Phil Jackson and Stan Van Gundy Not Interested in Coaching the Brooklyn Nets

Before you get any ideas about high-profile replacements for the recently-fired Avery Johnson in Brooklyn, forget about Stan Van Gundy and Phil Jackson possibly taking the job. Neither one wants to coach the Nets. Per the Orlando Sentinel and NBA.com: “Former Magic coach Stan Van Gundy told me Thursday that he will pass on the suddenly vacant Brooklyn Nets’ head coaching job is it is offered. ‘I have zero interest in that job,’ Van Gundy said in a text message. [...] The longtime agent for Phil Jackson, Todd Musburger, said that Jackson is not interested in coaching the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets fired Avery Johnson Thursday morning. ‘Phil has no interest in the Nets job at this time,’ Musburger said via text. [...] Jackson, Musburger said earlier this year, was more interested in a management position similar to that of Pat Riley’s in Miami, where he could shape the front office and roster, and hire a coach that would be comfortable running the triangle offense that Jackson used to win 11 titles in Chicago and Los Angeles, making him the NBA’s all-time winner of championships, passing the legendary Red Auerbach.”

I knew phil would be out. I still want SVG and MVG to coach a team together. I know it’s unlikely, but I can dream.

and by MVG I meant JVG. I always want to call Jeff, Mike.

I can’t wait for the inevitable d will and jj riff. This thing is a mess and its the bk front offices fault. They panicked and now will have to deal with pj(no Phil Jackson) coaching this team for the foreseeable future.

    There should hire Mike Brown…

  • robb

who would want to deal with that “superstar” diva

Everybody already knows that Phil isn’t taking any job with a roster that doesn’t almost guarantee an NBA Finals appearance. I think this would be a good opportunity for Stan, but I guess he wants to take some time off. I’d holler at Jerry Sloan if I was Brooklyn, especially since Deron Williams misses him so much all of a sudden. Jeff Van Gundy would be my second option.

BLAME D WILL, i’m a fan of his game. But i think all the fame has gone to his head. that entire jar of wave kit grease he puts on his head proves it. wheres the humility lol

Sloan, Sloan, Sloan…it makes sense. D’Antoni + Nash Reunion, Why Not Sloan + DWill? Vote up!

I know…I hate when Jeff do the broadcasting jobs at many arenas…he sometimes is clueless about the things he say…Billy Crystal said Jeff “goes on and on and on and on” funny and true.

What about Bernie Bickernstaff? Im not sure if bernie is still sitting next to D’Antoni in LA….maybe he is, IDK, but he had the Lakers winning when he was an Interim coach. Mike Brown should get a call??

Seems like Dwill and Dhoward are playing “lets see who can fire the most coaches”

  • Ugh

    PJ’s roster requirements:
Centre who can pass, rebound and score: needs work on two of these fields.
Power forward who can rebound and get high % buckets: needs work on the latter
Small forward who hustles and is happy as #2 banana: check
Shooting guard who can spot-up and iso and score in high volume: check
Point who doesn’t handle the ball and spots up: bzzzt.
Bench veterans who shut up and do what they’re told: Stackhouse will, trade the rest.

  • Ugh

Yeah, seems very unlikely, doesn’t it?

  • roscoe

if mike woodson could be cloned that would make dwill happy bc he wants all the “MVP” attention melo has been getting.

the concrete on the other side of the river is not always cleaner dwill.

Phil and SVG are smart men. Who the hell jumps on a sinking ship. Let the staff that was on the ship battle the rough waters. Phil has a legacy to keep in tact. Don’t really know SVG’s reasoning but hey, I don’t blame ya lol

he is – Bernie Bickerstaff is still working for the Lakers that is.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Phil has brothers named Chuck and Joe.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he has only got one coach fired.

  • roscoe

just bc sloan (high-road) and the hype “says-so” does not make it true.

dwill has been the cause and the end of 2 coaches has been the effect.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you mean DWill has been involved with the “end of 2 coaches” — the Jerry Sloan thing had more to do with him personally not wanting to deal with disputes with player’s (which is extremely common, extremely).
either way, no matter how you see it, that doesn’t change the FACT that only one of his coaches have been fired. Ever.
