Pau Gasol Won’t Seek A Trade

Pau Gasol’s 2-point, 4-rebound performance against the Clippers last night has everyone talking about Gasol’s seemingly lost role in the Lakers’ offense. All this has to be frustrating for Gasol, but he reiterated after the game that he doesn’t want to be traded just yet (via ESPN): “‘No, oh, that’s radical,’ Gasol said when asked whether he would request a trade following the Lakers’ 107-102 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday. ‘I still believe. I still have faith in what we have. I still have faith that I can be a big part in helping this team succeed. Right now, I’m not being able to do that very often.’ ‘It’s difficult sometimes because it’s not up to me to get involved,’ Gasol said. ‘I’m trying, but the times that I am at the elbows are the times that I get more involved and can make more plays from there, but it’s not consistent.’ Following the last time Gasol was benched in the fourth, a narrow Lakers win over the Charlotte Bobcats, Gasol met with D’Antoni for dinner to discuss how best to integrate him with the team. More than two weeks later, Gasol was not so sure things had changed since then. ‘I don’t like watching from the bench,’ Gasol said.”

Demand a trade to the Kings. Throw everyone off lol

  • roscoe

actions (how you play) speak louder than words (word-smithed post game comments) Pau-ter…

  • zogs19994

    THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

A lot of this is on D’Antoni, but Pau has been pretty terrible even when he has the ball in the post as well.

  • Redd

He has no choice, he’s the annual scapegoat.

  • shockexchange

(Horry Jr voice) “Rats! We lost again. Bring out the Gimp.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

Pau is actually playing awful. Obviously he is not getting the ball where/when he would like but still…he looks bad

  • shockexchange

Contrast how the Gimp is playing now vs. how he played against Horry Jr and the USA this summer. Spain made the Gimp their first option and he in turn gave the USA fits, and was a times the best player on the floor. Poor teammates or a coach who makes you a third, fourth or fifth option can make a player look very bad. Horry Jr leads the L in shot attempts and is taking the second most FT’s of his career (almost 9), which means the Gimp and other players are getting frozen out. It’s partly the Gimp’s fault because he has to demand the rock. Take someone like Moses Malone; if he didn’t get the rock, Moses would have gone to somebody’s mouf.

  • spit hot fiyah

i have been a pau defender for long time, it’s getting harder by the day. but i like the fact that he said: No, oh, that’s radical

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

its beyond that. He’s broke now. Nor does he fit in the system. They need to trade him for whatever that they can get for him at this point.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

he’s had injuries all year. In fact he isnt healthy right now , either. Maybe he shouldnt have played in the Olympics, cuz he’s worn down. And its only gonna get worse as the season goes on. I think they gotta ship him out, cuz they’ve got too short a window of opportunity to be patient for Pau to get healthy

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

    OH DATS RADICAL

  • shockexchange

Players are going to get injured, part of the game. Yet, it’s silly to think that the Gimp / D12 at the same ____ time are gonna bang down low, play defense, block shots, grab boards, and run the floor and go 9, 10, 11 possessions in a row w/o taking a shot. Horry Jr doesn’t understand the “science of basketball.” You’ve got to feed the bigs to keep them engaged. If he had gone to college he’d know that. L.A. (i) misuses the Gimp / D12 at the same ____ time, and (ii) they don’t play a lick of defense. It doesn’t matter who L.A. trades the Gimp for, they are dysfunctional and fundamentally unsound. The Lakers are done.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

hey man, i agree that Kobe needs to pass more. You’ll get no argument from me there. That needs to be a Nash centric offence , not a Kobe centric offence. But in regards to Pau, he’s done. Injuries happen, very true. But the injuries that Pau has been getting are all from fatigue and cuz his body is breaking down. He’s gotta go.

  • roscoe

i’ve been a supporter of Pau-ter… he has done some great things in the game… his skill set is amazing… he is accomplished… probably a HOF-er…

But holy-sh*t! Pau-thetic has no heart whatsoever this year. he is embarrassing himself, Barcelona, LAL, tarnishing his resume, and the whole world for that matter. its a disgrace to hoop fans.

Pau-ter does not run the floor… does not rebound… does not play D…

no heart = no respect from roscoe.

he maybe softer than dwill’s combed forward bad hair style.

  • shockexchange

This is the first the Shock Exchange has heard about the Gimp’s body breaking down. I’m no doctor but the Shock Exchange think his body is breaking down from under use. If the Gimp never uses his shooting arm it may shrivel up like a dinosaur’s.

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange doesn’t disagree. However, the Gimp proved he was still an elite big man this summer for Spain. The reality is if big men don’t get the rock they aren’t going to be eager to rebound, play defense or run the floor. The best basketball players have a gangsta quality to them. When he goes 10, 11, 12 possessions in a row w/o getting the rock, the Gimp needs to go to somebody’s mouf.

  • roscoe

your point is valid… i just don’t like seeing his or anyone as talent as he is lacking effort.

imo pau is making the decision to play on an irrelevant team in the nba which will showcase him as a #1.

pau is headed to the deep dark abyss of the nba & meaningless games.

  • roscoe

    t-rex arms… lol

  • shockexchange

the t-rex’s arms shriveled up because he wasn’t using them. The Gimp is headed that way if he continues to only take 5 FGs/game.

  • shockexchange

Agreed. There is a pattern with the Lakers where as long as (i) Horry Jr is getting his 35 FGs/game and (ii) LA is winning then it’s all good. If one of those things doesn’t happen, somebody is gettin thrown under the bus; everybody except for Horry Jr is expendable. If you feel like you can’t win with L.A. it’s best not to re-sign because you control your own destiny and you don’t allow L.A. to ship you some place you don’t want to go. D12 is in this situation now. If he re-signs and the ship keeps sinking, they will trade him and it may be some place like Milwaukee, Sacramento or Mayberry USA.

  • Redd

You forget he was dominating while under the system with Mike Brown.

  • daBIZ

Not demanding a trade, at this point, takes heart. And professionalism. And loyalty. Based on ability, Pau is a top 20 player in the world! he deserves better than what he’s gotten from Dantoni.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

Gasol is not playing very well, even when the Lakers run possessions through him. He’s looked slow, lethargic, and lazy consistently (both O and D). I would love to see him in the post more (hence I was favoring Phil over D’Antoni), but he hasn’t made most of the opportunities he’s had in that area when he gets the ball. Gasol gets touches (as does Dwight) but when teams pack the paint Gasol is very quick to give the ball up, which often leads to a Kobe shot, since Kobe is who he passes to in the perimeter. Gasol looks to pass more than shoot, which is another reason for his low FG attempts.

If you’re giving it to your big man, and he backs down for a second and gives up the rock and sets a screen and moves further from the post (what Gasol usually does), its hard to give him “post touches”. Case in point, this is D’Antoni’s fault for underutilizing him, and Gasol’s fault for his lethargic play and propensity to often give up the ball even when he has it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

Dominating? Brown underutilized him just as much as D’Antoni is doing. He’d constantly have him playing near the 3 point line and essentially turned him into a stretch 4 spot up shooter. He shot the second worst shooting percentage of his career (50%) while putting up the most amount of shots in his career, and was worse in the playoffs.

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange is gon’ keep it one hunnerd … (i) the Gimp played well enough to help lead L.A. to two chips under Phil Jackson and (ii) he was ballin’ outta control for Spain this summer. The Gimp isn’t the problem.

  • Redd

I meant this year..he didnt have a proper training and practice with Brown because of the short season. He started this year off doing decent.

  • roscoe

dh12 could be damaged goods and may end up in the NBA north-40 regardless…

you’re right that kb24′s 35 shots a game is not meshing with this group if your assumption is correct that individual effort is directly correlated to plays or shots specifically for pau and or others.

kb24′s successful existence (i.e. title runs) depended on other players doing dirty work and putting forth energy like every other chip team. the real “robert horry” had issues with kb24 bc he was not too happy with all the effort he and his teammates put forth as kb24 jacked up shots and drove to the hoop out of the offense, but secretly i think pjax encouraged it.

so, LAL can (a) gets rid of kb24; which ain’t happening (b) team gets an attitude and effort adjustment (specifically pau) (c) trade pau (d) bench pau and let others that will hustle in the game.

my money is on (c) bc LAL is headed for the lux-tax Niagara falls.

  • roscoe

you can’t say he is not the problem if he is not giving he best effort… he is due his share of blame…

if he is truly hurt, then i will change my opinion, but i am sensing from body language, interviews, and effort he wants out of LA.

I wonder if vanessa bryant pulling the curtain back on pau’s womanizing ways and ending his relationship with a bride to be is still part of the equation for his BS play… we all know DAL swept LAL bc he was pau-ting.

  • roscoe

that’s a pretty good perspective GP

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

oh please. He was arguably struggling even more under Mike Brown, in a system that CATERED to his strenghts. In fact the only “decent” games he has had was after he returned from taking a handful of games off due to Knee Tendinitis(or whatever)…and he was playing under which coach? Coach D’aintoni. And what happened within DAYS after returning? BOOM, he has plantar fasciitis, another sign of too much wear and tear on his body, and of his age. Again, he’s getting old, he’s breaking down, its time for him to go to a system that caters him even better than the Princeton did i guess.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

and yes, im referring to this year.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

Well maybe u should listen to more people if this is the first u have heard. Within a few games of the season he had knee tendinitis. He struggled under Mike Brown is a system MADE for him(the princeton) before that. He returned after missing a handful of games, and had his only decent games of the season under D’AINTONI. Within days there are then reports of him having plantar fasciitis, another sign of his body breaking down. Another sign of him aging. This happens to old players, these types of consecutive injuries. This was twice within the first 10 games, and he’s been playing with that injury since. Im no doctor either…but come on.

  • shockexchange

LA management has a certain level of arrogance where they think it’s “the LA system” or “LA way” and that they can plug players in here or there and they are still going to win. Their competitive advantage is inside and they should use. But again, all of this is moot until they commit to playing defense. They simply can’t stop anybody.

  • shockexchange

Well the Gimp already made Shannon Brown disappear for his involvement or lack or involvement, as the case may be. What the Shock Exchange does know is that 6 FGs/game is not enough and the guy is not being utilized properly. However, it does make for great theater.

  • Otis

    That is kinda terrifying

  • roscoe

what about pau-ter filling the lane & grabbing a damn rebound… get out here w/ that “he deserves better”… the nba is a man’s world as KD and other cupcakes like pau-ter have a tough time grasping.

everything that means anything is earned, everything. why did pjax have to slap pau-thetic around? huh?

  • shockexchange

The Gimp looked healthy to the Shock Exchange when he was giving the business to USA bigs when he played for Spain this summer. Funny how being fed the ball on a regular basis improves a big man’s health.

  • The Philosopher

    He’s allegedly healthy, now.
    And he’s still not producing.
We have seen the best of Pau Gasol..
It is ok. Like Amar’e Stoudemire, he has had a good run. Won some championships. Is an Olympian.
Made some great money. Has been with beautiful women. (not everyone exalts in the loins of beautiful women)
    He has lived the dream.
It is difficult to stay hungry after all of that.
    For anyone.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

what are u talking about? he was healthy because he had an early summer before the olympics. He’s played through the summer in the olympics, came into the season tired, played a few games horribly in the princeton, shut it down due to knee tendinitis for a handful of games, came bak, played well, then had plantar fasciitis. His body is breaking down because he’s been doing to much, and because of his age. The Lakers cant afford to be patient with him to heal from his injuries, because at his age, u never know when another one is gonna pop out from. If that doesnt sound to u like a player in clear physical decline, i dont know what is going to. Maybe i should refer to the fact that he cant jump over a phonebook right now, and how he got rim blocked on dunk attempts against the sixers, or how about him disappearing for 2 years down the stretch prior to this one, even with the mighty Phil Jackson as his coach? It has nothing to do with his touches as much as it has to do with the fact that Pau is simply.not.the.same.

  • shockexchange

Of course the Gimp has plantar fascitis … the Lakers beat his feet after every loss. And if his body has broken down then why not try to move him instead of Bynum? Bottom line is whenever the Lakers lose they throw somebody under the bus – Shaq, Odom, Fish, Bynum and now the Gimp.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

They didnt try to move him instead of Bynum because the thought was that Gasol fit in with Steve Nash a lot better than Bynum would. On PAPER, was absolutely justified. They saw him playing in the Olympics, he was killing it. They expected THAT Gasol. Not the beat down shell of his former self which they received. Simple as that

  • justin05

Gasol seems to be declining at a fast rate. As a Lakers fan, it is hard to throw him under the bus since he helped the franchise accomplish so much but he is obviously not playing up to his usual standards. All those extra playoff and Olympic games through the years have taken a toll so I say sit him for a month or two and see how his body heals. At this rate the Lakers are just looking to make it in the playoffs. I don’t see us breaking past the 6 seed w/ or w/o Pau.

  • shockexchange

You’ve just made the Shock Exchange’s point. No one goes from being a “better fit than Bynum” and “a stud in the Olympics” to “broken down” in the course of 30 or so NBA games. As usual the spoiled, entitled Lakers fans are whining again about who you all need. You had the best team in the L with the Gimp / Andrew Bynum at the same ____ time, MWP, Odom, and Horrry Jr. Right now L.A. still has “exceptionally more talent than the rest of the L.” Quit your belly aching and tell Horry Jr to pound it inside to the bigs. The Shock Exchange hates to bust your bubble but there is no one else – THOR IS NOT AVAILABLE! The Shock Exchange checked already.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

no, ur missing my point. One does go from a stud in the olympics to broken down in the course of 30 NBA games. You are seeing it right now with Pau Gasol. It occurs when ur old, and have a body that is failing you. knee tendinitis, plantar faciitis, horrible stats regardless of the coach, whether it was Phil in his last year, Coach Brown or Coach d’aintoni. I dont understand how one can argue that he isnt getting a bit too old, and is in a clear decline. Done believe me? Ask how many teams are willing to trade for him right now, compared to a year ago when they were able to net paul for him… his abilities, and his trade value have BOTH nose dived. period. And hey, again, I KNOW Kobe shoots too much. Im not a Lakers an mind you, but i am quite possibly the biggest Nash fan u’ll meet. They need to run the offence through him, not Koe. Nash will pound it inside to the bigs. Dwight cant post up for his life, but Nash can get him looks off the pick and roll. But again, pau is done. I dont see what we are arguing here.

  • shockexchange

Seems like the only way to see what the true problem is – the Gimp or the system he’s in – is to move him to another team.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

that we can agree on. I wouldnt be surprised to see him more motivated on another team , as the 3rd option in a better fitting system though, even though he definitely isnt the same player, if he can give teh same production but a bit more effecient, that wud be pretty good for the team getting him-even though thats a far cry from the Pau of 09ish. But yeah, we’ll see shockexchange

  • shockexchange

L.A. will have gotten rid of Odom and the best front court in the L – the Gimp / Andrew Bynum at the same ____ time, while depending on D12 who remains unsigned.

  • roscoe

oh the pressure mounts on the LAL mgmt… and losing to LAC twice is the icing on the cake.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

u gotta realize though, they lose LO in an attempt to get Chris Paul. Stern vetoed it, and left Odom butthurt. You couldnt have expected them to stick with Odom, especially considering what he looked like in Dallas that year…that man was broken. Bynum for Dwight is a fine trade for the future. Pau is broken. Things happen the way they do, it just is what it is

  • christianbullen

Why do you keep callin this man “The Gimp” while trying to back him up?..

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange only refers to him as “The Gimp” because that’s how L.A. treats him. They scapegoat him for the team’s underperformance and whenever they lose, they call him from out of the basement and flog him.

  • shockexchange

If L.A. keeps getting whipped, causing Dwight “Rent-A-Center” Howard doesn’t re-sign, could you imagine the fall out?

  • http://www.facebook.com/trafalgar.law.146069 Traffy Law

2 pts 4 rb vs lac..why this team who has the 2 top bigman in the L want to match the running game of the clips the whole game.?

  • http://www.facebook.com/trafalgar.law.146069 Traffy Law

time for the fans and team to do the…..who’s to blame laker game.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

This. Once you reach your goals, its difficult to muster up that hunger that you had when you hadn’t reached them. Only a select few (Jordan, Kobe, etc.) can will themselves year after year after year even AFTER achieving the goals they set out to achieve. Gasol has no goals left – he is a champion, an Olympian, an All-Star, gets a crapload of money every year, is etched in the history books, and yes, gets women (he’s also smart as f*ck).

He does not push himself as hard as he could anymore because he doesn’t have to. There’s nothing in it for him anymore. Does he care about winning? Sure. Does he cares as much as he used to in 2008? Absolutely not.

  • AQWORD

    A Trade will seek him.

  • The Philosopher

    I believe that.
And referencing the hunger of Jordan, Kobe Bryant, etc., speaks volumes to what separates very good players from great players. Great players from the greatest players.
And we all marvel at Michael Jordan’s reputation for having to search for things to fuel his hunger. Things like that.
Jordan wanted to stay hungry. As difficult as it was. It would have been easy to not have stayed hungry.
Even Dirk Nowitzki. His fire seems to have dimmed after the Championship. Even if just a little
    Definitely agree with you.

  • Yi-Cheng Chen

haha. there can only be one… but not a combination, more like just one Kobe.
