Lakers Reportedly May Consider Trading Dwight Howard Before the Deadline

As if things haven’t been ridiculous enough in L.A.,we now have a report via ESPN.com claiming that if the Lakers keep up with this losing business and decide they might lose Dwight Howard to free agency this summer, the troubled franchise may look to trade away the big man in the coming pre-deadline month or so. Some details: “The Los Angeles Lakers have consistently turned away trade inquiries in recent weeks for All-Star center Dwight Howard and still believe they have a strong chance of signing him to a new contract when Howard becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, according to sources close to the situation. But sources told ESPN.com this week that the Lakers might be forced to reconsider that position between now and the Feb. 21 trade deadline because of Howard’s growing unhappiness with his role under coach Mike D’Antoni and the potential that raises for Howard leaving them in July without compensation. Howard has not publicly indicated any desire to sign elsewhere when he becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1 and came to Los Angeles determined to succeed with a minimum amount of fuss after the hits he took image-wise during his drawn-out departure from the Orlando Magic. But sources say that Howard, as the Lakers’ struggles have mounted, has dropped hints within team circles about his discomfort in D’Antoni’s system and that he could consider moving on if things don’t improve or change.”

I think dwight+nash is a match made in heaven. But when you got a ball dominant SG its gonna be tough to get everyone involved. If everyone let Nash TRULY run the show, things would be quite different imo. But of course that ain’t gonna happen.

Is that what he said? I haven’t heard him explain it yet.

Kobe’s not changing. It’s tough for guys to play with him especially guys who also need the ball. He and Nash aren’t a great fit even though it looks good on paper and works well on PlayStation.

It’s tough to combine 2 ball dominant guards. But it can be done. Look at wade+lebron, then again kobes mindset isn’t gonna see that. But imo Kobe has earned/sacrificed himself enough to get the benefit of the doubt

Dwight: “Wilt Chamberlain wore a headband and scored a 100 points. I’m motivated by those people (pointing to Lakers retired jerseys).”

LeBron and Wade both have more dimensions to their game than Kobe does at this point. LeBron’s ball dominance results in a good shot 9 times out of 10 for him or a teammate since his first instinct is still to pass. Kobe has tried to get Dwight involved. But it’s not him. Nash needs shooters around him, not a ball stopper. He looks uncomfortable just like Dwight and Pau. Kobe’s going to shoot in any system so he’s not really affected. The biggest thing that’s getting to him now is that they’re losing and he’s working harder on offense than he’s supposed to on a team with 4 star players.
