Houston Rockets Will Retire Yao Ming’s Jersey

According to Houston Rockets’ owner Leslie Alexander, the team plans to retire the jersey of Yao Ming. The big fella, due to recurring injuries, walked away from the game in 2011. Per the Houston Chronicle: “Former Rockets center Yao Ming these days will spend more time at the games of his Shanghai Sharks than at Toyota Center, but his uniform number will likely make its way to the arena rafters. Rockets owner Leslie Alexander, speaking after Tuesday’s unveiling of the All-Star ballot, said he expects to retire Yao’s No. 11. ‘Sometime probably, yes,’ Alexander said.”

Only cause of the latest buzz they’ve created and want to continue creating, if you ask me.

they have to. he did loads to the Rockets. His impact was as much as Hakeem did to them.

Off the court yeah. On the court those two are so far apart it’s not funny

As far as longevity/accomplishments, yes hakeem has OBVIOUSLY done more than Yao. Skill wise, Yao was very underrated. Yao wasn’t just in the nba because of his height. Yao was one of the most skilled big men ive ever seen. Point is, it isn’t THAT FAR APART if we’re just talking pure skill. But obviously hakeem has the advantage in athleticism. Yao just couldn’t stay healthy.

I don’t know if you live in Houston JM, but I do and I was in high school during the Hakeem days and of course living here followed Yao. Anyway point is, we saw him everyday and know that his GAME wasn’t that far off Hakeem’s. Yao dominated all centers, yes including Shaq and Howard…while he was healthy. I would dare to go as far and say that he might be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Sure the championships arent there and longevity, but more b/c of how he changed basketball as a player and globally. We’ll see.

Lol that was to funny. Yao had dudes my height dunking on him. Even people in Houston don’t think he was all that. He might’ve help them but hr if far from a dominate player. He want even be a hall of gamer sorry dude put that, pie, down

Yao will be in the Hall of Fame since it’s the basketball hall of fame and not the NBA hall of fame. Yao will get in due to the impact he had in helping the game grow in China. There’s a section in the Hall for “contributors to the game” and Yao will make it in that way if not as a straight up player inductee.
