Deron Williams Says He Was Forgotten About Last Season

Due to his own sub-standard play and the woeful season underwent by the New Jersey Nets last season, Deron Williams thinks people forgot about him. He’s driven to reclaim his place in the game this year. Per the NY Daily News: “Deron Williams thinks he has been forgotten. The Nets’ star was voted best point guard in the NBA by the league’s GMs two years ago when he was expected to lead the Jazz to the playoffs. After spending the past season and a half with the Nets, Williams did not even get a vote in a preseason poll of general managers released by the league on Monday. ‘It’s easy to forget about people when they’re on losing teams that aren’t really relevant and aren’t on TV,’ Williams said. ‘I didn’t have a great year statistically, so that will hurt, too.’ He said the slight does not particularly bother him. ‘I just want to win. I don’t care where I’m ranked among point guards,’ Williams said. ‘I’m not here to do any point guard battles this year. There’s no 1-on-1 tournaments for point guards. I just want to win.’ It will be, however, one of the many things driving him this season. ‘Everything motivates me,’ Williams said.”

No, he just played badly and failed to elevate the play of his teammates.

He was. He didn’t have a great season but he’s had some pretty horrible teammates since he’s been in New Jersey/Brooklyn. He’ll return to normal form this season with good teammates around him. Hard to elevate the play of your teammates when most of them are garbage.

Sounds like D willy is focused this year.

That is absurd. Deron had a fantastic year statistically with avergaes of 21+ and 8.5+… not surpassing the 10 assist/g mark was in no way his fault but the faults of his inept teammates. Deron was right up there in offensive production incluidng a 57 point outburst. Deron should not be worried, as I am sure he is not, because he is still hands down a top 3 point guard.

Chin up, DWill. It doesn’t matter how good you are…being forgotten is an ‘occupational hazard’ when you play for the Nets.

  • roscoe

that’s fair… its interesting how none of the trolls pile on to dwill bc he is to some degree irrelevant, but the trolls will tear-down other nba-ers that are relevant. imo, dwill is not a championship team leader, but maybe that will change. What happens if the nets suck this year, does dwill accept d’criticism or does he point the finger?

Its not just that u were on a losing team Deron. U had a bad season by ur standards, and u didnt improve ur team at ALL, in a weak eastern conference. Compared to say a Steve Nash the past 2 years, leading his team to .500 records in the tough western Conference and on the cusp of the playoffs on a team that was similarily as bad as urs, or a Chris Paul (on the Hornets his last year) that actually succeeded in taking a horrible roster to teh playoffs, and giving the Lakers a run for their money, you simply havent added up in being a great PG that can make the most of any situation, regardless of how bad the team. This year, you’ll be back in the spotlight and i expect you to have a great season, and to once again be up there with Paul as the best PG’s, but thats cuz u have a good team this time around.

i second this. he mostly just mopped about the quality of his teammates he was going out on the floor with

Steve Nash had worse teammates and won more games

  • spit hot fiyah

At least he understands why he was forgotten

he averaged 20 and 9 on the Nets. That is not badly. He was still top 5 among all PGs in PPG, APG, & PER. SO, uhhhhhh….no he didn’t play badly.

Steve Nash did not have worse teammates. That’s a load of bullsh*t

  • LakeShow

Ehh.. Agree they weren’t worse, but did u see PHX roster last year? Not a whole lot better.

Gortat would have been the 2nd best player on the Nets last season (Lopez was hurt, and he was better than Gerald Wallace)
Basically the Nets had guys who only shoot. and shoot a lot. aside from Wallace & Humphries.
The Suns were balanced. They had structure. They were far and away a much better team than New Jersey aside from the PG situation. It really isn’t close.

gerald wallace is bettter than gortat kris humphries is better than everone on the suns not named gortat or nash…marshon brooksis better than everyone on the suns not named gortat or nash….the nets had a better squad
