Lakers Sign Chris Douglas-Roberts to Training Camp Roster

Not that they needed to get deeper, but the Lakers added swingman Chris Douglas-Roberts to their training camp roster today, the team announced via press release. No word yet on whether CDR will make the final roster. Some details: “The Los Angeles Lakers have signed forward Chris Douglas-Roberts, it was announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released. Douglas-Roberts, a three-year NBA veteran out of the University of Memphis, was originally selected by the then-New Jersey Nets in the second round (40th overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft. Douglas-Roberts has appeared in 155 NBA games (53 starts) for the Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks, recording career averages of 7.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 20.6 minutes. Most recently, the 6-7 forward spent the 2011-12 season playing for Virtus Bologna of the Italian League. In 34 games, Douglas-Roberts averaged 12.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 27.0 minutes.”

i actually like this more than the Jodie Meeks signing. As wrong as that seems.

Nice sign. He is a great slasher and finisher. Makes the Lakers younger and more athletic also.

    Great pickup

    About equal imo.
Meeks gives them the much needed 3 point shooting.
CDR gives them athleticism and running/finishing.
Both needed badly, both shored up with their signings.

what do you exactly do in the training camp roster?

  • BillyCust

Players with non-guaranteed contracts, like CDR, participate in the team’s preseason traiinng. This includes drills, scrimmages & sometimes exhibition games. Players who perform exceptionally well may be signed to contracts for the regular season. Basically an extended tryout for these players.

I hope he makes the Final Roster…

    Training camp FODDER.

His athleticism is average run of the mill nba player imo.

running & finishing is not what the lakers need although fans & the media beat that drum. I know you know this. In the playoffs the lakers game is half court ball not run & gun. if they try to run & gun okc & lac will eat them up.
All of this is imo, of course.

    CDR over Ebanks tho?

    “a three-year NBA veteran”
    What?

  • LakeShow

It’s not about changing the teams style altogether. It’s about adding pieces that can change the tempo and style of the game for when the half court offense gets stagnant. We didn’t say THIS guy is taking us to the promise land. It’s just a fact that Steve Nash finds dudes on the break on the regular and this guy will benefit from his court vision.

  • roscoe

okay… i hear ya. i’d argue kb24s 34 year old legs have higher performance that CDRs.

  • LakeShow

Really? I think your underestimating his athleticism. Check some footage.
