Dwight Howard Knows Where He Will Sign as a Free Agent

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Dwight Howard revealed some important personal details to the LA Times during a lengthy and entertaining interview. He’s honest, goofy and completely intent on keeping everyone guessing about his future plans. In other words, he’s still very much Dwight Howard.

Without a trace of irony or insincerity, the man claims that he’s trying to change the world: “I feel like I was put on this earth to change the world. I wasn’t put on earth just to play basketball. I want to change the world, and this is a great platform to do it.” He talks about becoming an icon, “someone 200 years from now they will remember.”

Howard also makes it known that he cries … a lot: he teared up when Orlando Magic fans asked him to stay, he cried after LeBron James finally won a championship, and he nearly broke down while watching the latest Tom Cruise flick “Jack Reacher”.

Most notably, Dwight Howard says that he knows which team he will sign with once he becomes the most sought-after free agent in the NBA next summer. He’s just not telling.

Howard will be a free agent at the end of this season. I ask him if he knows now where he will be playing next year, and he says, “I know.” I suggest that means the Lakers because he could not know of any other opportunity at this time. But I still make a pitch for the Clippers, figuring he might want to play for the best team in town. He laughs, and when I suggest that some opine that if this season falls apart it will persuade him to leave, he says that’s not the case.

He says the Lakers are all about championships, and “what’s not to like about L.A.?” There is an expectation by some that he cannot coexist with Kobe. “Why can’t we coexist?” he asks. “Because we’re opposites? I thought opposites attract. You know why we can play well together? Kobe knows how hard I work and that I’m all about championships. We’re also entertainers, and for the two hours and 20 minutes that people come to a game they want to be entertained.”

You really should read the whole thing.

I am totally not surprised that he cries a lot. I hoped by now he would have cut this bs and just committed to a team instead of continuing to mess people around. The rate he’s going, nobody is going to remember him in 200 years.

  • GNett1983

Yeeah D-Wight!! They will remember you as a fckn GOOFBALL!!!

  • RKJ92

No way he stays in LA if they dont make the playoffs, or even lose in the first round, with an almost depleted roster through old age as well.. I just don’t see him staying no matter what he says about LA being his team. Whoever gets him on their team though sure will be blessed..

    Houston

  • kwamepooh

who has the money to sign him?

  • s2k

    ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lars-Hansen/618510464 Lars Hansen

Problem is nobody will sign him. Nobody looking for a quality big man, that is.
However, if you’re looking for an enormous, human coat hanger and happen have some millions to spare, this dude will be awesome. Comes with perfect smile and funny jokes.

Sign and trade him for Bynum and Jrue.

  • shockexchange

If L.A. doesn’t make the playoffs or gets bounced early, D12 won’t re-sign. L.A. will have broken up the best front line in the L (Pau Gasol / Andrew Bynum at the same ____ time) for D12 with a year expiration. It will be the biggest front office blunder since ’86 when Philly (i) traded Moses to Washington and (ii) traded Brad Daugherty(#1 pick) to Cleveland and all they got in return were Roy Hinson, Jeff Ruland and Cliff Robinson.

  • RunNGun

The LAkers… where else since he likes to live in Shaq’s shadow? :) Houston is a distant second.

  • http://twitter.com/NaijaAdditude Mr. E

Smh Bynum’s bum knees are the reason we traded him in the first place. It was a good move to get rid of him.

  • DwightSucks

    This guy is the worst.

  • patrick

    Chicago imo

  • spit hot fiyah

and also by default the best center in the league, so every team with cap room will throw the max at him

  • Dymez

Who would’ve thought that the Lakers and Magic would end up tied for the same number of losses at this point in the season after the Lakers acquired Dwight? I thought he left to go “win championships,” yet this guy seems to be happier and happier about his position each day. I guess winning wasn’t the real reason after all.

not sure if dhoward stays. i would think dhoward after playing with kb on usa in 2007 and 2008 he knows how the mamba ticks. can they work together sure! everyone gotta step up. i do not expect dhoward to be an 80% free throw shooter but at least do like shaq..make em in the fourth!

Who the hell is going to remember basketball players in 200 years? Maybe guys like Jordan or Magic but Dwight Howard? Really? He’s not even Shaq and even Shaq is like half forgotten already.

You do realize that Bynum has not played a single game for the 76ers right? He wouldn’t be playing for the Lakers either.

  • shockexchange

Not true. If he had stayed in L.A. he would not have gone bowling. He only went bowling (which is how he was injured) because he was depressed from having been traded.

  • shockexchangeisahomo

Go read up on the latest news about Andrew Bynum’s status of his knees. Not looking good for him playing at all this year. If Dwight leaves, it would be equivalent to what Lakers would have gotten if Bynum stayed which is nothing. Bynum’s career is in jeopardy right now.

  • LLC#12

True, I think maybe only MJ will be memorable in 100 years time, beyond that, I doubt anybody will care about anybody who is playing sports today.

  • patrick

This guy cannot hit 90/100 in practice i bet. I think that is just wrong…the form of his follow thru on his shot is so weak, that he cannot 90% is not doable…i think that was a typo..he could maybe hit 75% tho….he needs to improve his form to be able to hit 90%..the follow-thru is key..

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you guys realize there are people who can name entire rosters of baseball players from over 100 years ago?

  • Mack

Sorry Dwight but you win a ring for people to take you seriously as far as legendary status… the manchild act ain’t cutting it anymore, really.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he’s talking about the Lakers nitwits.

  • LakeShow

    Your an idiot.

    Career: 18-13-2 57% FG’s

  • LakeShow

    Gentlemen’s bet:

You leave this site entirely if he resigns.

    I do if he doesn’t.

  • Redd

    So the Lakers?

  • LakeShow

    Good deal.

Hopefully LA get’s some young talent to mesh in with he, Kobe, and Nash for the next couple years.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    yes

  • shockexchange

    *Sgt Schultz*

  • leavei

i like that your latest news, has nothing to do with the latest news.

  • http://www.facebook.com/zer02hero15 James Franco Guerta

I think the Magic can throw some deal for him next year ^_^

  • Caboose

Just because Dwight says he “knows” where he’s signing next year doesn’t mean he’s committed to anything. Like, at all.

  • shockexchange

Yeah, it’s funny how guys drop hints and women think it means “He’s gonna put a ring on it,” but he actually means a sweater, or a vest or something.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

lol, he’s signing with the Lakers. You don’t gotta worry.
    .
Whether he signs with the Lakers and is immediately traded to Brooklyn? Entirely different conversation.
    .
Other then that, teams with money wise, only Dallas/Atlanta/Phoenix will be able to offer him a deal. All of which will be $30M less then what LA offers

  • LakeShow

It’s funny that people don’t see the inevitable.

  • LakeShow

  • shockexchange

Let’s keep it one hunnerd, you tryna negotiate with the Shock Exchange is like Kwame Brown tryna negotiate with George Mikan. There’s a reason there’s a “Mikan Drill” and not a “Kwame Brown Drill.”

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

well, in their, especially Caboose’s tortured soul’s, defense, Dwight is crazy.

  • Caboose

Haha he’s signing with LA, don’t worry.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

are you under the impression that people find you to be more than humorous?

  • Caboose

And yes, Dwight is crazy. He wounded my soul. Haha nah, he’s just very vacillating in what he wants and has a large gap between what he does and what he says he does.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yes, but you are a very intelligent individual. you know what Dwight is going to do before he does it. Just like you should have with the Orlando situation.

  • LakeShow

    I’m keeping it one hunnerd…

You can’t imagine having to shut your got damn hole for a minute is the dilemma here.

I have a feeling you wouldn’t take a bet that involved shutting up if your family’s life depended on it… but, if you think you can’t win, I understand.
Not allot of confidence in your own opinions…

  • LakeShow

    Bat sh*t.

  • Caboose

….it means I’m very good at lying to myself as well ;)

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    haha touchè

  • LakeShow

Reminds me of this guy from the movie Heavyweights…

  • kenny

There’s a lot of hate in your posts towards him. I bet he banged your chick, otherwise its not normal for you to be so emotional about a stranger on a message board.
