Carmelo Anthony to Sit Out With Deep Finger Cut (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The New York Knicks confirmed that Carmelo Anthony is officially on the Chillin’ List due to a deep cut on his left middle finger. ‘Melo will sit out tonight’s nationally-televised game against the Miami Heat, and there’s no word yet on when he will play again. From the team’s Twitter page:

“.@carmeloanthony is out tonight with a laceration on his middle finger. @RealJasonKidd is in the starting lineup.”

Due to a finger injury against the Charlotte Bobcats, Carmelo Anthony could end up missing tonight’s showdown in Miami against the Heat. ‘Melo, who suffered a deep cut on his left middle finger while diving for a loose ball, says he’s not sure yet if he can play. Per the NY Daily News: “The finger on Anthony’s non-shooting hand was heavily bandaged afterward, which makes him a game-time decision against LeBron James and the Heat. ‘Right now it’s numb so I don’t know,’ Anthony said after the Knicks, owners of the best record in the East, improved to 13-4. ‘I’m not getting on Southwest. I’m going to Miami.’ The reference, of course, was to the controversy surrounding the San Antonio Spurs last week and the team’s decision to send Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Danny Green home on a commercial airline rather than play the Heat. The flight that may prevent Anthony from taking the court was his decision to dive head-first for a loose ball that was headed for the Knicks bench. It was a valiant effort but a costly one as Anthony cut his hand on a metal container behind the bench that is used to keep heating packs warm. [...] ‘I want to play against Miami,” said Anthony, who isn’t sure if he can catch or control the ball with his finger bandaged. ‘But at the end of the day I have to do what’s right for my finger. It’s a deep cut. If I can’t play then I’ll see them two more times.’ He then added: ‘I’m going to take some time off from diving into the stands.’”

I love the effort from Melo. Hated that Walt Frazier said he can’t do things like that tho. Anthony is valuable, but when he wasn’t doing this type of stuff people complained he didnt hustle, Frazier included. Now he hustles, and people are saying he shouldnt. Just shows no one is ever happy. SMH

If u are going to cut up your hand (melo and amare) do it in style like spreewell: on your yacht

I liked the hustle but he really didn’t need to jump for that ball, it was a shot clock violation.

Awww so he has a boo boo on hes thumb…..Its about time Melo starting play D on a consistent basis although some people might argue it takes alot of person to perform both ends of the court which is true…..but nobody said champions come easy….Wade was a good example in 2006 how if you do it on both ends good results will follow.

I hope he plays but if not then we will see him again and again

he needs to play smarter not harder

“But at the end of the day I have to do what’s right for my finger”…I don’t know why, but this made me laugh.

It’s not the hustle Clyde was upset at. It was Melo’s hoops IQ. There was no need for him to chase that ball out of bounds — it was gonna be a shot clock violation. Melo has a brainlock like this regularly – remember when he’d get scored on while he was complaining to refs?

You have a point but in the heat of the moment during a tight game like last night, you kind of just react. Had he saved it and the Knicks got a fast break layup and went up 2 and won the game based on that play he’d be “Almighty Melo” today. I think it was just instinct group with him trying to show more effort that made him hustle after that loose ball. Just happened to be at the end of the shot clock and he cut his hand. I still appreciate the hustle and would take that kind of effort anyday. I do feel you tho

Pull a Kobe, bandage it up, and alter your shooting form.

yup, i read about the bulls struggles n saw the standings but thibs is still at the sidelines, the team is over 0.500 and as a knicks fan im used to watch my squad underestimating struggling opponents (this season not so tho). thats the nba, anything can happen.
