Ray Allen Reportedly Felt Doc Rivers Liked Pierce, Garnett and Rondo More Than Him

Today’s Celtics-Heat game is being marketed as Ray Allen’s grand return to Boston, although plenty of C’s fans probably won’t be too excited to see him after the guard left their favorite squad and signed with the reigning champs down south. Well according to the Daily News, one of Allen’s gripes about his time in Boston was that he was fourth in Coach Doc Rivers’ pecking order, behind Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo: “The Celtics have given video tributes to the likes of Eddie House and Big Baby Davis when they returned with their new teams, so of course they will honor Ray Allen on Sunday when he comes back to TD Garden for the first time as a member of the Miami Heat. There will be a lot of smiling through gritted teeth on both sides. The Celtics were not happy that Allen defected to the rival Heat last summer as a free agent, while by the end of his time in Boston, Allen told close allies that he felt he ran fourth on Doc Rivers’ list of favorites, after Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo.”

i think it was harder to swallow that Avery Bradley was more valuable than him to the team at the end of last season

    Uncle Ray Ray seems bitter.

  • Caboose

The sad part was Bradley was outplaying him. Ray’s defense is…Nash-like.

Ray is as professional as they get but I don’t think his pride could take bradley starting over him.

  • M Cho

I miss those Ubuntu days when Ray didn’t talk sh*t about pecking order or being liked and just sacrificed for winning.

    “Allen told close allies”
Who? Who are these close allies? This isn’t real journalism. C’mon slam

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Who cares? He won a championship with them. He hit a lot of big shots for them. They look worse without him. He’s on the best team in the East regardless of what happened today. He played well today. The Celtics miss him. KG can be as tough on the outside as he wants, he misses him too. He and Pierce may be headed out of town soon now with Rondo tearing his ACL. No big deal.

i think he just wanted his friends to be happy for him. Afterall basketball is a business and Ray made a business move in his interest before someone used him as a bargaining chip. Maybe he figured his buddies would understand? Who wants to be in the twilight of their career playing for ainge? lmao #BusinessOverLoyalty

Ray get over yourself..i was just forgetting about this dude leaving Boston, and all the gripes, now it seems he is just reaching.

    Suck it up ray

Ray is absolutely correct. He should have been treated as an equal seeing that he’s a FUTURE HALL OF FAMER and part was part of the Big 4. Glenn Rivers however does not know how to MANAGE players and keep them happy, especially Hall of Famers like Ray.

  • None

Using Ray strictly as a jump shooter was only something that Glenn Rivers could do to destroy one of the best teams of all time.

  • None

Glen’s love for Pierce and hatred for Ray shows his true colors as a coach, instead of keeping them BOTH happy. Ray kept his mouth shut for 5 years with his role. Imagine if Pierce had to sacrifice as much? He would be crying to the media by year 1 lol

  • None

Look at the career numbers coming into Boston and Ray and Pierce are both about equal and on their way to being First Ballot HOF’s. Both averaged similar assists and both handled the ball a lot. Ray actually has fewer Turnovers in his career. Making ray run around screens every game for 5 years was ludicrous. Pierce and Ray should have rotated being 6th man with TOny Allen starting at SG or a SF for Defense. That gives the bench and team more DEPTH. But Glenn cares more about keeping Pierce happy then the team.
