Pau Gasol Won’t Seek A Trade

Pau Gasol’s 2-point, 4-rebound performance against the Clippers last night has everyone talking about Gasol’s seemingly lost role in the Lakers’ offense. All this has to be frustrating for Gasol, but he reiterated after the game that he doesn’t want to be traded just yet (via ESPN): “‘No, oh, that’s radical,’ Gasol said when asked whether he would request a trade following the Lakers’ 107-102 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday. ‘I still believe. I still have faith in what we have. I still have faith that I can be a big part in helping this team succeed. Right now, I’m not being able to do that very often.’ ‘It’s difficult sometimes because it’s not up to me to get involved,’ Gasol said. ‘I’m trying, but the times that I am at the elbows are the times that I get more involved and can make more plays from there, but it’s not consistent.’ Following the last time Gasol was benched in the fourth, a narrow Lakers win over the Charlotte Bobcats, Gasol met with D’Antoni for dinner to discuss how best to integrate him with the team. More than two weeks later, Gasol was not so sure things had changed since then. ‘I don’t like watching from the bench,’ Gasol said.”

Why do you keep callin this man “The Gimp” while trying to back him up?..

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange only refers to him as “The Gimp” because that’s how L.A. treats him. They scapegoat him for the team’s underperformance and whenever they lose, they call him from out of the basement and flog him.

  • shockexchange

If L.A. keeps getting whipped, causing Dwight “Rent-A-Center” Howard doesn’t re-sign, could you imagine the fall out?

This. Once you reach your goals, its difficult to muster up that hunger that you had when you hadn’t reached them. Only a select few (Jordan, Kobe, etc.) can will themselves year after year after year even AFTER achieving the goals they set out to achieve. Gasol has no goals left – he is a champion, an Olympian, an All-Star, gets a crapload of money every year, is etched in the history books, and yes, gets women (he’s also smart as f*ck).

He does not push himself as hard as he could anymore because he doesn’t have to. There’s nothing in it for him anymore. Does he care about winning? Sure. Does he cares as much as he used to in 2008? Absolutely not.

    A Trade will seek him.

    I believe that.
And referencing the hunger of Jordan, Kobe Bryant, etc., speaks volumes to what separates very good players from great players. Great players from the greatest players.
And we all marvel at Michael Jordan’s reputation for having to search for things to fuel his hunger. Things like that.
Jordan wanted to stay hungry. As difficult as it was. It would have been easy to not have stayed hungry.
Even Dirk Nowitzki. His fire seems to have dimmed after the Championship. Even if just a little
    Definitely agree with you.
