Tracy McGrady Denies That Kobe Bryant Beat Him in 1-on-1

Kobe Bryant told the world in a hilarious interview that he “cooked” and “roasted” Tracy McGrady during one-on-one battles when they were both young players. McGrady tweeted from China that the matchups with Bryant never took place. Someone’s lying here …: “LOL Hell no! That’s far from the truth. No one in the NBA is playing 1 on 1. Me and KB never went to Germany together either.”

someone please do their investigative research and see whether Kobe and TMac were ever in Germany at the same time, and report back to SLAM asap.

  • Max

    Allright Officer pposse.

  • what

They never played one on one but both of them ran a train on Manti Te’o's girlfriend.

Old man Mac trying to save face..

  • spit hot fiyah

one of them is straight up lying

  • ChosenOne

Still, Kobe would roast him no question. T-Mac’s defense and work ethic was poor!

Hell if some one asked me right now if Kobe roasted me one on one, I’d say no…and I’ve came no where near playing professionally.

  • german

I think t-mac is lying. I don’t think kobe would make up such a lie when he is still so and knows reporters are going to be all over this.

  • german

I think t-mac is lying. I don’t think kobe would make up such a big lie. Kobe is still at the top of his game and knows reporters would be all over this story.

  • Dagger

I don’t know who’s lying, but it’s important to remember that Kobe is talking about when he was 20 and Tmac was 19. At the time Tmac was averaging 9 PPG for the Raptors, but Kobe was at nearly 20 PPG for the Lakers. In other words, Kobe was ahead of Tmac in his development, but Tmac was younger and neither player was close to his prime. If they played 1 on 1 then, I can see Kobe winning easily.

But at the top of his game in Orlando, T-mac was one of the most productive offensive players ever. He had an amazing handle, an unstoppable shot and would have had a size advantage over Kobe. If Kobe and Tmac played in their primes, I still see Kobe winning, but it would be close.

Somewhere, Kobe is laughing his a*s off at starting all this.

  • fruizm

whats the big deal on that Te’o story. I dont live in the US but Im in the US right now, and all I see in the news is that stupid story.

  • pposse

the guy had an internet gf whom he never met, she had cancer, then she mysteriously died the same week as his grandma, he told the press that his gf died, but never went to her funeral, gave flowers, or anything normal that a loved one would do..but then magically the girl came back to life on twitter. The conspiracy theory is that he was using the story to get sympathy votes for the heismann tropy (as he was the runner up)..but he is saying that he was hoaxed and got catfished (like that show on mtv)

They are probably both lying. I can see them playing during some down time on an exhibition tour, but I don’t see Kobe smoking TMac the way he says. Maybe TMac was just playing around and Kobe was going hard. Either way there has to be some record of this trip if it really happened.

  • theDankerNuggets

hahaha I was waiting for him to come out and say this

  • LWI

T-Mac just hit a game winner in China a day or two ago. Obviously the competition isn’t all that great, but he’s been healthy and playing well. He can sign with an NBA team after the league is done in March. A few teams could use him come playoff time…

  • cecil

one of them is already a known liar so…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

they definitely never went to Germany together lol

  • tomtom

How could you possibly know this?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    because i know everything.

    and this,

    Tracy McGrady

    - Hell no! That’s far from the truth. No one in the NBA is playing 1 on 1. Me and KB never went to Germany together either..

Kobe said he had nothing to do with SHAQ leaving too

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

    Spot on. 2002/2003 Kobe vs. 2002/2003 T-Mac!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

I don’t know why anyone expected TMac to be just like “hell yeah I got roasted!”

  • Noynoy
  • str8 from samoa

kobe is all shat. tmac skooled him in those days. even iverson did too haha

  • Noynoy

Oh yeah check this pic and the article before you talk smack dummo

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Junior-Taylor/100003121138419 Junior Taylor

I have a hard time believing that Kobe “smoked” Mac, so I’m with Mac on this one.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

neither the pic, nor the article, say they went to Germany together. Or prove that they did. It just proves they all represented Adidas, and at one point, were both in Germany.
Kobe, so specifically remember’s their one on one games that he remembers the scores, and that McGrady quit as a 20 year old, with “back spasms” —- sounds highly fantastical and speculative.
i believe they probably did play basketball in Germany, but I don’t believe the whole one on one story Kobe presented. Especially consdering i don’t believe McGrady is the type of person to play a series 3-game one on one series against Kobe. Not that I think he’s wrong about what the results would have been like tho.

  • MadeInTheD

Kobe once said he scored 60 points in a game when he was 6. Kobe is known to have a big ego and doesnt care about reporters so im with t-mac on this one

  • Kato Williams

In theirs respective primes I’d take T-mac 1 v 1. He was the most talented player I’ve seen. Better ballhandling ability, more length. better range, more athletic, etc. These are all important for 1 v 1.

Plus, McGrady usually stifled Kobe during matchups.

I believe that story when i die, and come back to life as michael jordan’s nephew

  • http://www.facebook.com/natgeo02 Neitel Agosto

He is… both were “with that other sneaker company” at one time….shoot, at one time it was kobe with them Crazy 8′s, after kobe left and went with nike, does anyone remember 3 figures that ran with the 3 stripes? T’Mac, Garnett and Duncan. It had to have happened…his is lying all the way from china.

  • http://www.facebook.com/natgeo02 Neitel Agosto

Why would Iverson make someone fall in China? Can a team please sign him already so he can make defenders fall in the USA….If Nash, Kidd, G.Hill33 and Kurt Thomas are still playing, why not I3?? Shoot, the Knicks just picked up Priggioni and Sheed!!! two 36 year old’s! Commmmmmonnn NBA Teams!!!

  • The Seed

This is true, go research it. Also T-Mac needs some attention, Kobe made him relevant again. Maybe in China T-Mac can get out of the 1st round. One of the biggest ball hogs ever T-Mac. Also Kobe has no reason to lie, why would Kobe lie. Really think about it. Who has more to lose, T-Mac fans and him. BOOK IT!!

  • str8 from samoa

im talkin about the NBA u kaka so dont bots it haha

  • phi slamma

you are spaving man its about chemistry as well AI just fucks up team chemistry totally not worth it

  • ENDS

TMac was 21/22 When he came to the Magic and hit his stride then

  • Jimbo bob

Kobe is a flat out liar.

  • Ei_Ehm

I think Kobe’s lying. The guy seems delusional enough. Although, McGrady does have that retarded look on his face all the time.

  • Allen Speller II

Research and actually being at the location is a different story. Better known as rumors

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

you say that because of t-mac’s eye. But in reality he just made it look too easy

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Tmac wins no question, Kobe’s intensity and commitment to defense was more shown later on in his career than during the laker with shaq
