Houston Rockets Have Suspended Royce White

And the Royce White Saga continues. ESPN reports the Rockets have suspended the 6-8 rookie for “refusing to provide services” required by the contract he signed when he joined the team: “The Houston Rockets have suspended first-round pick Royce White for ‘refusing to provide services’ required by his contract. General manager Daryl Morey said Sunday that the team will continue to work with White in hopes of finding a resolution. Last week, White refused his assignment to Houston’s D-League affiliate. The 16th overall pick in the June draft has spent most of the season on Houston’s inactive list while he and the team figure out how to handle his anxiety disorder and overall mental health.”

Lets be real, there’s no way after years of playing to get to the NBA he’d not want to play and risk losing a great job. No one in the history has done that in this way. So, I think it’s obvious his mental blocks are a real issue.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRUS6QBiViQ Royce on Draft day… This illness is real. But let’s be realistic. Having this illness makes you unfit to play professional basketball, just like being 4 foot tall does. It’s just a shame in his case because he does have the physical attributes. I just don’t see this happening for him. Not hating or anything.

no one cares any more, it was interesting leading up to the draft

I felt bad for Royce, but dude is coming off as a douche on twitter

  • Redd

How? Lol he’s not coming off as a douche at all.

I agree. He’s almost acting like this is a regular job that he’s being discriminated against for because of his disability. playing pro ball is not a right.

Like Royce I’ve been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) so i understand his frustration but that didn’t stop me from playing High School and College Ball if anything basketball was my escape from the constant anxiety triggers ,although Royce has a compelling story i think he’s being a stubborn bull on this one.

agreed, he’s acting like a victim

    he’s losing his chance

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

this is the reason why many teams passed up on him

    not sure if serious, friend.

I don’t think anyone is disputing whether he really has an issue or not. Its definitely real, he just cannot expect any team to bend over backwards to accommodate him.

I feel like the rockets are trying their best to help him. He seems too picky. And calling out Daryl Morey on twitter isn’t a smart move

I’ll take the footsoldier over the capitalistic CEO every single time.

He signed a multi million dollar contract to play pro ball. A part of that job requires that you travel. If you can’t handle that, then you can’t play pro ball. Still, he accepted the money, knowing the situation. Face facts people. You can’t get from Sacramento to Miami by bus. This is just reality. This dude has an opportunity and he’s being a huge douchebag. I don’t have any sympathy for him whatsoever because if he was SO concerned with his condition, he would have stayed in school, gotten a degree, and chosen another profession like the rest of us. You took the money, Royce. Live up to what’s asked of you.

    I care.
