Jeremy Lin Says He Has Been Terrible This Season

Tonight, Jeremy Lin will make his first return to New York as a member of an opposing team. There have been almost no signs of last season’s “Linsanity”. Jeremy doesn’t shy away from the fact that he has struggled. Per the NY Post: “Lin’s rip job on himself occurred after yesterday’s Rockets loss in Toronto in which Lin scored just seven points with two assists while Raptors point guard Jose Calderon went off for 18 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds. Asked to assess his season, Lin said: ‘Terrible. I think I’m not doing close to what I’m capable of doing and it’s a matter of figuring out how to get myself to play more like myself within the system with the change of scenery. I’ll be my harshest critic but I’ll go ahead and say it: I’m doing terrible.’ The undrafted Harvard point guard is averaging just 10.8 points, 6.0 assists and shooting 39.5 percent. [...] Lin is anxious to get this Garden game in the rearview mirror, though his Rockets had great success in the first meeting in Houston — a 131-103 blowout. Chandler Parsons (career-high 31 points) and James Harden (33) erupted in that contest and Lin was steady as a rock (13 points, seven rebounds, three assists). ‘Definitely, I’m definitely ready to get it over with just because I think in some sense there will be some closure,’ Lin said. ‘This will probably be the first return back to MSG and there will never be another first return. So we’re going to go out there and play and have some fun and enjoy it and move on.’”

If anybody didnt see linsanity not repeating itself this season then you simply do not know the game of basketball.

It’s weird seeing Toney Douglas outplaying Lin and getting extended minutes, often finishing 4th quarters. Part of the problem is James Harden being a superior ball-handler and distributor which detracts from Lin’s preferred game. Another part is McHales .. whatever.. system the Rockets run. Too often it’s 1 pass, a cross-pick, and then a contested shot. Harden settles too much for a tough cross-over and a deep 2. (I know he gets to the line a lot and finishes amazingly well inside the key, but really, he bails the other team out with his outside J’s at times.)
Lin can’t shoot from the outside and he can’t go left, and that hurts him too. Douglas gets 4th Q minutes because he CAN shoot, and he’s a better overall defender. Understands weakside rotation and passing angles. Lin has the second most games amongst guards with 2+ blocks (T. Evans is 1st), but overall.. ehh. He’s not good defensively. Has really good hands for loose possessions but can’t lock a PG down (see, Calderon, Jose). Nobody on Houston’s team is good defensively outside of Asik and Parsons (who is my MIP btw).
Basically, he’s right. He’s played like doo-doo for the large percentage of the first 1/4 of the season. Hopefully he picks it up if Harden sits. They play better without the other on the floor.

Lin been horrible, cause he actually isnt too good of a basketball player.. now lets all forget Linsanitys hype, but remember that short time of good games shouldnt equal huge deal and comparing to MJ (yea i see u SLAM asian commentators).

Lin will make this statement each year for the next two years. By the time people figure out “that dog don’t hunt” he will have earned tens of millions in salary and endorsements.

ummm Yeah. But when i said this guy was a product of D’antonis fast paced offense and not worth the money on his new contract, I got blasted by the Lin-huggers, i was called a hater, all that nonsense, Love is blind. Not to mention last year, defenses didnt have a book on him yet. So im really not shocked that hes showing his true colors now..hes only good going to his dominant hand and hes still a turnover machine. Facts.

Lin been horrible, cause he actually isnt too good of a [NBA] basketball player.

There are plenty of guys not in the NBA who could look good over a short stint when the offense is centered around you, know one is even bother to list you on the scouting sheet because no one knows you and no matter how many flaws you have you’re not coming out of the game because there are no other options.

Lin is a nice kid who will make some nice money and dominate rec leagues after his playing days are over.

I actually think Lin has played ok. Meaning, he’s doing better than I thought he would. Had they not made the trade for Harden, I think he’d be putting up the numbers most linsanity fans thought he would.

I just wished the Rockets never amnestied Scola. Scola and Harden make a good tag team. And Lin just needs to control the things he needs to control. Remember its the 1st half of the season. He will get better.

Clearly, lots of people dislike Jeremy Lin and are quick to criticize him. And clearly, he just proved them wrong by dominating New York’s guards, as he did with his fantastic 38-point/7-assist game against the Spurs, and as he will continue to do throughout this season and the rest of his career.

It’s called ‘regression to the mean’.

  • Larry Sportello

They wouldn’t have been able to get Lin, Harden and Asik if they kept Scola.

They should have at least for this season and until next seasons deadline. The Rockets are a team that likes to spend money. And with Parsons, Patterson coming up as well, they would have been players in next years FA and trade market.
