Andray Blatche Will Discuss Contract ‘After’ the Brooklyn Nets Win the Championship

Andray Blatche has found a new lease on life in Brooklyn, and with that, comes optimism. A whole lot of it. Blatche, a free agent next summer, told the media that he plans to negotiate a new deal with the organization once the Nets win the 2013 NBA championship. From the NY Daily News: “Andray Blatche has the greatest of expectations for himself and the Nets. But that’s only for this season [...] The Nets center said he’d like to re-sign as a free agent next summer but understandably couldn’t commit to anything so early in the season. So when will he discuss free agency? ‘Talk to me after the playoffs,’ he said. ‘I mean, after we win the championship.’ Blatche, who will be an unrestricted free agent in July (assuming the Nets guarantee his contract before the Jan. 10 deadline), is in a unique situation. The 26-year-old, who cannot sign an extension under the CBA rules, is getting paid about $23 million by the Wizards over three seasons because he was waived last summer via the amnesty clause. Whatever figure he earns in the first two years of his next contract will go to Washington, unless it exceeds the nearly $8 million per year he got from the Wizards (very unlikely scenario). Blatche has publicly derided the Wizards for how they handled him during his final season, so saving owner Ted Leonsis money probably isn’t a priority. Blatche’s high production has been an unexpected bonus this season. He’s averaging 10.6 points and 6.1 rebounds in 17 games, demonstrating that motivation and fitness can rejuvenate a sagging body and career. The Nets (11-6), losers of two straight going into Friday’s game against the Warriors, will continue to start Blatche at center with Brook Lopez sidelined because of a foot sprain. [...] ‘There’s no reason not to want to come back,’ he said.”

    Absolutely nothing wrong with this

being amnestied has to be the ultimate disrespect in the nba, you are basically being paid for staying away from your old employer, or getting paid to work for someone else so that the old employer doesn’t have to deal with u

Ahahaahahaha!!! Exactly!! They will make the playoffs no doubt!! But championship???? NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Max

I’d take it anyday of the week hahah.

  • MUBWAR

off course we would Max, you and I aren’t making 8mil a year.

Still, I’d take the money I would get from my last job while not doing it while having a better, even be it less paid job.

Not even remotely. Eddy Curry provides no statistical bump. Blatche, while still a bamma, is actually complimenting his team’s play style and is surprisingly being an asset to the squad.

Looks like Mr. Blatche channeled his Rex Ryan predicting championship.

  • shockexchange

Why wasn’t he an asset to the Wizards then?

  • spit hot fiyah

    exactly!

championship? i know the league boasts a few dumb players but this one deserves an award

thats probably a question better suited for him and wiz management, But for a time he was very much an asset to the wizards. During the time of Caron, Gilbert, and Jamison, he provided a spark as often as possible. It wasnt until everybody’s departure that he began to falter. He may not be enough of an asset to lead a team to a W but in a support role he has value.

  • shockexchange

It’s very rare that a player who “has value in a support role” is in the media mouthing off about his next contract. That’s what everyone is reacting to. If you are in a “support role,” then play your role and be seen and not heard.

and away from the wizards? sounds like a dream
