DeMarcus Cousins is Now a Three-Point Shooter

It’s no surprise that DeMarcus Cousins is transitioning into a leadership position in Sacramento, given that he’s one of the NBA’s best young players. What’s unexpected, is that Cousins plans to start firing away from three-point land, and that his coach is fine with it. Reports the Sac Bee: “Coach wants me to shoot the three ball, so I’m still trying to find my spots and where to do it,’ Cousins said of Keith Smart. ‘That’s what this time is for, trying to find it.’ Cousins isn’t looking to become a three-point specialist. He said when his trainer, Keith Williams, encouraged him to work on the three-point shot in years past, he resisted the idea. In his first two seasons Cousins has taken 32 three-point attempts, making five. ‘I’m still not even comfortable being out there, but coach wants me to do it, so I’m going to try to get it down,’ Cousins said. Smart laughed when asked if he wanted to see Cousins shooting three-pointers. ‘I didn’t want to see it, but he was going to shoot it anyways,’ Smart said. ‘You don’t find too many guys who love to rebound but can also shoot from distance. He’s a unique guy.’ Smart said he told Cousins if he wanted to shoot from long distance he needed to work on those shots. If Cousins could become respectable from beyond the arc, it would create opportunities for him off the dribble and to drive past slower defenders. And it’s good Cousins doesn’t want to become a three-point specialist because that’s not what Smart wants, either.”

First Smart is emulating the Globetrotter’s offense from 70 years ago and now he’s giving Cousins free reign to shoot 3s?
    Keith ‘hardly’ Smart

    More like Eddie Curry lol

Knuckleheaded big men just love shooting 3′s.

This is interesting. Cousins said that’s what Smart wants him to do, not what he wants to do. Smart says he doesn’t want Cousins shooting 3′s, but will allow him to work on it.

Why do I feel Cousins is being set up for a future “disruption”?

if what Cousins is saying about Smart is true, Keith Smart should be fired by the end of the day.

idk if Smart is trying to create the next sheed wallace, but, imploring your young PF to shoot 3s and possibly spending more time at the perimeter isnt conducive to having a steady offensive system and rebounding.

See what you did Kevin Love!!!!

  • danpowers

I have to admit, the thought of Cousins with a three-point game is scary.

  • Kevin

Y’all niggas need to quit hating. Let that boy cook. I dont see it as a problem if he adds that facet to his game. Him taking 1 or 2 three point shots at game wont hurt. As long he’s spending majority of his time in the post and using his skills on the block, if he starts living out there then it’s an issue. We’ll see when the season start

If only there was a veteran post player who would come out of retirement to teach these young bucks how to play in the post and not jack up ill advised threes…

I don’t know, seems smart knows dmc is the man in sctown and wants to keep him happy, let him know they’re behind him as an orginization. On another note I think boogies gunna be top 20 probably around 18, I could see him being top ten by the end of the year, what do you think? He’s definitely gotta work on finishing more consistently, but he’s got all the tools physically. I think this is the year he makes the jump. I think he’s gunna end up being the best player from his draft class at the end of his career, and I think there’s a good chance that this year is when he really explodes. Hopefully getting left off of team usa and seeing a rookie get it over him makes him realize that attitude is a big part of having success at the nba level. I think he could put up some ridiculous numbers if he brings it every night.

  • retloc

Sheed to the rescue haha show them how to play with heart. I still don’t think boogies gunna shoot more than 40 threes all year. Although, that’s still about 40 too many. He needs to put that body on people wear them down, only shooting he needs to worry about is free throws and a fifteen footer

  • VanCityBBall

Shaq is drowning in his own tears right now…

he could be top 10, as long as he works on the parts of his game that matter — And Smart may know Demarcus is the most talented player on the team, but he should also know that Demarcus is 19 years old and NEEDS guidance. Good guidance at that.

  • clydesays

Is he really the guy you want shooting 3′s? Did he watch some old Kings/Webber footage?
