Kobe Bryant Angry Over the Lakers’ Start to the Season

After two disappointing losses to Dallas and Portland, Kobe Bryant admits that he’s frustrated, and promises to turn up the heat in the locker room. He’s not the only unhappy Laker these days. From ESPN: “It’s going to be a little edgy because I’m not a very happy camper around here right now,’ Kobe Bryant said. ‘Some things we have to shore up, and we gotta make sure we keep a sense of urgency.’ It’s not just that L.A. is 0-2, but it’s how they seemingly regressed after their first loss to the Dallas Mavericks instead of learning from their mistakes. After the Mavs game, most of the Lakers identified two areas where they needed immediate improvement — one was protecting the ball and limiting turnovers and the other was upping the defensive intensity and effort. All that talk didn’t amount to much because the Lakers went from coughing up 14 turnovers and allowing the Mavs to score 99 points to racking up an egregious 25 turnovers against the Blazers that contributed greatly to the Blazers hanging 116 points on the board. [...] ‘It’s hard to find positives right now,’ Steve Blake said, bluntly. [...] ‘We’re taking things for granted a little bit,’ Steve Nash said. ‘We’re just not sharp. We’re not early on any of our rotations. We’re not necessarily proactive and we’re reacting, and I think it’s getting us in trouble.’”

meawhile Mike Brown claims everything is good, even better than he expected

  • PippenAintEasy

Those two losses just separated the real L.A. fans from the bandwagoners. Real fans and long-time L.A. haters know that they’re better than that.

  • EnriquePC

They are talking about the way the are playing defense and offense but they are not talking about their style of play, nobody of the Lakers five play the way they are playing, somebody needs to make another offensive plan, if they continue playing like that it will be worst than the Miami start the first year of Lebron D-Wade and Chris the Alien Bosh

    Tick… tock… tick…

Again, if Steve Nash is going to be asked to walk the ball up the floor and just run half court sets all the time, the Lakers won’t be looking as good as they should look. Dwight played great last night though. Another good game for Gasol. Kobe was efficient, 20 shots is about the most he should be taking on average with this team. But they have Steve Nash looking and playing like Derek Fisher out there.

A real competitor knows each loss is a loss. Pre season or not they have essentially lost 10 straight games. Teams need one or two wins for confidence and they just aren’t showing it. If they don’t want to talk injury then I will just say its unfortunate that they aren’t individually 100%. That doesn’t help, but it’s a team game and their bench had better show up and give some defensive effort. Or just can Mike Brown. He’s not as good of a coach as I thought. It WAS all about Lebron James when he was in Cleveland.

  • Key_34

I don’t think you can play Gasol and Dho. Gasol is a 5 at this point in his career (and due to the bball landscape changing). If the Lakers continue to play with those two in at the same time, this will be a long season.

Nash should dictate the offence every second that he is on the court. They should only run Princeton when Kobe or Gasol are with the bench, to mask their deficiencies.

Defensively, they will improve. It’s not like players of JJ Hickson’s calibre will be hitting pull-ups, consistently, throughout the season.

Mike Brown playing Meeks for five minutes and Jamison at SMALL FORWARD is inexcusable. His distribution of minutes is worse than his offensive “schemes” (ie. Howard bridging the offence at the three-point line).

19.5 turnovers per game doesn’t help, either.

  • ab40

    Captain Obvious probably reported this.

  • RedRum

I have been saying for years that Brown is not a good NBA coach. He can be a brilliant defensive coordinator, but not a head coach. He is severely limited in offense, which makes it almost impossible to win a ring. He is good enough for getting a lot of wins during the regular season, but come play-off time, where all the teams know each other inside out, you need to be able to be creative in order to give your team an edge. Brown in incapable of doing so, hence the Princeton-Jordan combo… which I think is going to resolve into a disaster, given the personnel. LA got it completely wrong, they should have stuck with Shaw, who would continue implementing the triangle which is the offense that suits LA with all this talent. Now they have to re-learn a read and react system in the Princeton. i predict that Brown will not finish the season

0-10 since the preseason. Mike Brown is sure “tricking” them good.

  • bike

No excuse for a group like this going 0-10 even including preseason. Something’s bad wrong with a Nash-run offense that coughs up 25 turnovers. They play like they don’t give a sh*t.

hmm, i remember during miami’s big 3′s first season how everyone became an expert sports analyst just a couple games into the season. lesson: great players don’t all of a sudden make a great team, it takes time…

  • Rainman

Steve didnt look so bad last night, he really ran it when he cud, he got 4 assists in 16 minutes. he had 4 assists in 35 against the Mavs. The offense looked good with Nash out, but that defence isnt looking good. Thats the side of the ball Mike Brown is supposed to be some sort of a mastermind on though…

  • Rainman

you thought he was a good coach when he was in Cleveland? really? All he ran were iso’s for LeBron, he had no imagination.

  • robb

Yeah Nash looks out of sync but turnovers and bad defense are their biggest problems. Offensively they’ll get better, they already are getting better but you can’t expect to win a game when you have 24 turnovers as a team. Kobe was efficient but he had 7 turnovers himself. They need to focus and play some f*cking D.

  • The Spaniard

    Exactly.

    Mike Brown is an idiot.

  • cesar

Defensively the Lakers are getting hammered. Three point shooters are being left wide open to take a shot, small guards are out-rebounding Howard and Gasol in the paint, and turnovers are in abundant; this is not acceptable at all. Players are totally lost with the Princeton offense most of the time. Time to go the pick and roll and the old offense. They have a small window to get Princeton offense mastered and or they will not make it to the playoffs. Now it is not time to learn, it is time to execute.

  • Redd

The trick isn’t over yet! Yee of little faith..Ok maybe it is over.

  • justin05

For sure. We’ll probably lose to the Clips tomorrow night too so maybe we’ll shed some more fake fans before we become nasty.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

lol i see a couple of more loses coming

  • justin05

Is this true? Or are you making a funny?

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

    he trash bruh

  • AJ Noyz

Well, he should be. But, the question is to whom and to why? Lakers need some sense of urgency if they want to keep hopes alive. They are too good as a team to look bad as a team.

  • JN

All he did in Cleveland was get a good defence together. His entire offensive playbook consisted of giving the ball to LBJ or letting Mo ‘regular season’ Williams jack up shot after shot.

I’m still waiting for him to be arrested for impersonating a coach of the year (the biggest joke of an award in the NBA)

  • desertdweller

They are passing too much creating needless turnovers – taking too long to get a shot off (they all look unselfish – waiting for someone else to take the shot). I prefer having Steve Nash calling offensive plays – it’s not very exciting to watch them now passing, passing and passing – they are wearing themselves and us out. The good news is that everyone can assist (passing) to each other in making a shot if they need to. Unhappy fan! Too much talent and high expenses (salaries) on this team and the coach can’t utilize each individual effectively to win one game.

  • moshe

first of all i want to say to the laker fans, patience and please stop blaming kobe just like i read here we have a few things to get straight and all will be in place to improve the turnovers and the bench and free throws and all will be fine besides i hope people know what a wounded lion can do
we have the whole season to go so please have patience
i am not worried at all even if we loose another five games
what counts is the end of the season we are going to be the chamos anyway

  • oylicp

along with steve nash getting those mvp’s

  • oylicp

u bums wanted slow as steve nash who can not check himself and think you are going to win

  • KeepWatUKil

K should just be cool. Earth wasn’t built in a day, and he isn’t surrounded by anyone with the smarts and leadership like Fisher.

  • forpac

Nobody want to say the true problem bash is not a champion point g. Dh and Powell can’t play together in the new NBA teams are playing pf at center and that makes them faster this bench is not good and most important just three defence player on hold team and there old they need to get faster it not coach brown its players this ant MIA they had young fast defenders u will see this not going to work .

  • ends

i Know we say Pre-season doesn’t matter but its a little bit of an indicator of how your gonna start the season and what difficiancies you do have to start

  • Shaquille Oneal

I won Kobes first three championships Dwight isnt superman I am.

  • Ken Harris

First I hear it’s only the preseason and it doesn’t matter. Now you hear fans saying, it’s only the first two games. What’s the next excuse, it’s only November. This team plays like they don’t belong in the NBA. If the Lakers don’t pick up a victory by Sunday, they need to can Mike Brown.

  • http://www.facebook.com/evan.boland Evan Boland

Kobe was… Efficient? Kobe was awesome. Showing true heart and grit. Dwight was terrific as well. And Nash would looking pretty good while he was on the floor.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronald-A-Mitchell/1298536317 Ronald A Mitchell

Losing with Dwight (Superman)Howard. Not good!

  • UncleDrew

Nope, it’s true. They are running a long term plan to develop this team and click, both on offense and defence. Mike Brown claims they are ahead of schedule. I’d contest the fact that this team is 0-2 against teams they should beat, but I’m not paid millions. Lets see what happens!

  • elmaar

Mike Brown is not a head coach. Don’t get it why Kupchak signed him.

  • shockexchange

Bandz make Horry Jr dance … Bandz make Horry Jr dance, with “exceptionally more talent” than the rest of the league, he can win with no hands.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Karen-Johnson/589663300 Karen Johnson

    Go Blazers! Keep it up!

  • G$

Which one of Kobe’s 7 turnovers did you think was the most awesomest Evan?

  • KC

Countdown has started for kobe to start jacking up 30 shots a night

  • http://www.facebook.com/evan.boland Evan Boland

Awesomest lol. Most of them were because of the offense, or because of predicament. I’ll jump on Kobe before anyone, and often did last season, he hurt our team many times. But he played well and with heart last night, and actually deferred to Dwight.

  • irpops

    He is the problem

  • The Seed

I have never liked Nash, don’t need him if we got Howard, but he needs to play defense and make shots. Kobe is mad, Lakers will be fine Haters.

  • nlruizjr

Although Gasol is scoring, Brown is still playing him in the wrong position, he’s to far from the board to help with rebounds, his defense is a liability because he’s to far out and offensively he could be making much more of an impact if he was there next to DH, plugging up the paint. MWP should be starting on the 2nd unit and CDR should be playing instead of Ebanks and what the hell happened to Meeks and AJ, they have been missing in action, Mitch it’s time to clear the black board again and find someone that can score with consistency, enough of your inconsistent, has-beens, you can’t win with a poor 2nd unit, these guys seem worst than last years crop and that was bad, Lakers got to do something before the trade deadline, even if it means trading Gasol and MWP !!!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/AjpDos Allen Powell

They gave up 116 to the Blazers. Kobe and Nash up top is a problem.

  • http://www.facebook.com/shooting.guard.319 Shooting Guard

lol you’re killing me man lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/shooting.guard.319 Shooting Guard

I’m not even a fan but I know one thing: the los angeles lakers will be just fine

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

until Dwight is back in form. Jameer Nelson & JJ Redick/Jason Richardson were fine, i’m sure Nash and Kobe will to. Well, until Russell Westbrook comes to town.
