Top-10 Breakout NBA Players of ’12-13

These players are primed for prime time.

Before every NBA season, fans and analysts alike love to predict who’s going to have a monster season almost as much as they love to discuss what color socks Tim Tebow was wearing in practice last week. Why? Because we’re hyped, that’s why! There’s an unprecedented pool of talent in this League, and we can’t wait to see who’s added to their games or who brought something that we’ve never seen before.

I tried to avoid second or third year players like Kyrie Irving, as we expect many of those players to improve. This list contains some players you might have overlooked last season. Many of these guys were in small-market cities or played relatively small roles on their teams last season. The players on this list are guys who are either taking on bigger roles with their respective teams, have been consistently improving every year, or simply can’t afford not to explode. Enough chatter-chatter-chit-chit. Check it out…—Jacob Fiskus

Much respect on the melo call

  • Bojangles

Spelling error in the Javale McGee write up. Spelled his name incorrectly lol. Nice post though. Jeff Green will prove to be a key piece for the Celtics.

don’t know about batum, in the blazer games i have seen lately he just drifts in the perimiter the whole game. just runs to the 3 point line like he is scared to get dirty inside

melo is pretty much a done product right now. what you see is what you get — a selfish scorer, lethargic defender, lazy rebounder and an underachieving star.

This has gotta be one of the weirdest lists of breakout players for the upcoming season i’ve seen… You have already established players like Melo and Gay, who honestly wont be getting much better than they are at this point (Melo is in his 10th season!) and u leave out guys that are ACTUALLY primed for a breakout season, like Goran Gragic, Klay Thompson, Kenneth Faried, and Michael Beasley. Come on son.

Kyle Lowry…Bargnani…Epke Udoh even…Derozan, the list goes on and on.

  • Rell

    Beasley.

Faried? Beasley? Lowry? DeRozan? and i even think DeAndre Jordan improved quite a bit

“…and has shown tremendous footwork with an on-slot of moves in the post…”

Wait… Were you trying to say onslaught?
That’s not even a particularly complicated or uncommon word… Sports journalism, hey?

Your all retarded melo should definetly be #1 on this list. He has everything to prove and has changed is mental drastically this offseason

harden. now that he is on the rockets.

  • danpowers

    melo all day

he must have did sth wrong in order to prove us. no wonder he is #1 on this list.

  • melvo

Gay and Melo shouldn’t be on here, they aren’t going to get much better than they already are. Add Harden to the list now. Not only will this be his first time starting, this’ll be his first time leading a team as well. Not sure what to expect from Batum. If anything, I think that the whole “I wanna be in Minnesota” thing may hurt the team chemistry and/or his play. Put Nate Robinson on here, he’s been doing really well with the Bulls.

whatcha mean..?! rudy gay is a finished product

I honestly think Bargnani would have had a breakout season last year had he not been derailed by injury. If he’s healthy this year I think he’ll surprise a lot of people. He’s quietly improved a lot on defense and he’s added a lot of versatility to his offense.
