Orlando Magic Waived Quentin Richardson

Needing to whittle their roster down before the season starts, the Orlando Magic cut three players—Quentin Richardson, Justin Harper and Chris Johnson. The Orlando Sentinel has the report: “The Orlando Magic made three moves Saturday that enabled them to keep their most athletic player. By waiving wing Quentin Richardson, combo forward Justin Harper and wing Chris Johnson, the team created a space for undrafted rookie DeQuan Jones, an explosive wing who offers potential as a defender. The roster moves took on a symbolic significance, too. In cutting Richardson and Harper, the new-look Magic front office severed yet more vestiges of the Otis Smith era — but not without a lingering cost. The franchise still will owe Richardson $2.6 million this season and $2.8 million next season unless another team takes the unexpected step of claiming him off waivers within 48 hours. ‘When we started the transition period over the summer, we said to ourselves we want to evaluate everything, and we want to make sure that we judge our players based on the work they put in and the merit that comes with that,’ new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan said.”

hopefully someone gives QRich a deal and he wont have to go to China like others.. meanwhile, Magic is going for that worst record for sure

Cant keep a spot on one of the worst teams in the L? Time to call it a career bub.In the NBA at least, China it is.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Good for him. Hopefully he’ll land with a contender and maybe have a shot at a championship before his career is over. Didn’t he get traded 3 times in one week or something wild like that a couple of seasons ago?

  • Dymez

Toughness, tenacity, three-point shooting. Q will get a call real soon, make a run for that ring.

nice to see that dequan jones made the team, didn’t even avg 6 points as a senior at miami. that baseline windmill he had against carolina his freshman or soph year is still one of the better in game dunks i have ever seen.

Going for the worst record cause we got younger in cutting q-rich who never plays minutes?THose 3 guys may get 2 minutes a night combined…..If u look at the magic starting 5 it is better then u think hell the team is..Im predicting being around the 8th seed entering the final 2 weeeks…..Jameer,affalo,vucevic(who avgs a double double per 48)glen davis and turk with redick harkless jones ayon nicholson, harrington moore.it is not a bobcats bad team remember the magic when they had that heart and hustle team…they had armstrong, outlaw, ameachi, chucky atkins, maggette, monty williams and pat garrity and that team went 41-41…besides boston, miami, lakers, spurs and okc any team can be beat any night
