Boston Celtics to Sign Leandro Barbosa

Leandro Barbosa, whose best days are well behind him, is headed to Beantown. Reports the Boston Globe: “Guard Leandro Barbosa has reached a one-year deal with the Celtics, a league source confirms. The 29-year-old Barbosa will figure into Boston’s backcourt mix in a reserve role. Barbosa averaged 11.1 points per game with Toronto and Indiana last season. Known as a scorer, he could find a role as Rajon Rondo’s backup, sharing time with Jason Terry and Courtney Lee. With Avery Bradley out until at least December, the Celtics seem to have a need for Barbosa, though he’s unlikely to play substantial minutes.”

    surprised nobody picked Barbosa sooner

  • Bravo

He gonna be a spark off the bench

Great pickup for the C’s, adding to an already strong bench, and covering up some of Rondo’s shooting problems.

Good pickup indeed. Defensive minded and at one pont a devestating 6th man. Only 29… good… he’s still got fuel in the tank. Go Barbosa!

  • The Mauve Avenger

    Yea that confused me too.

    UNDERATED, HIGH-ENERGY, SCORER

  • BRAVO

After seeing what he did for Toronto, Barbosa is pretty nasty @ those circus shots

  • T-Money

have you seen him play in the playoffs and in london? i’m surprised a team DID pick him

  • Max

Rondo, Bradley, Jet, Lee and now Barbosa.
    Damn..

This signing makes no sense for Boston. They’ve already got Courtney Lee, who’s a better defender, taller and more athletic. And just as good a 3pt shooter. And they’ve got Jason Terry who’s instant offense off the dribble and in spot-up situations. Where exactly does Barbossa fit into this scheme? He’s not definitively better than than either of those guys, or Avery Bradley or Rajon Rondo in one particular facet of the game.
I’m not ‘hating’ on the decision, I just feel like he would’ve been better off on other teams. Best of luck to him though.

Celtics still only have one true pg

    defensive minded?

he’s just 29. i bet boston isn’t satisfied with Lee’s shooting. He missed too many open shots in preseason. Barbosa can be 1 or 2. Lee is more a lock down alongside Bradley. Jet will be the main scorer and Boston can play small to counter the Heat

NOBODY PICCKED UP KENYON MARTIN? WHADAFUK!

  • K_HOLIDAY

If Miami had any money left over, I’d say they should go after him! He just brings a toughness to every team he’s on and Miami will need that as the defending champs! Can’t underestimate a guy like K-Mart!

  • MUBWAR

uh bro barbosa has no idea how to spell defense let alone integrated in his game.

  • nick

    Brazilian blur!!!! Kill it!!!!

  • Sérgio

I agree with you, but none of those guys can play PG, and Barbosa will fill that hole for them.

    agreed

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

supersede that he wasn’t on a team already

  • Mariano

He’s asking for too much money

  • errday

When said true PG plays 40+ minutes a night, you don’t really need another one.
