Derrick Rose is Taking ‘Predictable Contact’ During Practices

Chicago Bulls superstar point guard Derrick Rose continues to chug along during his long, painful recovery from knee surgery. But, there is a growing light at the end of the tunnel — Rose can now begin to absorb some contact from his teammates in practice. The Bulls, understandably, continue to be extremely cautious with Rose’s return to the court despite his encouraging progress. Per the Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune: “Basically, he’s doing what we call predictable contact,’ coach Tom Thibodeau said. ‘Knowing what’s coming. So he’s handled that part great. He’s done a little one-on-one. That’s coming around, but everyone has to be patient. The next step will be a regular practice, and he hasn’t done that yet. Once he does that, then you know he’s getting closer.’ As far as a timetable on when that could take place, Thibodeau was adamant about not skipping steps. ‘We’ve got to feel good about this,’’ Thibodeau said. “The most important thing is he’s got to feel good about it. It’s the type of injury that you have to be patient, and he’s handling his part great. He’s upbeat, he’s doing his rehab daily, and that’s his entire focus.’ [...] Bulls general manager Gar Forman said Monday that clearing Rose for full contact in practice is the next step in his progression. That clearance is expected to come in the near future, especially after coach Tom Thibodeau said Rose has been fine with what he called ‘predictable contact.’ [...] ‘It’s exciting,’ Joakim Noah said. ‘We get to see the progress, knowing he’s going to come back. That’s a good feeling. But we need to give him as much time as he needs to come back 100 percent.’”

I expect at least 30-100 comments on this thread. It’s about Derrick Rose..this important to me guys.

    Ok..GO!

just tank the year and get a high draft pick, that way they’re better as a team next year, aside from letting rose rest.

D Rose is a competitor, if he can play he will play. You can’t re-wire someone like D Rose to even think of that being a possibility. Plus the whole Bulls team has pride, we should tank the year away now that we are currently seeded 4th? Tanking was NEVER an option!

I won’t be surprised if he comes back before the end of this month

I feel like Rose can afford to come back late February but it’s on him. Obviously the ideal return would be next season but I doubt that.

Sit ‘em….no need in rushing him. You can still easily make the playoffs without him, just bring him back in….he’s the ultimate chemistry guy, for some reason he only makes everyone around him better, even when he isn’t looking for the pass. You can bring him in anytime and have instant chemistry. Wait for the playoffs and then let him loose, on the league

just like what Portland did with Brandon Roy that one year when they almost took Dallas

I wonder what unpredictable contact must be like–someone coming up behind Derrick quietly and kicking him in the back of the knee?

  • spit hot fiyah

    predictable contact = mutombo elbow

  • JM

Yeah because luol deng and Noah won’t be flat out exhausted by then. They could kind of use a little weight taken off their shoulders.

    Ask Mike Beasy.

He’s been dunking for a while. I like how he’s progressing from what I’ve been reading. I think he’ll come back better than he was when he got hurt. Better shot, same explosiveness after a while, stronger, smarter player. Late February, early March.

@Red7252:disqus do you think the bulls should make a trade for Rudy Gay? And when D Rose comes back are we a top 3 seed in East for next year?

  • Redd

I intially found the Z-Bo trade interesting for us, getting him by trading Boozer & another piece. Rudy Gay? No, he’d take bad shots & get in the way of Rose & the development of our younger guys.

A healthy Rose next year? Yeah definitely top 3. I see Rose returning late February tho.

the more i read and hear what coachThibs says i think he is on his way to being a great coach.

what do the CHI players say about him?

  • roscoe

    can’t wait.

  • robb

I hope so. Adrian Peterson was amazing this year. I hope DRose can do the same and stay healthy.
