Rajon Rondo Suspended 2 Games, Gerald Wallace Fined $35K for Fight

All things considered, the two-game suspension that Rajon Rondo got from the League is probably a light one. The NBA was expected to hand out a much harsher punishment, despite Rondo’s claims that he did nothing wrong last night. (The Brooklyn Nets faced no suspensions, but forward Gerald Wallace was dinged $35,000 for his role in the tussle.) From WEEI: “Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said that point guard Rajon Rondo has been suspended for two games by the league for his actions in Wednesday night’s altercation with the Nets. [...] ‘I think KG would appreciate that Rondo stood up for him, but that’s not helping the team, and that’s the objective,’ Ainge said. ‘Taking yourself out of the game, I don’t think that’s a fair tradeoff, Rondo for Kris Humphries. I don’t think that’s helping your team, and so ultimately that’s what you have to do. I think that KG probably does appreciate it, and that’s probably why KG sort of got back in there to try to help and rescue Rondo after because he knew that he had come to his defense. I just think you can’t do it in today’s [game]. In old-school basketball, you were able to do those things, but in today’s day and age, you just can’t do that, and hopefully this is just another learning experience, not just for Rajon, but for the whole team.”‘

Really? Nothing wrong? The foul wasn’t hard, wouldve been an easy 2 free throws at the line but for some reason decided to stand up for KG when we are all aware that KG can defend himself. Hell come to anyone if he has a problem. No need for Rondo to get involved over nothing.

Hey Rondo, Hitler claimed he did nothing wrong either, look where that got him.

All jokes aside, good. Little punk deserves it.

The Celts are old and desperate and there’s nothing left in the tank. When they were contenders they would not have let such a minor incident affect them like it did. They’d have sucked it up and put a legitimate beatdown on Kris Kardashian and the Nets. The mighty have fallen and it’s not looking too pretty.

2 games for a push? A push? That’s plain ridiculous. They might as well just ban low post play then. Paul Pierce fell from Joe’s crossover harder than Rondo pushed Humphries.

Ainge: “Back in the day I was bitin’ off guys’ fingertips…those were the days.”

Tree Rollins bit Ainge, not the other way ’round!

    Persian rugs aren’t even soft…

  • Caboose

It was a tad more than a push, genius.

I don’t know who this “Caboose” guy is, but he can kiss mines. Dude sounds softer than Stern.

You wanna watch the video, chief? Rondo pushes Humphries. Humphries does not retaliate. Rondo steps forwards and goes for Humphries’ throat. Humprhies pushes back. The referee attempts to grab Rondo. Rondo pushes the referee away. Rondo pushes Humphries into the crowd, and continues to shove. A tad more than a push. Moron.

  • Caboose

Not sure if trying to illustrate the NBA is soft and has messed up simile or trying to say NBA isn’t soft because Persian rugs aren’t very soft…

  • Dymez

Translation: Rondo pushed, then kept pushing, pushed some more, Humphries pushed, but Rondo keeps pushing. Yeah, man. I’m a moron. The guy obviously got suspended for more than a push. My bad…… Caboose.

He put his elbow into a referee’s face. You can be ejected for touching a ref; essentially engaging in a physical altercation with one merits suspension.

  • Dymez

Now we’re going to say it was an elbow to the referee that got him suspended? It wasn’t. He didn’t even elbow the guy. The ref grabbed his arm and Rondo, without even looking at him or extending, shook him off while Humphries was pulling on him, even taking swipes at his head. The suspension handed down from the league stated that Rondo is suspended for “escalating a brawl.” Lead official, James Capers stated that the reason for Rondo’s ejection was he “initiated everything that proceeded the foul.”

So, if you want to eject him, and that’s in the rulebook? Ok. But, 2 games for a shoving match — ridiculous. Players have gotten just technical fouls for worse. Rondo, himself, has gotten away with worse. Hell, Kris Humphries has gotten away with worse, just now.

    KG should be fined too.

This is what happens when you play for a record.
