. I’m a father, I enjoy other activities. Life’s alright.’”

There is not one team in the NBA that doesn’t hide a bad defender on defense, because he is a 12 ppg player on offense…. So I really don’t see any reason the Blazers passing on that opportunity. No risk, max return. Even Dan Dickau, though far from superb, did some good things in Portland (and slammed Dirk’s hand in the bus door :) … and I still don’t get why Richie Frahm never got a fair shot with the Sonics. I sincerely hope that Robert Sacre dosen’t catch the A-Mo curse with the Lakers, and follows Ronnie Turiaf’s trail…

Do the Trail Blazers still have Luke Babbitt? Morrison would have to battle Luke for a bench spot…
