NEW YORK, Oct. 17, 2012 – Shawn “JAY Z” Carter debuted the new Brooklyn Nets jersey Friday, Sept. 28, during the first of his eight sold-out concerts at the brand-new Barclays Center. To celebrate the Nets’ new identity and the opening of their new home in Brooklyn, ten limited-edition “Carter 4” Nets jerseys, autographed by JAY Z, will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the Shawn Carter Foundation.

The auction will go live on Auctions.NBA.com beginning Wednesday, Oct. 17 for a period of two weeks ending Wednesday, Oct. 31. All of the jerseys have been authenticated by MeiGray Group, the NBA’s official authentication partner, and will be registered into the NBA and MeiGray Group Authentication Program.

The black and white jersey, developed by NBA oncourt apparel partner adidas, features ‘Brooklyn’ across the front and a herringbone tape running vertically along the sides, matching the Nets’ herringbone-designed court at Barclays Center. In fusing adidas’ on-court innovations with premium men’s fashion, the classic jersey reinforces Brooklyn’s strong and confident identity and the borough’s hometown pride.

During the sold-out Brooklyn shows, JAY Z announced “I believe everybody in the world is born with genius level talent. Apply yourself to whatever you’re genius at and you can do anything in the world.” His mission through the Shawn Carter Foundation is to help individuals facing socio-economic hardships further their education at institutions of higher learning. Since 2003, the Foundation has distributed more than $1.4M in scholarship awards to help needy scholars across the nation and all of the proceeds from this auction will support the advancement of the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.
