Stan Van Gundy: Odds of Lakers Retaining Dwight Howard ’50-50 or Worse’

Dwight Howard trade rumors are emerging, as the Lakers fear they may lose their All-Star center to free agency this summer. Howard’s former coach, Stan Van Gundy, sees the chances of Howard remaining a Laker after this season as no more than a 50-50 proposition. From ESPN Radio 1080 in Orlando: “‘I asked Stan Van Gundy if he thinks Dwight Howard will be wearing a Lakers jersey by the end of the season: “That’s going to be an interesting thing,” Van Gundy said. “I think they will keep him for the rest of the year. I think they still think they’ve got a lot to offer and can re-sign him. So, I think he’ll be there for the rest of the year, but I think it’s ’50-50′ or maybe even worse odds for the Lakers that they can retain him at the end of the year and if they realize that, you could see them make a move at the trading deadline.”’

Dwightmare will never end unless Disneyland gets an NBA team – Dwight will be the Goofy of the team

let’s just ignore his upcoming free agency until the playoffs start, since that is when the lakers’ season will be over

  • Caboose

Magic get: Dwight Howard, Jason Richardson, Earl Clark, Chris Duhon
Lakers get: Andrew Bynum, Josh McRoberts
76ers get: Andre Iguodala, Nikola Vucevic, Moe Harkless
Nuggets get: Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington
I think this trade works best. It literally makes EVERY team involved better.

    lmao

  • Caboose

It’s funny though: every team involved in the Dwight trade ended up worse than when they started. ALL FOUR.

  • shutup

LMFAO You happy now Lakers fans?????

well Lakers wud not have had Bynum playing at all, and as a result wud have had Sacre starting at Centre…so i wud still say they got the better end of that deal lol.

Like this guy is really close to Dwight and knows of his thinking…right?

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Or Gasol would be playing the 5 and Jamison or Clark would be at the 4. Not that bad.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

They still communicate. He was around Dwight for years. He knows his tendencies.

not to start the year, no. Clark wudnt have been given a chance at all had it not been thanks to injuries.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Jamison at the 4 to start the year would have been fine. He can spread the floor and hit shots much better than Clark.

  • Seth

    Perfect.

  • shockexchange

    A de facto co-sign, for Shockadamus …

  • Dacre

Caboose with the rewind trade.. . . Nice. You know nash and earl Clark back in PHX and they are probably back at the 8th seed 0-0 . . .

  • shockexchange

It would be epic if D12 re-signed with Orlando now that they have the pieces around him to (i) go deep into the playoffs and (ii) attract quality free agents.

And Dwight is gonna confide in him after SVG totally exposed him to the media once already? lol, fat chance.

ur still impying that an unplayable Bynum is better than a Dwight Howard at about 80%(for the Lakers). i dont buy it, lol

  • lex

they have nothing to fear dwights loyal right ?

  • lex

they got nothing to fear Dwights loyal right?

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

I’m implying that a 30 plus minute a game Gasol at the 5 is better than an unhappy, unhealthy Dwight.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Dwight doesn’t have to confide in him. SVG knows how shaky his mindset is. Chances are great Dwight still can be easily influenced and will have trouble again making a decision.
