Tyson Chandler Says Jeremy Lin Wasn’t Able to Run Knicks’ Offense

Now that Jeremy Lin is in Houston, former teammate Tyson Chandler claims that the young point guard didn’t know how to properly run New York’s offense. Reports Newsday: “The Knicks’ play at point guard wasn’t strong last season. Lin, Baron Davis, Toney Douglas, Mike Bibby and then-rookie Iman Shumpert all started at some point. Asked about Davis and Lin, who hadn’t started an NBA game before last season, Chandler said one was too banged up and the other too inexperienced. ‘Baron was hurt and Jeremy was a young point guard who was just learning, trying to learn and figure out an offense,’ Chandler said. ‘It was nothing against them and it was definitely nothing against Baron. Baron was hurt the whole year and giving us everything he had. Jeremy was a young point guard who was inexperienced, who brought a great light to the organization. But as far as being able to run the offense and putting players in the right position he just wasn’t there. We got some veteran point guards that are capable of doing that.’ Chandler was a big Lin fan and praised him repeatedly last season. But with Lin now a member of the Houston Rockets, the Knicks have moved on.”

The Knicks were dead in the water until he was inserted into the lineup. He kept D’Antoni around a little longer. Amar’e was a statue on the floor watching Melo shoot and not being involved really in the offense until Lin got him going. He brought excitement to the Garden. Excitement to the league. Tyson should have nothing to say except “Thanks for making us relevant and a team worth watching and good luck in Houston”.

  • danpowers

but this wouldnt have been the whole story.lin did what you said and chandler also mentioned that he “brought a great light to the organization”. but it was also obvious that lin couldnt run the offense well under pressure, when defenses focused on him. at least he couldnt do it consistently. just a fact. same as that he brought the knicks back to life. both is true.

  • chyea

If running the offense meant giving the ball to Melo on the wing and let him isolate, then Lin really didn’t do that much

  • Sean

This guy is not that great without Tyson setting him hard screen he’s not even a one on one player watch how he becomes a role player in Houston and I’m deff not a KNICK fan

  • Harlem_World

With an Olympic Gold…Lin is nowhere near the relative value of Tyson. Also read the report again – he’s telling the truth and was probably prompted again and again until he gave some kind of answer.

  • danpowers

there is no disrespect in chandlers comment. read the whole comment guys. it is just the slam headline that implys chandler said something bad about lin (which he didnt.)

  • Harlem_World

Bottom line: Felton + Kidd > Lin + Baron

  • Harlem_World

Bottom line: Felton + Kidd > Lin + Baron

    1. Which veteran point guard do you talk about? Felton or JKidd? Jeremy Lin beat both teams they (veterans) were with as a PG.
    2. Did they win Lakers by 38 points while Kobe shot 31 points?
    3. How did they do when they were 23-year-old?
How many PGs in NBA played over 40 mins night to night.
You should learn the statistic: the turnovers / mins the ball was on his hand. And how come he is the top scorer in NBA history, not the veteran (s) you preferred.
Just want to be fair for the comment with JLin. He will be better and better. Not the person who always find excuses to blame others.

It was a lucky run, he ain’t no big deal

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

The linsanity run was all a fluke

  • MUBWAR

uh dan do the knicks pay you? if not why are you defending this sorry ass excuse of an organization on everyone’s post.

  • Datkid

that’s not even really true…. although I think they might be better for this melo-centric offense. but is melo-ball the right way to go for the knicks? I DOUBT it.

  • Datkid

and the 2nd game D.will played against him… good lord.

  • danpowers

i am just able to remember what actually happens and am able to read. just trying to help people in here coz im a nice person ;)

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

$100 says Deron Williams is not done giving you scars

  • Datkid

I actually kinda agree with you, but at the same time had melo cooperated w/ the offense (i.e. kept the ball moving, and become the catch and shoot monster he was in the olympics) Lin could have made defenses pay for focusing on him

  • roscoe

if you read what lin says about himself he would agree he was making dumb mistakes on the court. & jkidd, even at his age, is a better pg imo… that’s not to say lin won’t get better, bc he will imo.

  • ALD

tyson needs to stop acting tough on the court, and then off the court takes nude pictured for ESPN.

  • nice_trousers

the Knicks played the last 6 weeks of the season without Lin. in that span they went 12-5, with Melo averaging 30 ppg on 49.5% shooting

  • Surety

A 7 game winning streak is a lucky run? In a season when the Knicks were 8-15 before that and losing to teams like the Bobcats? The sudden turnaround was lucky? Get your head out of your ass and you might be less of a dumbass. But probably neither would happen.

  • ab40

I see the bitch in you Tyson Chandler.

  • danpowers

    could happen, we will see

  • danpowers

nobody says lin was a bad player. he has some things to offer, like his scoring. but felton and even kidd at his old age are able to take care of the ball and find people in their right spots better than lin. that is the thing lin hast yet to improve and unfortunately this is exactly what the knicks need. i would have loved to see lin stay tho, but i am sure we will do pretty well without him too.

  • Billster

And Tyson; what did you ever run, but yo mouth???thought so..try to stay healthy and maybe you’ll get; 11 minutes per game, this season..

  • zogs19994

    FUCK YOU ARAB

Nothing lucky about going up against Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd and performing well.

  • Beardzerker

Yes it was lucky. What happened to him the rest of the season? It was all hype hype hype. media hype.

  • Beardzerker

He brought excitement to the league? For like a week? No one would know who the hell he was if this wasnt the age of twitter and instant information.

  • Beardzerker

They didnt advance in the playoffs. Douche.

  • Surety

What happened the rest of the season? He started playing in an iso system with iso focused players. He didn’t fit well with Melo or Amare, especially Carmelo. Of course he was hyped but you’re saying media hype helped them win 7 straight games to get them back to .500? You’re even more retarded than Verified Account.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

So the media hype beat the Lakers and Mavs…not Lin leading the Knicks?

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

He came out of nowhere and ended up being a part of the All-Star Weekend. The Knicks were boring to watch before him. Were you under a rock in February? With or without Twitter, all you needed was ESPN to know who he was. Pretty stupid comment from you.

Fuck outta here. Protecting that man like if he pays your bills. Fucking faggot. Tebow of the nba. He got hot cause everyon slept on him. But when he got of teams radar. He got torn to pieces.. I.e the Miami game where the heat tore him apart TO SHREDS. That dude was afraid to dribble the ball up court. Just see how this season plays out as the number one option. Faggot

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

There’s Is something about sleeping on a scrub.. Remember all these stars were tired cause it was basically mid season. They weren’t focusing on this scrub

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

Knicks been dead for the longest bruh

  • danpowers

kidd and felton also had many great games in their carreer, so far actually more than lin had. you guys wining for lin are not able to read properly. nobody said lin was a bad player, actually he is a good player with the potential to become great one day. his ball handling was just horribly under average and later in the season before he got hurt teams were able to shut him down and totally took him out of the game by forcing him to go left. lin may be a better overall player than felton and kidd (at kidds age now) but he lacks that playmaking ability that felton and kidd have. the thing is, lin knows that. he also said that he is watching alot of film (also film of felton) to learn and improve his game. and again, NOBODY said that lin was a bad player. Everybody said that he brought the knicks back to live last year. chandler and anyone in here defending the statement is just stating facts. you tardos need to learn how to read properly

People always forget how many turnovers this dude averaged a game. All you dudes quit treating him like he’s elite

  • danpowers

he played a major role in the mavericks title run, won defensive player of the year honors, overcame an injury plagued early carreer to become a reliable defensive anchor for his squads to rely on. and what did you ever run or achieve compared to that?

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

People always forget how many turnovers this dude averaged a game. All you dudes quit treating him like he’s elite. Glorified scrub

  • Surety

‘Faggot’. Nothing in my post indicates anything about my sexual orientation. But everything in your post says that you’re an idiot. Despite your attempt at a rebuttal, you still fail to defend how utterly stupid your comment was. I don’t give a shit about the man, but I will give him objective due where it is deserved and I won’t where it isn’t. You calling that run ‘lucky’ means that you’re either completely fucking stupid or that you just can’t stand that an ordinary-looking mediocre-athletic asian cat played well this past season and garnered unprecedented media attention along the way. If it’s the latter, you’re still a complete fucking idiot but even worse you’re a spiteful one.

  • danpowers

plus people seem to read the headline only instead of the actual statement.

  • AK

Shutup mr kno it all. You dont know sh.ittttt

  • Jay Cutler

Oooh. Illiterate imbecile learned a new word: faggot. Let’s see you use it a little more creatively now, ok? :)

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    you can just spell shit.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

Race means nothing to me you fool. Don’t even try to throw that card at me. Lets see how your man performs this season.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

Still believe that everyone slept on him. When they focused on him. He got torn apart. Lets see how your man performs this season. He’s def not elite. You forgot to see how many flaws he has in his game

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

Your always too blind to see how many flaws he has in his game

  • Feez_22

His turnovers actually prove he’s a young guard. Most young point guards turn it over a lot. It’s called adapting to the game.

  • danpowers

sure but he did that way too often, besides setting a record for points scored in breakout games he also set a new record for turnovers during that stretch. and yes, he will adjust and develop into a good point guard. he is just not there yet. and the knicks need that kind of playmaker now, and not in 2 years. that was what chandlers statement is about. i dont see how this would be any disrespect to lin
