Dallas Mavericks Expected to Sign Troy Murphy

With Dirk Nowitzki being sidelined for a few more weeks, the Dallas Mavericks will reportedly turn to Troy Murphy. According to the Star-Telegram: “Troy Murphy reached a verbal agreement Thursday to sign a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks, according to a source. But since the Mavs already have the NBA maximum of 15 players on their roster, Murphy can’t officially sign the new contract until the Mavs release or trade a player. The 6-11 Murphy averaged 3.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 16.2 minutes while playing in 59 games last year for the Los Angeles Lakers. A forward with a long shooting range, Murphy, 32, has played 11 seasons, including the first five-and-a-half years with the Golden State Warriors. ‘I can’t really say anything, but I’ll say we are looking for a stretch forward to help us in Dirk’s absence and even after Dirk comes back,’ owner Mark Cuban said on FOX 4-TV. ‘He’s one of the options out there that we’re taking a close look at.’ Earlier this week, the Mavs unsuccessfully tried to trade guard Dominique Jones, who has only played 45 seconds in the first two regular season games.”
