Report: Cavs Are Saving Cap Space For Potential Run at LeBron James in 2014

Well, we’re sure fans in Cleveland will have zero opinions about this one. According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the Cavs are reluctant to use too much of their cap space these days, with the plan being to maintain enough money to potentially sign LeBron James to a max deal when he has the option to become a free agent in 2014: “Executives and agents around the league are convinced the Cavaliers won’t do anything to jeopardize their ability to sign a free agent to a max contract during the summer of 2014, when LeBron James can again become a free agent. As fans in Northeast Ohio continue to howl and remain divided about the possibility of his return, more and more people around the league believe there is a strong possibility James will indeed return to Cleveland after next season. The Cavs are well aware of this, too, and won’t take on a bad contract if it compromises their cap space in two years. That means any bad contract they would obtain in a potential trade would have to expire after next season. It doesn’t make a deal impossible, but it dramatically reduces the field — and it decreases the price the Cavs can command since their future obligations would be brief.”

pipe dreams.. so now when Lebron got a ring he can return to the desperate Cavs and enjoy the organisitions failures again!?

  • Max

If I’m Lebron there is now f*cking way I’m going back to Cleveland after what they all did.
    Burning jersey’s, Dan Gilbert,…

  • zogs19994

DAN GILBERT IS A FAKE WHINY LIL BlTCH

I can’t believe they still won’t let this ish go. Instead of concentrating on the reclaiming of their ex-superstar, they should build a team around Kyrie. That kid can ball.

  • dannyb

This is the biggest BS I have ever heard. No way would Lebron ever go back to Cleveland, and no way they would ever want him.

  • MZ

    LOL…that is all.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

stop being mean to my dad guys

  • Redd

False, Lebron has said so himself he’d go back.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

Obviously any team with Lebron is gonna have a chance to win a title, but it would not make the most sense in the world to team Lebron with a star point guard…he already plays point on half the possessions anyway! I don’t know what team he will be on or what the Heat will look like in 2 years, all I know is I really want to see him teamed with a dominant big man!

  • Redd

I think there’s a 95% chance. Lebron has said he wants to return and Kyrie & Lebron together? Ouch that’d be amazing. If Heat don’t resign Lebron I think my Bulls are the most likely to be a spot for him.

Just like Kobe, Lebron would want to play for the Bulls cause of Jordan(maybe Rose is a bonus). This is of course provided we have the cap.

  • Max

Read the first 4 words again.
I don’t see any reason why he would go if he’s going to go back tho.

  • lebronwadebosh631

    Lebron6wade3Bosh1

  • mike

Some of you people kill me with your post. I mean it was LeBron fault just as must as it was dan’s because it didnt work. Plus from a business point it makes perfect since for all parties involved. Up and coming star point guard, young unknown talent, cap space, and also a way to mend fences. Anything is possible.

  • lebronwadebosh631

this will NOT happen and kyrie irving would not sway him to come back hahaha come on

  • lebronwadebosh631

If cleveland is really tryin to save money for him they must be out of there god damn MINDS!

  • Redd

    First 4 words of?

Again he has himself said he would want to return..lol.

  • Max

    If I’m Lebron.
    I’m telling Cleveland.
    F*ck off.
    But I’m not.
And Lebron saying he would want to return, is something I don’t really understand.

  • Redd

So “if I’m Lebron there” are the 4 words?:|

Yeah for the most part it’s a bit odd but you have to remember Lebron still loves Cleveland and he seems to like Kyrie. I think Lebron is more of a loyal cat.

  • TV63

I know there has been speculation and from HIM, Lebron himself more than once. He just said he would seriously consider Cleveland ONLY if they are a contender team. Well , there you go being almost in last place; it AIN’T happening. So this story is a crock

  • TV63

Hello Max. Lebron pretty much did tell Cleveland to F’ Off on national TV

  • ME!! THAT’S WHO!

Well..signing the best player in the NBA to play with Kyrie is a start as far as building a team around him

the F*ckery in all this… BUT Kyrie & Bron.. plus this years lottery pic? not saying its gonna happen but hey its the NBA.. surprises happen here n there

  • hushabomb

Thats like getting back with your ex girlfriend because you had an awesome time in bed. You have already proven that the relationship didn’t work so why go back.
Cleveland, you have a star in the making in Uncle Drew so worry about who your gonna put around him and who you are gonna draft. LeBron is only gonna give you a short term success and not for the long term which is what you should be focusing on.

  • dustinmurphy

I can’t stand Lebron as much as the next guy, but anyone who wouldn’t take the best NBA player in the world on their favorite team is a moron. Plain and simple. I bet 99% of you haters will be wearing his Jersey in a couple years too. Goes to show just how many fake ass ppl we have around us. Go Cavs! Anything we can do to bring a championship to our team I’m all for it. You ppl simply are haters and don’t know b-ball

…and you all must have forgotten what Pat Riley must be thinking…obviously, he already has a plan to counter-offer this and sign him up quick…..Lebron has played with the idea of going back to Cavs because imagine, the way he left, he had the entire state of Ohio hating him, the level of hate was so unreal that is spread across the usa and thanks to the internet, I bet you Cavs fans in China were hating him also. He does play with the idea, cause #1 most likely he forgave and hoped to be forgiven for the way he left and #2, he is from akron. I just dont see him leaving after Pat bring in a healthy Oden or a better center and more pieces to keep the core together, to defend their 3rd title in 2014-15. (I say third because I think they will repeat this year, unless the Clippers beat them 4-2 in the 2013 NBA Finals) yes, that’s right….i say it first. Clippers will make the finals this year…look at their bench for miracles sake!!!

What they did??!! Hell you mean by that??? Worshiped him…made him rich beyond his wildest dreams…kissed his ass…and all they got in return is betrayal!!! He treated the city and the fans like $h**!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/DarknessXtreme Bradley Randleman

There is nothing loyal about Lebron…your statement about him loving Cleveland is false!! Google GQ interview Lebron James!!

  • http://twitter.com/DarknessXtreme Bradley Randleman

    I absolutely agree!!!

    omg

  • http://twitter.com/DarknessXtreme Bradley Randleman

It doesn’t matter if you have Michael Jordan on your team, if he doesn’t respect or want to play for your team, what good is he?? I say again google GQ interview Lebron James!!

  • http://twitter.com/DarknessXtreme Bradley Randleman

Kyrie is not a point guard in the traditional mold…he doesn’t set up teamates like say a Chris Paul!! The way Kyrie likes to shoot he would be fine with Lebron. That being said I still don’t want Miami’s sloppy seconds!!

  • bringbackthesonics

the new member of the Heat said he isn’t ruling out playing for the
Cavaliers again. “If there was an opportunity for me to return and those
fans welcome me back, that’d be a great story.”

from the same interview you just mentioned.

  • neaorin

No, the Cavs aren’t saving cap space for a run at LeBron. They are “saving” cap space because they don’t have any good players to spend it on. That’s because REALLY GOOD FREE AGENTS DON’T WANT TO SIGN IN CLEVELAND. This was true when LeBron was there and it’s certainly true now. So why throw your money away by overpaying for mediocre players who won’t make much of a difference anyway? The Cavs’ only chance at building contenders is via the draft, and that’s it.

LeBron coming back is a pipe dream, and I say that as a Cavs fan who didn’t burn any jerseys.

  • Mackenzie Kerridge

First of all, why would LeBron care about a max deal from the Cavaliers when he’s already made enough money to last a lifetime? It seems logical that he would sign somewhere he can continue to win games, not continue to collect monster paychecks.

  • http://twitter.com/RobertSalazar3 Robert Salazar

  • JML-G

Heat – Clippers finals… Illuminati makes this happen, it would be orgasm for eyes watching such bball

  • Max

Well, then you can ask; how loyal would he be to Miami?
And the first 4 words were actually “If I’m Lebron”. :)

  • kwamepooh

i dont see the problem. lebron is the best player and will be one of the all time greats. so of course i would try to get him.

  • Max

And when he left, he became Lechoke, Oh and Dan Gilbert’s letter.
Those are enough reasons for me to just say f*ck off Cleveland.

  • Max

Oh they would love him back, I’m pretty sure about that.

  • Max

    No Miami fan at all.
Dan Gilbert’s letter, is something that you don’t do for example.
And let me get this right; You hate Lebron, but you would love it if he joined you again?
    Weird.

  • RunNGun

LBJ taking his talents back to Cleveland? I’ll believe it when I see it. Back to you, Bob!

  • http://twitter.com/DarknessXtreme Bradley Randleman

He was winning games in Cleveland…I could see if the Cavs were getting knocked out in the first round. They were going deep into the playoffs every year…his last playoffs with the Cavs he simply gave up!!!

  • Uncle Spew

    “Healthy Greg Oden” <—- lol

  • Redd

Not as loyal as he would be to where it all began.

    I’m is 1 word friend.

  • Redd

    What Lego batman said

  • Max

    Ok, I didn’t know that.
Than act like it says I am.

  • Redd

Lol of course, it does say I am, sorry I read wrong.

  • Max

    So I’m is to words?
Man if I’m getting this wrong on my English exam imma be pissed. :)

  • ElyA

Lebron is messing them over and playing with their heads for what they did when he left. He’s giving them false hope.

  • Redd

No it isn’t, you said act like it says I am so I did lol.

  • Max

    Oh ok, gotcha.

  • fruizm

    lol

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he would be an idiot to go back to Cleveland.

  • Tony

I still have his jerseys and I wear them to the games still and I will be wearing them when he gets back!!! U guys will not be say anything when they start winning again!!! GO CAVS. GO HEAT GO LEBRON!!!!!! Lets go 2014

  • http://www.facebook.com/vernon.chiow Vernon Chiow

I do not agree with Bron coming back…we can get two solid FA’s for the cost of Bron…and one major factor is catching up with him…he is getting older now…..

  • JML-G

far more likely than signing is Lebron is that they wont get Lebron and Kyrie will leave to

  • JML-G

and wtf half of yall think he wont resign with Miami?! lets not forget he won a championship last season instead of not making playoffs (word to Lakers)

  • http://www.facebook.com/leroy.boyd Leroy Boyd

Wow that would turn the NBA on its ears Bron back to Cavland it will probably mean the destruction of the Heat because I believe that Bron leaves than Wade may decide that he wants to come home to Chicago and finish his career

  • joey

    lebron to lakers?

  • http://www.facebook.com/leroy.boyd Leroy Boyd

    Bradley,
Come on man Cleveland made him rich? Please any team that had that pick would have made him rich. Cleveland just happen to win the pick. If fact if teams like the Bulls, Knicks, Lakers, or even Boston had gotten Bron he would have made way ,more money playing for them than he did in Cleveland.
Furthermore he made more money for Cleveland than they had ever made so the money trail goes both ways.

  • http://www.facebook.com/leroy.boyd Leroy Boyd

    Underdog
How would it look with the Cavs having both Erving and Bron?

  • http://www.facebook.com/leroy.boyd Leroy Boyd

    Dustin
    Lol man so true

  • http://www.facebook.com/leroy.boyd Leroy Boyd

Bradley mentioning MJ in the same sentence with Bron why?

  • Lebron James

Get over it Cleveland, I’m not coming back.

  • Rob Nabakowski

No, he doesn’t love an amorphous blob named Cleveland. He loves an amorphous blob named Akron. He’s loyal to humans, not organizations.

  • papaguzy

NO WAY…..F DAN GILBERT. ….HE IS SELFISH..After all that talk. …Never…..All them Cleveland fans treating him like he garbage…disrespecting his mom….NEVER…Stay true to your heart..LBJ WILL BE MY NUMBER ONE PLAYER WHERE EVER HE GOES….♥

  • Ken

If the fans want him back then they are just crazy. He would come back but for a boat load of money……oh wait, it never is the money…right !!!

  • Josh

Lebron should never ever consider that direction. The things Cleveland did displayed their true color of their heart. The burning of the jersey, removal of all signs of Lebron , his name was stricken as Moses was in the Bible…and I would be thankful and continue to donate to funds in Cleveland, but he should stand on his morals and not be wooed by the dollar, cause they doggone sho dont care bout him as a person..The Love is here baby in the MIA

  • Josh

Flash Cleveland did’nt make Lebron , Lebron made Cleveland

  • Kobron

You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve lived in both Cleveland (saw Lebron play many times) and Miami (before Lebron) and Cleveland is nothing but a wasteland. Lebron would have to be out of his mind to want to live in the mistake by the lake, especially after the response to his leaving. Lebron was being diplomatic when he said he wouldn’t rule a return out. Why would anyone with options trade in heaven, Miami Beach, to hell, cold gray ass Cleveland?! LMAO

  • bill

Which, of course, has nothing to do with what Max wrote in his post.

    You’ll get it…maybe.

  • Winz305

No way he leaves a organization that will contend for a championship EVERY year to go to a organization that don’t know how to build a team. Once 3-0-5, ALWAYS 305!!!
(for the idiots that don’t know, 305=Miami)

  • Wes

As far as Im concerned getting Lebron back would be a good move.

  • Anon

Because burning a jersey and writing a letter is worse than leaving a franchise hanging so they can’t sign free agents because you want to have a tv show to tell the world who you want to play for next year.. What makes you think Cleveland wants him back

  • jgill

He spends his off season there, his family is there, he said it to appease Cleveland, not because he meant it. Dan Gilbert said some nasty things after he left for Miami 0% chance he goes back,

  • http://www.facebook.com/randlemanb Bradley Randleman

I mention MJ because people think because you have great player on your team, you are championship bound. But if that great player doesn’t respect your city or your team you probably won’t get 100% out of him…be it MJ or Lebron or whoever.

  • Max

I’m pretty goddamn sure that his former fans would come back crawling and sit on his d*ck again.
    Winning solves everything my man.
Do you really think they’ll be like: hell no Lebron you’re not joining our team again because we love losing?

  • http://www.facebook.com/randlemanb Bradley Randleman

You are absolutely right…but my point is people act like the Cavs mistreated Lebron…it was the complete opposite. Lebron simply could not get any players of significance to come to the Cavs…so he figures “no one respects Cleveland…why should I”?? Hence showing up at Indians games with NY Yankee outfit on. Going to Browns games rooting for the Cowboys. He went out of his way to show the world he didn’t a s**** about Cleveland!! He hasnt done any of those things in Miami!!! F*** Lebron!!!

  • http://twitter.com/raw216 LeBraun

He’ll be back in Cleveland. He knows Kyrie is next in line to take over the league.

  • http://twitter.com/raw216 LeBraun

Dan said what he needed to and should’ve said about lebron. With that being said…welcome home!

  • http://twitter.com/raw216 LeBraun

I have..and I’ll tell him there’s nothing but old people, illegal aliens, and murders

  • http://www.facebook.com/britton.george Britton George

Lebron is such a hypocrite. Says he loves Cleveland and would love to return one minute and then later on in a GQ interview he says nothing but bad things about Cleveland. I don’t want him back after the black eye he gave the city when team management did everything they could to make him happy on such a small market budget before he left. Remember Cleveland is not the big market clubs of the Knicks or Lakers. People seem to forget that.

  • http://twitter.com/DeldavenportF Delano F. Davenport

i think this is good and irving wants to play with him

  • http://twitter.com/DeldavenportF Delano F. Davenport

i think its time for him to come home

  • Newts4thWife

    You mean:
*the burning of ONE jersey by a fan no doubt egged on by the nearby cameraman.
*they’re supposed to keep signs up of a guy who no longer plays for that team?
*”stand on his morals”–would that include his two illegitimate kids?

He goes on national TV (while not having the guts to call his former team about “The Decision”) and sticks it up the ass of the city that supported for seven years. Gee, I guess Cleveland should have held a parade for him after he left.

  • Detroiter

Didn’t he promise Miami fans 6 or 7 rings???

  • http://www.facebook.com/randlemanb Bradley Randleman

    Cleveland fans were “humans”.

  • http://www.facebook.com/randlemanb Bradley Randleman

I say the true measure of a man is how he reacts to adversity….when things didn’t go his way, he bailed!! He had a chance to do what hadn’t ever been done…bring a championship to his home state. Instead he chose to help someone else he admired win his second championship…for THAT persons team. Cowardice in it’s truest form!! Furthermore let me say this…Lebron will most certainly go down as one of the greatest players ever..top five but, after the cowardice he showed Cleveland and then pretended he was so happy to win for someone else’s team, f*** Lebron!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/randlemanb Bradley Randleman

One more thing…I figure this is being discussed because maybe Lebron is more of a man than I am giving him credit for…he KNOWS that was a punk move and he wants to redeem his ego…if he would admit that, I could try to respect him as a man.

  • http://www.facebook.com/randlemanb Bradley Randleman

And you just ignore everything else he said in the interview huh?? He only said what you quoted because of the startling hate he was receiving from everyone at that time…I haven’t forgotten!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/randlemanb Bradley Randleman

It’s called integrity…someone rapes your mom, do you forgive them because he visits her in the hospital?? I know bad example…but not that far off to me!!!

Top five all time? Hardly. MJ, Dr. J, Magic, Bird, Russell, Kobe. He’s got a long way to go to break into that list. He’s not even a leader yet. He’s just talented. The greats have more than talent. Lebron is way weak compared to anyone on that list. He whines, he flops, plays dirty.
