Carlos Boozer Thinks His Critics are Misguided

Chicago Bulls fans are not especially fond of Carlos Boozer, who despite a massive contract, has largely underwhelmed in the Windy City. Boozer says that those who criticize him are looking at things from the wrong point of view (read: it’s not his fault), and he knows that only a championship can ever get people off his back. Per the Chicago Sun-Times: “Right up there,’ Boozer said. ‘You put [a championship banner] up there … the biggest thing is wins, that’s what it all comes down to. Honestly. It comes down to wins and losses, everything else is water under the bridge. We win? Man, if we win, we’re going to party for a long time.’ [...] Not explosive enough, not defensive enough, not a finisher. Definitely not the player he was in Utah when the Bulls signed him as the consolation prize for missing out on LeBron James three summers ago. In three of his six seasons with the Jazz, Boozer averaged at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. In his first year with the Bulls, his numbers were 17.5 and 9.6, followed by last season’s 15 points and 8.5 rebounds. Add in that Boozer will be the 24th highest-paid player in the Association at $15 million, and is owed $15.3 million next season and $16.8 million in the 2014-15, and it’s no wonder that the chant of ‘Boooooooze’ from the hometown fans has far too often turned to boos. ‘People look at it from the wrong perspective,’ Boozer said. ‘This isn’t Utah, and this isn’t just a team with me and [former Jazz point guard] Deron Williams on it. We’re playing with five scorers here, so your touches aren’t going to be the same, your looks aren’t going to be the same. It’s a different system. All the people should worry about is if we win. Criticize me if we lose, but if we win, just praise us.’ [...] Boozer reported for training camp in the best shape he has been in since the Bulls signed him, spending a good part of his summer bike riding. His reality is that fans don’t care what kind of shape he’s in or what his goals are. Those rafters stay dusty? He knows where the majority of the finger-pointing will be directed. ‘I haven’t won a championship in the NBA, but winning — winning cures all, man,’ Boozer added. ‘Cures it all.’”

Dwill just made him better.. Drose is not that type of player yet.

  • Fat Lever

Hahahaha, this guy just can’t do anything right. What I took from this is that he thinks that in Utah it was him and Deron, no one else capable of scoring. Not exactly true, they had Memo, Kirielenko when he was balling out.

  • spit hot fiyah

he’s right about one thing, if they win a chip, the sour fans will forget all the underacheiving

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

He should assert himself in the offense with D-Rose being out. The offense should run through him. When Rose returns, the Bulls should have 3 legit offensive options with Rose, Booz and Deng.

  • M Cho

It’s training camp time, so that means Booz is about due to have another freak accident and injury. I’m thinking this time he slips on a bathmat and breaks a toe.

  • TR

Boozer’s points are valid. I don’t think he’s skills have diminished really, just a different system where he’s not the main feature or second even

  • keyon dooling

Bulls will never make it past Miami in the next 4 years. Ha!

  • ctk

who better than him thats not suppose to be?…he always been n the 7-12range as the best pf n the league ..he was never elite not even n Utah …i dont see what the problem is …he a PnP big who can roll from time to time …rebound his area…dont have enuff height/length for the elites

  • Caboose

In Utah, Boozer had the KLove effect: numbers coming from lack of them, not actual talent.

  • ThaWindy

Boozer will always suck! Ring or no ring. And his peers knows that he sucks. Nobody is worried about him on either end of the floor. No one is saying,”damn i gotta go against boozer tonite.” More like,”hell yea Booooooz tonite!” I gave the man too many chances. Him and Deng both. You have to be clutch and want to take charge in those moments. And they both blow like the wind when it six below!!

DWill also made him better at making excuses for his terrible play.

they said last year that he was in the best shape of his life and that he had embraced defense….but hey…maybe it was the becasue of the lockout season and he will prove all of his critics wrong…God I hope so

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

I wouldnt say that….who knows maybe DROSE comes back stronger…and with a vengance!

  • Da Truuuuff

Misguided?? Bro, you on the books for 45 mil and you dont bring it every night!! Asik was putting more work than him last year. The bad part is that if he went hard he would be one of the best power forwards in the league. He is not even in that conversation as we speak. We should have seen this coming when he did the blind owner of the Cavs dirty back in the day, haha. He is now robbing the Bulls blind, lol

  • Caboose

He’s in the 10-12 range of best power forwards. Which is not where his salary places him.

  • roscoe

CHI team is not to be taken lightly & to say MIA will roll d’nxt 4 yrs is short-sighted.

  • ctk

    exactly …i said 7-12 range

  • Redd

This dude knows the amnesty is coming and after he gets his money he won’t get a big offer again. Heck he may become the best journeyman in the NBA. But I don’t see why he would mind getting paid quick and moving on. But I hope he leaves, Taj Gibson is better.

  • Junior Taylor

The Bulls need to put out a hit on Boozer, literally. Where is the Outfit when you need them?

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

You’re out of your mind if you’re saying that Kevin Love has no talent.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

If Rose comes back not this season but next season at 100%, the Bulls will be right behind Miami again in the East. At some point, Wade will begin to decline making Miami beatable.

  • Caboose

I meant that Kevin Love does not change a game as much as his numbers show. The antithesis of the Kevin Love effect is the Tony Parker effect. Kevin Love effected members include: Al Jefferson, Kevin Martin, Andrea Bargnani, Blake Griffin, and Tyreke Evans. Tony Parker effected members include: Kevin Garnett, Tony Allen, Chauncey Billups, Ricky Rubio, and Omer Asik.

    booozer, man.. step it up

  • LeroyShonuff

Ummmm… remove Jefferson from that list. He did lead Utah to the playoffs with absolutely horrendous guard play ta times. But I agree with the theory. Expect Tony Parker plays in a well oiled machine would run without him. Tony would not make the wizards, raptors or bobcats better or even the nets from last yr. I would actually replace Parker with Josh Smith or Iggy

  • danpowers

the bulls actually used to be deeper than miami. to me they wouldve been the no 1 team to win it all but without rose that was not possible. did i get it wrong or did the team lose quality during the offseason? there chances of winning it all worsened, not only because okc, lak and miami improved

  • ctk

    dont forget MontaEllis

  • danpowers

sure but i think this year will be an empty run for chicago. it will be more interestng to see them in 2013/2014. if rose returns at old strenght i expect them to draw even with or surpass miami.

  • Caboose

if you look at the Spurs’ offensive efficiency with and without Parker, you could argue that he’s the one who makes it a well oiled machine. I also thought Iggy, not sure I agree with Josh.

  • charliewinning

Behind Miami. At full strength they couldn’t beat the Heat with that roster and I don’t see that changing unless the Bulls make major changes, starting with Popcorn Muscles.

  • roscoe

@danpowers: you’re discounting experience & coaching. additionally a healthy or 90%+ drose ready to prove something is a very dangerous team. I keep in the equation that the eastern conference is stronger, imo, which makes the playoff run to the finals in the eastern conference that much more difficult. It is plausible if MIA has to play BOS/IND/PHIL & then run into CHI they won’t make it through. That is one tough road no one wants… it will be interesting to see the jockeying for playoff position that goes on this year.

  • roscoe

agree with your point. the total health of MIA will be dropping just like all the teams… and any team that goes deep in the playoffs year after year eventually has to reload or gets clipped like a dirty pigeon.

  • roscoe

it is really too bad that drose got hurt, bc that man can straight up ball. considering dwade calling him “dumb” when considering signing up w/ CHI i will never doubt the motivation a man like drose has when ppl put him down and calling him “dumb.” I’d love to see drose rise above the MIA and beat their @ss’ in the playoffs & i am not a bulls fan.

  • Tavoris Sinclair

The Chicago fans who are underwhelmed should check with the Cavs & Jazz fans about how to cope with his lack of production.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

In the first game during the regular season it was very tight. D-Rose missed free throws. LeBron missed free throws. Miami won. But it was a close game and D-Rose looked like a different player compared to the ECF the season before where Miami beat them 4-1. I think if Rose had stayed healthy, they would’ve met up again in the Conference Finals and it would have been a better series. Their bench now is better offensively but much worse defensively.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

    Wade called him dumb?

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Kevin Love’s numbers haven’t changed games because of the lack of talent around him. If he and Boozer switched places, he’d be the 2nd best player on that team and they’d be a better team than they are now with Boozer. You can’t look at a record and say that the best player on a losing team doesn’t change games when he is playing with a bunch of below average players.

  • Mitya

I just watched 1st quarter of bulls vs grizzlies, and I say it’s Boozer who’s misguided

  • danpowers

true the bulls have got a coach as good as any other coach out there and grew, also by the experience to go down against the heat 2 years ago. the thing is just, the head and their coach also gained alot of experience and james plays without all this pressure now. i think this equals the bulls experience ande their hunger. but true, the bulls are still a team to count on as soon as rose is back

  • danpowers

lets just hope so. i dont say that because of any hard feelings against the heat. they may win every second championship or so i wouldnt care. it just bores me to see one franchise winning it all every year like the lakers three peat or the two bulls three peats back then. i also had to struggle staying awake watching the spurs in the finals 4 fuckin times from 99 to 07 lol

  • Slick Ric

You’re not using logic, he in a different offense than he was in Utah which allowed more opportunities at the basket. He was basically the only guy in the paint in Utah because okur spaced the floor and teams were more concerned with deron playmaking and shooting. With the bulls, teams number one concern has been keeping Rose out the paint so they clog it up, not to mention, teams don’t see Noah as a scoring threat so boozer has had to do most of his damage from midrange which has made him slightly less effective. Boozer is correct however, his critics have been misguide because he hasn’t been bad but his main problems have been defensively.

  • roscoe

@byAnyMeansNecessary: Yep. Dwade inferred that drose was “dumb” bc of the way he speaks & made a point of it as to why he decided to resign w/ MIA and not CHI. i think that quote was burried under the infamous big three introduction show in MIA and no one ever talks about it, but I know drose has it sketched into his brain like a tat on his arm. i like dwade too and aint hating on him, but that statement is one for the books.

  • Caboose

I’m not trying to argue Booz is better than Love, obviously. Did you misunderstand what I meant by “Kevin Love effect”? It’s a name for players putting up inflated numbers because of the talent around them. And anyways, the Wolves had about the same win percentage with Love/without Rubio as without Love/without Rubio. So you’re wrong in two ways.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Wow, where did you read that? I don’t remember hearing about that. That’s crazy.

  • roscoe

I looked for it online, but couldn’t find it. I would not make that sh*t up either… I imagine one of the CHI newspapers has it. if i find it i will pass it along.

  • http://www.facebook.com/justcdro Ysidro Galaviz Jr.

    Carlos Boozer sucks. The end.

  • http://www.facebook.com/qcollingwood Interdico Scriptor

    Whoever pays Boozer is misguided

  • Cameron

Last I checked the Bulls only had 2-3 legit scorers depending on if you count Boozer as a scorer. How does he get 5? The other 2 would obviously be DRose and Deng.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

    Cool, thanks

  • Fat Lever

Also, to add what I said before. No Carlos, what was misguided was you thinking that spray paint shape-up wouldn’t get noticed by anyone.
