Deron Williams Says He’s Not an All-Star This Season

Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams has been forthcoming about his struggles all season long, and he admits that he doesn’t deserve to take part in the All-Star Game this year (even though his new coach, PJ Carlesimo, naturally disagrees.) Per the NY Post: “No,’ Williams said bluntly when asked if he was having an All-Star season. When asked to elaborate, he simply said, ‘I just think there’s people playing better than me.’ Since the calendar turned to 2013, Williams has been terrific, averaging 19.5 points, 8.3 assists and shooting almost 47 percent from the field heading into the game against Toronto in Brooklyn. For the season, he’s averaging 16.8 points and 7.7 assists, both of which would be his lowest totals since his second season in the league. The All-Star starters will be announced Thursday night on TNT, with Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo almost certainly set to be named as the Eastern Conference’s starting backcourt. Williams was third in the final round of voting results that were released to the public, but was well behind Rondo.”

I agree, and Jrue Holiday will happily take his place.
