Jrue Holiday Wants ‘Serious Consideration’ for the All-Star Team

Jrue Holiday is in the midst of a breakout season (18.6 points and 9.2 assits per game), and is quite understandably hoping for an invite to the midseason showcase. Here’s to hoping the Philadelphia Sixers’ crack marketing staff will soon figure out how to properly spell Holiday’s first name as he makes his push for the All-Star team. From the Philly Burbs: “Jrue Holiday said a year ago that he wants to be an NBA all-star. With the way the 76ers’ point guard has been playing, he could be under consideration for an Eastern Conference spot this season. Holiday tallied a career-high 33 points on 13-for-21 shooting, to go along with 13 assists, to lead the Sixers to a 104-101 victory over the Suns on Sunday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Holiday became the first Sixers guard since Allen Iverson (Jan. 26, 2006) to put up 33 points and 13 assists in a game. Iverson had 38 and 15 that night against the Magic. With consecutive 13-assist, 2-turnover performances on back-to-back days, Holiday is averaging 18.6 points and 9.2 assists in 14 games this season. After averaging an NBA-high 6.0 turnovers in the first seven games, he’s down to 2.6 in the last seven. ‘That’s what good point guards do,’ Thaddeus Young said. ‘He’s almost averaging a double-double. Those are definitely all-star numbers.’ Holiday claims he hasn’t thought about the possibility of becoming the Sixers’ first all-star guard since Iverson in this, his fifth NBA campaign. ‘Man, I hope (I deserve serious consideration),’ Holiday said. ‘I don’t really look at the statistics of me and the other guards. I really just try to go out there and play.’”

Sorry Jrue. D-Will and Rondo will take the point guard positions. Joe Johnson Dwayne wade and one more right? How many guard positions in the all star game? 5? Ray Allen may even be a pick considering how well he has been playing.

  • omphalos

Yeah he picked a bad time to be a point guard in the East if wants to be an All-Star.

He’s playing pretty damn well right now, maybe he has an outside chance if he keeps it up.
Or maybe he should make a funny video like Rudy Gay. /halfserious.

Joe johnson? Seriously? Wow. The hate keeps coming!

  • spit hot fiyah

keep up the good play and u have a chance, at least to get consideration

well he probably won’t make it over Deron Williams but God knows he should

its not that Joe Johnson should make it…its that he will make it…its a fan vote man…half the fans in Brooklyn probably don’t know who Jrue Holiday even is

  • Max

Did Rudy allready make one this year?

  • RedDragon10

Joe Johnson won’t make it in by fan vote though. He could through the coaches. Dwyane wade is a lock for one of the starting guards and I’m betting, since D-Rose is injured, that Rondo will make it in as the other guard. I don’t think JJ should even make the bench for his lousy play.

  • Shifty

I don’t think joe Johnson should make it but I’m just saying who will likely make it. Dwayne wade is def playing. Some reason joe Johnson makes it into the all star team. I actually think j.r smith should make it. If he keeps up his play he deserves it.

No, I was referring to his “Most Interesting Man in the NBA” clip he made a few years back. That was gold! Too bad he didn’t get selected though.

  • Dymez

Don’t worry about that, Jrue. You keep ballin’, you’re gonna get that nod for sure. Coaches know.

  • Redd

If Kyrie is healthy on time he should make it.

  • Junior Taylor

Not when AS voting is basically a popularity contest.

  • Max

Yeah, he should do the same this year.

I hope so…we got a heck of a race for all star point guards in the east with Kyrie, Rose, Rondo, D-WIll and even Lowry

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

Will Kyle Lowry get any love?

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

If the Raptors SOMEHOW turn things around and get back up to .500 then maybe. I’m a big fan of Lowry so you know I’m voting for him.

  • Junior Taylor

Even though Kryie gets all the love and praise aka endorsements, I think Holiday is just as good because the advantages Irv has on him on the offensive end (shooting, ballhandling, finishing) are trumped by Holiday’s superior defensive skills. We all saw what happened the last time the two went up against each other in Philly.

  • Redd

Sadly I feel Kyrie hasn’t found the league wide appeal with fans yet though.

  • Max

I dont know, he has quite some fans where I’m from.

  • Cameron

I don’t really think Rose will be up for consideration this year. But maybe you were referring to future all-star games where Rose will be healthy.

  • Lynx

Jennings is taking his spot, cause his play is more noticeable

  • Slick Ric

He’s been playing like the second best PG in east so far, we know who the best has been.

  • SCOTTIE REYNOLDS

    VILLANOVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • Redd

Na I hear you, but like if you asked a girl who has a very basic knowledge of the NBA she’d know who Rose is but not Irving. Not sure how much that even matters but Irving is often injured and that works against him.

Why shouldn’t they both make it? Deron, Jrue, Rondo and Wade should all be all-stars.

I agree with you…I just meant as a starter

    what about monta or bjennings?

  • mj1

This is the most likely roster for the East

Guards: Rondo, Jrue, D-Will, Wade, Ellis

Forwards (including Centers): Lebron, Melo, Pierce, Bosh, Lopez, Chandler

  • http://twitter.com/AjpDos Allen Powell

Depends on how you feel about Wade.

  • http://twitter.com/ecvill11 Edmond Villanueva

Holiday will make it through the coaches’ picks. Fans may not know who he is, but coaches do.

Holiday will make it through the coaches’ picks. Fans may not know who he is, but coaches do. I sure hope so. Dude deserves it.

I hope you are absolutely right. I mean his numbers dominate Deron Williams’
