Chris Douglas-Roberts and Others Waived on Sunday

Several NBA players were given the boot by their teams yesterday, with Chris Douglas Roberts headlining the group: “The Mavericks on Sunday waived guard/forward Chris Douglas-Roberts, who had averaged 2.8 points in six games since being promoted from the D-League’s Texas Legends. Under the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, all contracts become guaranteed for players still on rosters as of 4 p.m. Monday.”

Lazar Hayward: “The Wolves waived Lazar Hayward, a day before contract become guaranteed for the season and teams can start signing free agents to 10-day contracts. The move is not at all unexpected.”

Samardo Samuels: “The Cleveland Cavaliers have waived forward Samardo Samuels, general manager Chris Grant announced Sunday, reducing their roster to 14 players, one below the maximum. NBA teams can start signing players to 10-day contracts on Monday.”

Maalik Wayns: “The 76ers released former Roman Catholic and Villanova star Maalik Wayns on Sunday. The move coincided with the 76ers recalling rookie forward Arnett Moultrie from their NBA Developmental League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Sixers roster stands at 13.”

Kris Joseph and Jarvis Varnado: “The Celtics had until 5 p.m. Monday to waive the two players they carried with nonguaranteed contracts, and they let go second-round pick Kris Joseph and recently signed Jarvis Varnado on Sunday night.”

Sam Young: “The Indiana Pacers waived forward Sam Young on Sunday. Young, the fourth-year player out of Pitt, was signed as a free agent by the Pacers in September. He played in 28 games and averaged 3.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.”

True…and from watching Jarvis @ MS State, he is a great shot-blocker and rebounder, and there are a lack of those in the NBA. And as for CDR, he was great against OKC…even with KD on him. Dude is a pretty crafty scorer in the lane as well.
