Report: Cavs Are Saving Cap Space For Potential Run at LeBron James in 2014


Well, we’re sure fans in Cleveland will have zero opinions about this one. According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the Cavs are reluctant to use too much of their cap space these days, with the plan being to maintain enough money to potentially sign LeBron James to a max deal when he has the option to become a free agent in 2014: “Executives and agents around the league are convinced the Cavaliers won’t do anything to jeopardize their ability to sign a free agent to a max contract during the summer of 2014, when LeBron James can again become a free agent. As fans in Northeast Ohio continue to howl and remain divided about the possibility of his return, more and more people around the league believe there is a strong possibility James will indeed return to Cleveland after next season. The Cavs are well aware of this, too, and won’t take on a bad contract if it compromises their cap space in two years. That means any bad contract they would obtain in a potential trade would have to expire after next season. It doesn’t make a deal impossible, but it dramatically reduces the field — and it decreases the price the Cavs can command since their future obligations would be brief.”

    Obviously any team with Lebron is gonna have a chance to win a title, but it would not make the most sense in the world to team Lebron with a star point guard…he already plays point on half the possessions anyway! I don’t know what team he will be on or what the Heat will look like in 2 years, all I know is I really want to see him teamed with a dominant big man!

    I think there’s a 95% chance. Lebron has said he wants to return and Kyrie & Lebron together? Ouch that’d be amazing. If Heat don’t resign Lebron I think my Bulls are the most likely to be a spot for him.

    Just like Kobe, Lebron would want to play for the Bulls cause of Jordan(maybe Rose is a bonus). This is of course provided we have the cap.

    Cleveland, you have a star in the making in Uncle Drew so worry about who your gonna put around him and who you are gonna draft. LeBron is only gonna give you a short term success and not for the long term which is what you should be focusing on.

He does play with the idea, cause #1 most likely he forgave and hoped to be forgiven for the way he left and #2, he is from akron.     Kyrie is not a point guard in the traditional mold…he doesn’t set up teamates like say a Chris Paul!! The way Kyrie likes to shoot he would be fine with Lebron. That being said I still don’t want Miami’s sloppy seconds!!

    No, the Cavs aren’t saving cap space for a run at LeBron. They are “saving” cap space because they don’t have any good players to spend it on. That’s because REALLY GOOD FREE AGENTS DON’T WANT TO SIGN IN CLEVELAND. This was true when LeBron was there and it’s certainly true now. So why throw your money away by overpaying for mediocre players who won’t make much of a difference anyway? The Cavs’ only chance at building contenders is via the draft, and that’s it.

    LeBron coming back is a pipe dream, and I say that as a Cavs fan who didn’t burn any jerseys.
