New Orleans Hornets Waived Matt Carroll

The Matt Carroll Era in New Orleans has come to an end before it could even begin — the Hornets waived the veteran shooting guard whom they’d recently traded for. Per the Times-Picayune: “It’s unclear whether the Hornets reached a buyout with Carroll, who was set to earn $3.5 million this season, or if they’re merely absorbing the salary hit. General Manager Dell Demps has not responded to e-mails regarding the situation. When asked at New Orleans Arena Tuesday night for clarification, Demps said he had no comment. Carroll was obtained last week in exchange for seldom used forward Hakim Warrick. Now in his 10th NBA season from Notre Dame, Carroll, 6 foot 6, 212 pounds, has a 6.6 points per game career scoring average. It had been reported by national websites that the Hornets were negotiating a buyout with Carroll. Demps would not confirm or deny that. If, in fact, it was a buy out, the Hornets would save at least $500,000. Warrick was scheduled to earn $4 million this year.”
