Kobe Bryant Reacts to D-III Player Jack Taylor Scoring 138 Points

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Jack Taylor, a Division III guard for Grinnell College, did something last night that blew even Kobe Bryant away.

Taylor scored an NCAA record 138 points, taking 108 shots in the process, and hitting 27 threes (on 71 attempts from deep) along the way.

It wasn’t just Kobe who was impressed — others around the NBA couldn’t quite wrap their heads around the fact that someone scored that many points, let alone took that many shots.

But it was Bryant — he of the legendary 81-point game back in 2006 against the Toronto Raptors — who had the best (and funniest reaction) to the feat.

Per ESPN:

Bryant: “Really? Wow. That’s impressive. That’s crazy. I don’t care what level you’re at. Scoring 138 points is pretty insane. How many threes did he shoot?” Reporter: 71. Bryant: “Holy sh–. How many points did they score as a team?” Reporter: 179. Bryant: “What?!” Reporter: No other starter had double figures. Bryant: “That’s incredible.” Reporter: Dude on the other team scored 71 points and lost. Bryant: “That’s amazing. He must have been wearing the Mambas, man. Only Mambas have no conscious to shoot the ball like that.”

Reporter: If you did that, would people be celebrating you? Bryant: “Would people be celebrating me if I scored 138 points? You know how it is, some people would, some people wouldn’t. They can all kiss my ass as I’m sure he feels the same way. If you score 138 points, you kind of have a license to tell people to f*ck off.”

Jack Taylor’s team bested Faith Baptist Bible College 179-104. By comparison, Kobe Bryant only managed to score a pedestrian 25 points last night, in a Lakers win over the visiting Brooklyn Nets.

There’s highlights, he was double teamed alot…

Not a lot at all. The other teams coach said they didn’t even try and focus on defending him. Oh and he DIDN’T CROSS HALF COURT on defense. He just pressed, if the press got broken he cherry picked.

He’s being guarded. Obviously not well but there’s always a hand in his face. It’s impressive dude. He’s breaking guys off the dribble and shooting in their faces. And no doubt, he didn’t play any D. Hell, he wouldn’t have the energy to after that many shots haha. But that shooting is impressive. He’s not a pro here, he’s not expected at D3 to make every open shot. But he made a good percentage of contested ones. But if you can’t be convinced, we’ll agree to disagree. I was impressed.

That video shows 8 shots. You can’t honestly feel like you saw enough highlights from that video to think those shots represented the whole game. The kid shot 108 shots and 72 threes, of course he will make some tough ones and some contested ones. And ofcourse whoever puts the highlight together will choose the most impressive shots possible. That video doesn’t prove anything other than that he was NOT at any point in the game, double teamed. Unless you are defining double teamed as two defenders stop him from getting in the lane? That did happen on one of the two pointers. There is no way to convince me this is impressive. And I really hate that they did it because it is disrespectful to the game and the team they were playing.

I was actually at the game. I cant tell you firs thand that he was playing defense with his team. his conditioning was impressive, as he stayed in the game full speed pretty much the whole time. he looked tired, but he just kept going and going. and he didnt cherrypick much at all : once we got the ball back he was just constantly moving and trying to get open and his teammates were helping him to get open. his hustle was impressive

Right? 100 points is nothing. that’s why everyone does it and we hear about 100 point games all the time. you’re that guy that sees someone do a 360 dunk then says ah that’s nothing i could do that.

Your the guy who just assumes sh*t.
