Shaq and Dwight, Dwight and Shaq

A timeline of the ever ongoing feud between the two bigs.

by Marcus Arman / @marcusarman

Shaquille O’Neal said this about Dwight Howard; Dwight Howard said that about Shaquille O’Neal. Can’t these guys just get along? Well, in the case of former and current Lakers big men vying for position on an already crowded totem pole of legacies, it seems unlikely. La La Land has always had a thing for melodramatic behemoths—from Wilt Chamberlain’s belittling of mentee-turned-peer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Kareem’s harsh criticisms of Shaq in the midst of The Diesel’s early struggles.

The current feud between Lakers’ center Dwight Howard and ex-Lakers’ center and NBA commentator Shaquille O’Neal has been brewing for a minute now. And you can plan on it continuing so long as Shaq’s being paid to voice his opinion and Dwight’s waiting with Tony Stark-styled rebuttals. If you’re wondering who said what and when, click through below and let the story unfold as it should—through the words of the Supermen themselves.

Kevin Duckworth…. Common Shaq…only Kendrick Perkins and Andrew Bynum? What about the best center in the L, Brook Lopez???
    DMC
    Tyson
    Bynum
    Bogut
These guys are all very good centers.

page 3/7 i totally agree with shaq. dwight should be dominating like its the kiddie pool. there is no one in the league to stop him.

Not exactly Ewing, Hakeem, Admiral, Zo, Sabas. Today’s 5′s tend to be invisible on O. Grwat D, but you dont have to think too hard to limit Tyson Chandler’s 25pt games.

Agreed, but enough of acting like Shaq saw nothing but dominant Centers. He saw a few, but also went against some scrubs.

It’s not that Shaq doesn’t have good points, it’s that he takes them way too far in a way that makes him sound bitter for a kid “stealing” a nickname that really is nothing more than a synonym for strength. I mean, if the Superman name can be stolen, shouldn’t Shaq be paying royalties to DC?

Was expecting more from this article, like an uhmm, actual timeline. I guess great expectations are often followed by great disappointments.

The “real” Superman is Clark Kent, who happens to be a fictional comic book character. I think Shaq seriously believes he’s Superman–like, literally, he thinks he’s a superhero. We should give someone the nickname “Aristotle” just to see how pissed he gets… “No fair, I’m the only Aristotle!”

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Let’s put it this way… Shaq didn’t start winning championships until the dominant big men of the ’90s retired and he was left to face Vlade Divac and an old, creaky Our Vitas Sub Bonus.

Wait! What Clark Kent, of the Daily Planet is THE Superman!!!!
*Calls over Peter Parker* Parker I want pictures of one Clark Kent of the Daily Planet, quit getting those pictures of Spiderman! We got big news on our hand!!!

  • Perry the PlatyPteranodon

Oh Shaq, if only you were born in the 19th century, than you could have been the original superman and, judging by your own logic, played like a really old school center. Win-Win!

  • Mr. Wet

Shaq had some good times with Brad Miller too.

Are you kidding me! Chandler Career avgs of 8 8 and 1.5 DMC is new to the scene granted. Boguts best year is like 16 12 and 2.5 for comparison sake Rony Seikaly avg 16 12 and 1.5 for MANY years Brad Daugherty Elden Campbell the middle of the pack for centers all have greater numbers for a longer time. Don’t even get me started about ewing hakeem, alonzo, dikembe, and d rob

those last 5 centers you mentioned… monsters

It’s funny that my main man Shaq said that there are no centers now comparing to his era, when he was young all the good big guys won against him, when they got older he was the only center and guys like Jamaal magloire were all stars. Tyson Chandler, Brook lopez, Andrew bynum, Al horford, Kendrick Perkins, Al jefferson etc. are much better than the big guys of the early 2000s. sorry Shaq, Everyting you said was right, but this thing is totally wrong. and I am a big fan of you since the early 90s.
