Kobe Bryant Says Metta World Peace in the Best Shape Since His Indiana Days

Following a sub-par season last year, Metta World Peace showed up in terrific shape for training camp this time around. And according to those who work closest with him, Metta hasn’t been this physically imposing since he was terrorizing the League as an Indiana Pacer. Per the LA Times: “He’s determined, he’s hungry and he’s in tremendous shape. He can run all day and at high speeds with tremendous quickness,’ Kobe Bryant said. ‘I haven’t seen him in this great a shape since Indiana.’ World Peace came to camp last season at 274 pounds and didn’t find his rhythm until late. Despite a month of hard partying in July — ‘I gotta have fun then because I don’t drink during the season,’ he said — he reported this season at 255. He said Thursday he had touched 249, his best weight since he was an All-Star and NBA defensive player of the year with the Pacers in 2004. He credited Tim DiFrancesco, the Lakers’ strength and conditioning coach, for guiding him toward taking better care of his body. As part of the three-step mind-body program World Peace devised to help himself and set an example for others, he led health walks in New York, Nashville and Los Angeles this summer. He has found a state of mind that can only be described as one of peace. [...] His enhanced fitness allows him to be more active and effective on the court. ‘Right now I get to the basket any time I want. I don’t have to depend on somebody to give me a shot. I don’t have to depend on somebody else to create things for me,’ he said. ‘That’s a great feeling, to be back at that All-Star weight and I’m only 32. I’ve been around a while but I’m only 32, so I’ve still got a chance to do a lot of things.’”

I hope this is true, it would be pretty cool. Not sure why he’s talking about not needing to depend on anyone to get him a shot, with the four other guys he’ll be starting with I don’t care if he’s in the best shape of his life, a Metta World Pece iso at any point in the game will be considered an offensive failure. Get really good at hitting the corner three and use your new found quickness to shut down the opposing teams best wing.

    274??!!!!!
    HOLY SHIT!!!!!
DWIGHT ONLY WEIGHS LIKE 265, MWP IS A BEAST, DAMNNNNNN

  • bike

What he means is that at 32, he still has at least one more epic, violent meltdown in him.

  • Junior Taylor

I hope Laker fans don’t think that this all of a sudden means that he can guard KD because they are wrong.

  • spit hot fiyah

    shout out to his psychyatrist

  • danpowers

nobody can shut kd down. just let him work hard for his shots. and this is what mwp will be able to do

  • barb

Artest he will always be. Can’t bring myself to call him Metta World Peace.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

KD or LeBron. He won’t be able to guard either.

  • LakeShow

Reports everyday about how awesome MWP is looking…
Just as I thought. Atta boy Ronnie. Time to lock up KD, and Bron :D

lol. ur a funny guy..well see..

  • jc

He don’t need to shot them down he just need to make it harder and slow them down and he have proved that he can do that

  • LakeShow

Like 100% of the rest of the L.

  • dee

This is a great sign for Laker nation…now all they have to do is stop asking MWP questions. He’s a walking soundbite that makes very little sence. He’s Rodman 5.0 with a twist of Barkley

  • dee

Not too many players can guard Durant but they can and will be alittle more physical with him. Anyone watch the Finals? OKC better hope their draft pick Perry Jones III is as good as some advertised. OKC are no longer under the radar, teams will be gunning for them, trying to expose their weakness. Young but lack debt.

  • Bigbeats23

Imagine taking a ‘bow to the head from Ron now i.e. JHarden

  • Sergio

Guide then to the middle where they will meet Dwight. That’s all he has to do.

  • RKJ92

He will never lock up either even in his prime bro cmon your a better poster then that lmaoo! Durants too lengthy and skilled, and LeBron is arguably stronger and faster then Ron!

  • robb

faster yes, but stronger? I don’t think so

  • mario chalmers

young but their experienced as a group. give them some CREDIT!

  • pposse

all reports are indicating that Ron Ron is still a top 50 ball player in the league. Couple that with Kobe, Dwight, Nash, and Pau who are all top 15 ball players in the league (maybe top 20) and there you have it folks one of the most illegal units to every be constructed.

  • daBIZ

on paper. just a starting unit.

  • PnoyVibe

I’m hyped, can’t wait for this season to begin!

  • gotti got got

    depth?

  • dee

Thanks for all the spell checks. I’ll give OKC lots of credit. They almost ran the table last year after running through a tough western conference. The got past the Lakers b/c the Lakers didn’t have a bench and couldn’t they take advantage of OKC when Durant sat. I really thought the Thunder was going to win it all before Lebron stepped his game up! The young Thunder ran those older teams off the court but couldn’t run the Heat off the court. No predeictions but it’ll be very interesting to see how they fair this season.

Sooo should Pistons fans be weary when he walks into the Palace this season?
