Mickael Pietrus Signs With Toronto Raptors, Dominic McGuire Waived (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Mickael Pietrus is the latest Raptor, as it had been reported earlier. Toronto waived Dominic McGuire to make room. Per the CP:  ”The Toronto Raptors signed free-agent swingman Mickael Pietrus on Friday and waived forward Dominic McGuire. The six-foot-six Pietrus has a .357 three-point shooting percentage over his nine-year NBA career. He has averaged 8.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 21.5 minutes in 538 career games.”

Nine-year veteran forward Mickael Pietrus has at last found an NBA gig again. The Toronto Raptors will ink the free agent today, according to his agent. From CSNNW: “The deal will be finalized Friday morning and Pietrus is expected to suit up Friday night when the Raptors host the Phoenix Suns. Bill McCandless, the agent who represents Pietrus, confirmed this agreement via text message. ‘It has been a long journey and a long summer,’ McCandless said. ‘We started this process first off with high expectations in July and had a bunch of phone calls. We spoke with Chicago and Houston early on. As we got deeper in the year, we had conversations with Atlanta, Minnesota, and Toronto. We never heard from the Lakers. There was never any interest from them. At the end of the day, Toronto was the place for him and he’s happy to be there. He is going to place where he knows he’s going to play and help the team and he has a high regard for Bryan Colangelo (Raptors General Manager).’ Pietrus, 30, will immediately fill a void for the Raptors at small forward. The team’s four small forwards in Landry Fields (elbow surgery), Dominic McGuire, Alan Anderson (torn plantar fascia), and Linas Kleiza haven’t played well up to this point. Pietrus passed a rigorous physical examination in Toronto [Thursday].”

The Lakers firing of Mike Brown seemed way too fast but you got to admire the desire to fix a team. The Raptors still having Bryan Colangelo running the team is a travesty. Any one of us SlamPosters/linkstagators would be a better GM than this idiot. He could have traded moved Bargnani, Calderon, Bosh, draft picks the list goes on. They are not the worst in the league but getting there it’s embarrassing. Even the Bobcats are at .500 .

    Welcome To Toronto!

The accruement of yet another marginal player….Coangelo’s brilliance continues to shine.

Well, they’re getting absolutely nothing out of the SF position. I suppose they think he can play at the small forward position and maybe contribute a little defense while hitting a few threes, which will already be an upgrade.

It sucks to be a Raptors fan right now. Not only are the Raptors a distant fourth, maybe even fifth among Toronto’s professional teams, but there’s so little excitement around the team that we’re superficially thrilled about a journeyman signing with us, although deep down we know things are probably hopeless. http://raptorsrepublic.com/2012/11/30/raptors-finally-finally-sign-pietrus-internets-rejoice/

In all fairness the team got off to a rough start because they lost Lowry when he was in a groove due to his injury, but overall the teams not playing as bad as their record. However their fourth quarter resume is embarassing if not absolutely terrible; I’m from Canada and I have a lot of friends who are Raptor fans, but they’ve lost hope already. I’m keepin my head up for a turn-around, we just need to get rid of the Bargnani Plague; it’s really that simple in my opinion but of course our Euro-happy GM can’t get enough of his three-point shooting 7 footer that doesn’t rebound a lick or show an ounce of toughness or desire to be the leader this team DESPERATELY needs. Still, we got DeMar playing All-Star ball, Lowry is in that discussion, JV is playing well for a rookie, and Terrence Ross could be an outstanding wing.
