Celtics and Pistons Reportedly Interested in Trading for DeMarcus Cousins

DeMarcus Cousins has said he won’t demand a trade out of Sacramento, but that might not stop the Kings from moving him to install a veteran presence in their young locker room. According to ESPN.com, if/when Sacto does decide to test the trade waters, the Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons are willing to talk business: “The early word from the DeMarcus Cousins trade watch, according to the latest rumbles on the personnel grapevine, is that Kings co-owners Gavin and Joe Maloof remain reluctant in the extreme to part with their young big man, especially at a time when — after three suspensions already this season — Cousins’ trade value isn’t exactly on the upswing. There’s a growing sense among potential suitors that under-fire Kings general manager Geoff Petrie, who has overseen zero trips to the playoffs under five coaches in the six-plus seasons since Rick Adelman left town, would be willing to move Cousins, preferably in exchange for a dependable veteran of quality or two who could bring some instant improvement to a franchise stuck in lottery land and still plagued by an uncertain future in terms of where this team will be calling home in the long term. [...] Front-office sources say that Boston and Detroit, just to name two teams, have let it be known that they are highly interested if and when Cousins does become available. Rest assured there will be more.”

i think Cousins would benefit greatly from getting traded to Boston – vets would fix whatever attitude problems he has, he would learn allot from KG and Rondo would make his offence make it to the next level.. and Boston would have pretty bright future if it works out

  • Redd

The Kings better not trade for KG, Pierce, or some dumb piece. Cousins is a franchise player, go big or go home. A Cousins/Monroe deal is the fairest. But they’re both the same players but Monroe is more coachable.

The only deal that I can imagine making sense for both sides would be if the Celtics stripped their depth…maybe Cousins for Jeff Green, Courtney Lee and Sullinger? I have no idea….but I would be shocked if they traded KG or Pierce

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

“I’m going to set this franchise back 5 years from becoming anything close to a contender so we can contend for an 8th seed and I can keep my job!” how is he getting away with this…..

  • Stephen A. Smith

If Cousins goes to the Celtics that would definitely help his maturity and the vets would guide him and help him reach his full potential, the Celtics need a Center anyway. If a trade does go down, I think this would be in the best of both teams interest. Avery Bradley would definitely help the young nucleus of the Kings and Fab Melo as well, just need to give him some time to develop.

Celtics Receive: DeMarcus Cousins and draft pick

Kings Receive: Avery Bradley, Fab Melo and Jarvis Varnado

  • KBM

I know DMC is very talented and a hot commodity, but that seems like a lot to give up for him.

  • RKJ92

that’s a horrible trade.. the King’s would NEVER do that..

  • delonte

KG has a no trade clause.

  • RKJ92

Seems fair given that Jeff green and Sullinger have known health issues

  • Dymez

Why would you trade Cousins for a veteran presence in the locker room when it is Cousins who needs the veteran influence? It doesn’t make any sense.

  • Redd

Yeah that’s an incredibly bad trade idea.

  • roscoe

if dcuz gets his head right he will be a top 2 center in the league.

  • roscoe

i can’t imagine BOS trading KG, but I can see them trading Pierce (the wheels are wobbling off) imo.

  • KBM

    yes, a hot commodity

  • tgm

I dont know what Boston has to offer. I mean they would have to trade Green , Bass and Lee for this trade to go down but they all have trade clauses. Boston cant get DMC without trading Pierce and that will never happen … Boston wont give up Bradley ….

  • https://twitter.com/jasontichenor Mr. Wet

KG has a no trade clause.

  • theDankerNuggets

Seems smart for the Celtics to pursue him, but the Pistons trying to trade for him doesn’t make much sense when they have both Drummond and Monroe still developing for them down low

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

wait IF they HAVE known health ISSUES then why WOULD that make it FAIR?

  • RKJ92

Because their still good players? are you serious right now? lol

  • @ILEADSOFOLLOW

As a pistons fan if your telling me we give up Greg Monroe or Andre Drummond for Cousins….HELL NO….Dumars dont be stupid..Monroe does everything cousins does AND passes…AND No Headache…Drummond has a bright future has exceded expectation and the kid is extremely coachable unliike cousins..Now if there is a 3 way between Detroit Boston and Sac where (just an example.calm down) We get Jeff Green Boston gets Cousins and Sac gets Prince Stuckey and throw ins….then yes do it!

  • AQWORD

PPs going back to Cali Cali !

  • Dula18

just ignore that gilbert guy. he never makes any sense

  • Random

Boston gets – Demarcus Cousins, Tyler Honeycutt
Sacramento gets – Courtney Lee, Jared Sullinger, Fab Melo, Leandro Barbosa, 2013 first and second round pick, cash considerations

  • Random

interchange Sullinger and Bass if you please

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

remember this is the Kings management we are talking about…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

me making fun of your occasional excessive use of caps was supposed to show sarcasm silly!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

hey is this candlewood jay’s second account?

  • justin05

I hope not. There aren’t too many guys like Kobe and Duncan who stick with the same team anymore.

  • justin05

You make sense. I still think it would be a fair trade, however, given Cousins’ issues and unknown health concerns in the future. Big men don’t have much longevity in this league anymore.

  • Redd

Depth? Lol no way you trade a potential all star center for those pieces.

  • Stephen A. Smith

Why wouldn’t they? Avery Bradley for DeMarcus Cousins, sounds good to
me. You can add in a few more player like a Tyler Honeycutt and Courtney
    Lee.

  • Stephen A. Smith

    How so?

  • http://twitter.com/dma_pdx Dma

the boston poo poo platter for cousins? good luck moving anything on that celtics squad for cousins. three team-trade would be the only way.

  • Redd

The fact you’re evening asking that is crazy, it’s a no brainer.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

true that…but because there are so few dominant big men…i’m sure the Celtics would do quite a bit to get Cousins and Rondo teamed up…if anyone can get Cousins’ head straight it’s Doc and KG

  • Stephen A. Smith

Women shouldn’t talk about sports period.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

Jeff Green, Sullinger, Bradley? it’s not a horrible idea because who knows if Cousins is gonna stay in Sac….btw i’m not saying this is gonna happen im just trying to imagine a potential deal

  • RKJ92

That was such a STUPID response, that I can’t even justify that with an answer.. no offence man..

  • spit hot fiyah

i don’t think the pistons give up monroe, he is having a very good season. and adding cousins without giving up monroe could also slow down drummonds progress, so it seems kind of wierd for detroit. unless they want to make a 3 mam rotaion for their bigs with drummond cousins and monroe, whichs seems kind of scary actually

  • tnrc75

    Is this really Stephen A?

  • Mack

To all those saying Pierce is getting traded, #SoDisrespectful! If he doesn’t retire as a Celtic someone fuxked up heavvvy.

  • Mack

The funniest part is the Kings WOULD seriously consider the offer and wouldn’t surprise me if they pulled the trigger; I could see it going down if the Celtics throw in Sullinger instead of Fab Melo.

  • Junkie

RKJ92 maybe if we offer to wash some of the Kings’ cars for them they’ll agree to that trade. BTW that raptors blowout was siiiick

  • Junkie

Can anyone imagine a potential KG Cousins front court though that would be fun, and KG can teach him not to be a knucklehead thug in the lockerroom and instead be a knucklehead thug to the other team.

  • Stephen A. Smith

That is blasphemous! You shouldn’t be allowed on this website, how dare you say such a thing, that is insanity! You clearly have know idea what the game of basketball is and how much Avery Bradley’s value has gone up the last year, you act like Avery Bradley is a scrub, which he’s clearly not, the kid can ball. As far as my sources tell me, the Kings are either going to try and trade Tyreke Evans or let him walk as a free agent this summer, Avery Bradley doesn’t sound like a bad replacement for a team that is clearly going to be in a rebuilding stage for awhile.

  • Stephen A. Smith

Oh and you’re a Raptors, as far as I’m concerned that team should not be allowed to play in the National Basketball Association, and your opinion doesn’t matter, you’re Raptors fan. What a joke.

  • Ugh

He has the name of Stephen A Smith but the brains of Skip Bayless.

  • SixftShaq

Why would Detroit give up Stuckey and Prince for Jeff Green?

  • M Cho

Agreed. There’s no way Pierce and KG let Demarcus cuss out Doc Rivers like he did Keith Smart.

  • RKJ92

You have no sources.. no knowledge of basketball.. stop now.

  • RKJ92

Wooorrrdddd ahaha you can really see Terrence Ross developing lately and that kid is NOT afraid to take it to the rack and just bang on someone

  • RKJ92

honestly if they trade cousins for anything short of a star caliber player I would never respect that organization again.. lol, he has the ability to be such a deadly center..

  • http://www.facebook.com/canyoufinddoublej Joey Nelson

Would be kinda funny if that was actually Stephen A., talk about the truth being said ^^^

  • RKJ92

Deff isn’t though haha, even Stephen A. Smith actually has knowledge of basketball which this guy clearly doesn’t.. should change his name to Skip Bayless, this guy’s a clown.

  • Redd

Exactly that’s a horrible potential trade. It doesn’t matter, you don’t trade a potential all star caliber center for a bunch of dispensable players. That’s never going to happen.

  • Redd

I would pull the trigger on that.

  • Redd

First of all, clearly women know more than you idiot & sorry but if women can raise a child alone im sure they can talk spoets better than men and I’m a guy.

LOL Avery and Fab for Cousins. That’s the stupidest trade idea I’ve heard in a long time.

  • Redd

Oh no that’s very scary but I don’t see how they’d be able to but if they did I see them hiring Ewing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

well then what other trade would the Kings and Celtics possibly do?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

agreed…but man is he having a bad year

  • Redd

In all likeliness it’ll be with Detroit and maybe Drummond & picks. But don’t see Monroe being moved and Celtics have nothing worth trading.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

Great. But the Celtics are linked to a Cousins trade….what trade is possible between the Celtics and Kings? There obviously has to be one, otherwise they wouldn’t be in this story

  • Redd

No idea but the Celtics have no pieces equivalent to Cousins & their picks aren’t worth much either.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1305480958 Bruce Conley

KG has a no trade clause! Not that they would ever trade him anyway….

  • Oscar

I believe many of you guys undervalue Cousins allot. The guy’s pretty much a top 5 center for the next ten years and the Since the Kings want some VETERANS I think a fair trade would be Kings getting Bass(taller, more athletic, more skilled than Hayes),Green(would fix Kings small forward issues) and Celtics 1st rounder for
Cousins(Celtics get future all star and franchise building block, Garcia/Salmons(Kings able to send back a bad contract) and Chuck Hayes. Salaries would match and Kings get the veterans they need . . . not bradley(Kings are loaded in the backcourt), Lee, or rookies Sullinger and Melo

  • Stephen A. Smith

You’re clearly an idiot. You have no knowledge of basketball, you’ve probably never even played organized basketball. Oh yeah and you’re a Raptors fan.

  • RKJ92

I’ve played organized bball all my life… and what does my hometeam have to do with my knowledge of basketball SKIP?

  • Redd

‘Thug’? Because he’s a hothead he’s a ‘thug’? So is Kevin Love a thug too or what? Because that dude rants away much more than DMC or is it just that DMC is black?

    Idiot.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

alright so maybe the Celtics can only get Cousins through a multi-team deal….
Kings get: Paul Pierce, Rip Hamilton, Fab Melo, Mirotic
Bulls get: Avery Bradley, Jeff Green
Celtics get: Demarcus Cousins, John Salmons, Francisco Garcia

Let’s pretend the salaries matchup and that the Bulls waive Nate Robinson putting them under the cap (i don’t know if that would be enough but let’s pretend)
c’mon admit it it’s a little intriguing for all parties involved

  • http://www.facebook.com/qcollingwood Interdico Scriptor

Celtics got nothing to offer anyhoo. Rondo?? no way, Sac has a plethora of guards!

  • Redd

Can’t agree, it’s not as tho I’m being a jerk but it’s true. DMC & Mirotic are the most totted players in that trade. Bulls would lost a huge piece & get nothing equivalent for it.

Kings get 2 aging stars close to retirement & a future star potentially.

Bulls get a good defensive guard & a decent forward but neither are worth Mirotic who is one of the most renowned international in a while.

Celtics simply just win. It’s lopsided.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

I think it would help the Bulls a lot…it would give them what they need now…a 2 guard who is a GREAT defender and has decent O…and then they add depth…that trade could put them over the top!…and all they are giving up is a futre asset

  • joeysmoove

    me too

  • yo

they should trade drummond and keep monroe…demarcus and monroe together would be beast

  • Redd

Yeah his defense is amazing but again no way you trade Mirotic, a guy that’s considered the next Dirk with hustle & grit for Avery Bradley.

  • Frank

WTF? So because women raise kids they can talk sports better? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Sure, there are women who know what they’re talking about, but most DON’T. lol

  • Redd

You’re an idiot, not because I said if and also I never said better than all men, you’re the only one who didnt catch the implication that some women know sports more than some men.
