Dwight Howard Knows Where He Will Sign as a Free Agent

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Dwight Howard revealed some important personal details to the LA Times during a lengthy and entertaining interview. He’s honest, goofy and completely intent on keeping everyone guessing about his future plans. In other words, he’s still very much Dwight Howard.

Without a trace of irony or insincerity, the man claims that he’s trying to change the world: “I feel like I was put on this earth to change the world. I wasn’t put on earth just to play basketball. I want to change the world, and this is a great platform to do it.” He talks about becoming an icon, “someone 200 years from now they will remember.”

Howard also makes it known that he cries … a lot: he teared up when Orlando Magic fans asked him to stay, he cried after LeBron James finally won a championship, and he nearly broke down while watching the latest Tom Cruise flick “Jack Reacher”.

Most notably, Dwight Howard says that he knows which team he will sign with once he becomes the most sought-after free agent in the NBA next summer. He’s just not telling.

Howard will be a free agent at the end of this season. I ask him if he knows now where he will be playing next year, and he says, “I know.” I suggest that means the Lakers because he could not know of any other opportunity at this time. But I still make a pitch for the Clippers, figuring he might want to play for the best team in town. He laughs, and when I suggest that some opine that if this season falls apart it will persuade him to leave, he says that’s not the case.

He says the Lakers are all about championships, and “what’s not to like about L.A.?” There is an expectation by some that he cannot coexist with Kobe. “Why can’t we coexist?” he asks. “Because we’re opposites? I thought opposites attract. You know why we can play well together? Kobe knows how hard I work and that I’m all about championships. We’re also entertainers, and for the two hours and 20 minutes that people come to a game they want to be entertained.”

You really should read the whole thing.

He’s not even the best center in LA.

  • bill

Who can sign him for more, and is in major media market?

  • LakeShow

So your willing to make a bet?
Finally a man willing to take a bet.

Nah, I’m no idiot. But given the money, the attention and everything else, Dwight is more of a coat hanger than anything else right now. LakeShow, do uou feel he’s performing at a levem where we should be happy with him? Do you feel that he is all that he could and should be?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lars-Hansen/618510464 Lars Hansen

    Yeah, that’s a funny name.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lars-Hansen/618510464 Lars Hansen

Oh, and please point out the spelling mistakes I made thanks to my phone.

  • LakeShow

No, but neither is the rest of the team. Plus he had off season surgery.
He is playing fine which is good enough until the ducks are lined up.
He shouldn’t be judged till he is allowed to play how this team wants him to play, which is pick n roll with Nash.

  • Drew

    Shut up Dwight

  • Max

    LOL

  • Max

    Hahahah

  • Max

In 200 years basketball wil have fallen out of popularity as a sport because of the rise of contact badminton. The underground people that still play ball (it will be like a hipster thing) will probably only remember Lebron, MJ and Scal.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

haha nope he is just really, really annoying

  • J-Ro

Joakim Noah and luol deng for Dwight and Artest?

    lol now that’s just silly

  • Max

Hmh, shouldn’t it go like this?
Orlando reach finals –> Lakers win chips –> Miami win a chip –> Suns get your knees fixed –> Cleveland try to win a chip for Andrew Wiggins –> Celtics Just because.

  • Redd

I don’t normally defend Lake but you’re an idiot. Quit listening to Chief Keef kid, you’re a lame.

  • LakeShow

Best part is someone out there up votes this guy…

  • LakeShow

  • LakeShow

I truly think he does, because even on the internets, no one should agree with the nonsensical BS this dood spills.

  • LLC#12

Haha, as impressive as that is, they probably aren’t average joe’s! I meant more that in a wider population beyond diehard sports fans, MJ would still be somewhat memorable.

Question, Of which NBA player does this remind you?
If u get it right the score is 1 – 1.
You only get one chance, and it’s really not that hard.

LMAO Dwight. People remember you as a name on one of their favorite championship roster… MAYBE. If you ever stop whining and win. Other than that, you’re nothing special. You think you’re Bill, Wilt, MJ, Magic, Shaq or Kobe?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

well, depending on how you are looking at it, only the wider American Population knows who Michael Jordan is.

  • Dingo

“You should really read the whole thing” man I would but Im trying to get some enjoyment watching basketball rather than personalities like this, seriously there have been some shockers over the years but this guy takes the cake.

at least they get a healthy point guard out of it.

One of my all-time favorites: Gladiator. Russel Crowe

  • LLC#12

I don’t know, outside of America, I’d still say he’s probably top 5-10 most well known athletes in the world. In 100 years time, If you asked someone to name a 20th century basketball player, if they knew one, it would probably be MJ. Dwight is being ridiculous though, in 200 years, barely anyone will remember any current NBA player, if the NBA/basketball is even still in existence in 200 years.

  • LakeShow

I’m normally good at these “Animal mishap equates to what person questions”, but i’m stuck…

I woulda said Bynum, but that penguin got up after the spill.

I woulda said Paul Pierce, but no one juked him into the fall.

    JJ Redick?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i’m just trolling at this point.

  • LLC#12

    SUCH.A.BLOWHARD

  • kwamepooh

unless they move some pieces dallas and phoenix wont be having enough cap space. atlanta cleveland utah and houston can spend a lot of money and if cp3 is not resigning wit the clips they have some space too. so i guess its gonna be a sign and trade.

  • whatever

aka white mamba aka slug aka trillest

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Dallas and Phoenix will both have enough room for a max contract. Dallas will have enough room for 2 of them. Only Dirk is under contract for next season in terms of significant contracts.

  • Bored

who cares anymore. Lakers are one of the most boring teams this year. so much better ball being played at the moment, by other teams. Dwight is a great player but im sick of hearing about his BS!

  • LakeShow

Oh that’s easy then: “Shawn “the b*tch” Bradley”!!
