Doc Rivers Says Darko Milicic ‘Most Likely’ Leaving the Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers didn’t refute media reports that center Darko Milicic is seriously contemplating walking away from the NBA to take care of his ailing mother in Serbia – Rivers says it’s almost a certainty at this point. Per the Boston Globe: “Rivers said he saw an immediate change in Milicic’s disposition when he found out the news about his mother and doesn’t expect the former lottery pick back. ‘Most likely (he’s gone), yeah,’ Rivers said. ‘Honestly the stuff with his family has been going on for a while. We’ve talked about it three or four times. It’s probably 50-50, but once you get the one side working, it’s always going to win out. It doesn’t look like (he’ll come back.)’ Rivers said the Celtics are in ‘no rush’ to sign a player to fill Milicic’s roster although players such as Kenyon Martin and Derek Fisher are available. The Celtics are Milicic’s sixth team and he has gained the reputation of having bouts with confidence. ‘His mom gets sick; he’s not playing, the whole sickness, it happens,’ Rivers said. ‘I didn’t fight it much. I told him he’s got to do what he thinks is right. I am going to support him one way or the other. But it’s been going on for a little bit now. You could see a change when he found out she wasn’t doing well, no doubt about that.’”

*In walks Kenyon Martin*… They should of never signed him anyway. Martin will help tighten up that horrible post d they have without Garnett

    ~his mom~

I understand and respect that but from a purely basketball perspective, they should of never signed him.

We should pick up Martin or the Bird Man. That guy is productive on rebounding and blocks. If he can keep cool of the court.

As a Timberwolves fan, I can only say Darko sucks. It’s his attitude that undoes him. I don’t think he likes basketball.

I’d defo go for bird man. He brings that extra bit of something and would be a great with Garnett on defense.

    they should get both

No way the Celtics get Birdman. They signed him years ago, only to let him go once they looked in to his background a little more. That was a LONG time ago. In the wake of more recent, and WAY unsettling reports, I don’t see anybody taking a flier on him. Better for them to wait and see who they can trade for before the deadline. I would prefer either Anderson Varejao or Big Al Jefferson. Give up Fab Melo, Kris Joseph and a 1st rounder. Re-sign Big Al.

Sorry about Darko’s Mom. Kenyon Martin is damaged goods. Wait it out and see what Danny can do. Maybe work something out with Indiana. Hard nosed team, them Pacers. Still bummed out they lost out on the David West deal.

actually this would make sense for both sides – Jazz got way too many big’s either way and C’s with now-vet Jefferson would be pretty scary
