Former Bulls Deny Jay Williams’ Claim of Weed Smoking Prior to Games

Jay Williams was beautifully profiled by the NY Times over the weekend, and the story contained all types of stunning details. According to Williams, whose NBA career was cut short due to a motorcyle accident, some of his former teammates in Chicago used to smoke up before playing in games. Unsurprisingly, a few members of the 2002-03 Bulls stood up and refuted the claim. Per the NY Daily News and Chicago Tribune: “Nah, I don’t know why he would say something like that,’ Tyson Chandler said. ‘I think that’s ridiculous that he would come out and say something like that,’ Chandler went on. ‘I don’t remember that, to be honest with you. And, it’s just unfortunate that he would make that kind of statement about our team.’ [...] ‘I didn’t know how to handle it at first,’ Jay Williams said in the report. ‘I didn’t know how to be around it. Guys were on the bench, trying to kick it to girls in the stands, having ball boys run over. I mean, some guys were high.’ Asked to explain what he meant, he said: ‘There were guys smoking weed before games. Guys asking in the middle of the game, ‘Do you smell popcorn.’ [...] ‘I like Jay, but when you make blanket statements, you incriminate everyone,’ said Rick Brunson, currently a Bobcats assistant coach. ‘You have to look in the mirror first: ‘Did I contribute to some of those things?’ Your career didn’t go the way it should’ve gone. Let it go. You’re doing a great job on ESPN. You should be honored and blessed the Bulls paid you.’ [...] ‘My thing is, why say these things now?’ said Donyell Marshall, one of the team leaders from 2002-03. ‘You don’t need to be making people assume. You’re messing up situations for other people. Now, instead of Fred (Hoiberg, coach of Iowa State) focusing on the NCAA tournament or whatever, he’s got to deal with that (crap).’ According to a league spokesman, the NBA had marijuana testing in place during the 2002-03 season.”

You don’t think you’re getting overly upset at comments on the net from a complete stranger? Going so far as to talk about a dude’s family shows that you’re far too emotional for any discussion on a basketball website.

I think quite a few regulars here are morons of the highest order but getting this personal over something so silly is taking it a bit far, no?

The day you grow up, is the day you realize you can’t judge a person as a person unless you know them intimately. And making personal attacks at them in any other context reflects more poorly on yourself then your opinion does on them. It’s different them judging knowledge/experience/intelligence. I don’t care how you feel about my opinion, and would hold no grudges against you for your opinion of me from what I actually do show – but bringing up a persons personal life that has absolutely nothing to do with anything here is completely different. It shows that you are sensitive and childish. And I have not once said something to you that wasn’t honest. If I felt you said something stupid, I told you so. If you were being stupid I told you so. Now, you doing this, you are a stupid person. And as you may have figured out, I don’t much value the opinion of people that are stupid. So in essence, all you are doing is eliciting me to call you stupid repeatedly, while not actually accomplishing angering me but rather enabling me to waste time while I’m bored. Gotta go, games back on.

i have endured mr. nbk call me stupid, genius, foolish, naive, dumbf*ck, idiot, woman in one thread in one day alone. Every other time i write something on this site the guy wants to troll me. But I shouldn’t take none of those jabs as personal tho right?

Not to mention the fact, this all stemmed from one question that i asked YOU and not him in regards to PED’s. I asked, how PED’s or HGH help perform better in basketball…and then all of a sudden the flood gates open. I even pasted a recent article about an ESPN blogger (someone who gets paid to write) who was not aware until 4 months ago that PED’s could help a BASKETBALL player; like my thought process about PED and its effects/ my perceived non effects on a bball player was so foreign. Silly me. NBK took exception to my question (like always) and so i hit him with some truth, the guy has been begging for it for quite some time now (from me).

  • pposse

u dont value the opinion of anyone unless they agree %1,000 with you! thats why you resort to name calling. You callin pposse ‘stupid’ before, now or in the future is cause pposse doesnt agree with you slim, not cause of something he told you just now.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    False. Cute fallacy dummy.

  • pposse

good you stopped with your five paragraph responses, i knew id teach u something young in

  • cal973

reggie evans and d12 are both STRONG AS HELL. d12cant shoot free throws and evans cant make a shot if its not a layup. so AGAIN how does hgh help???

  • Juan Gotti

    Who tf is “Courie”???… lmao

  • Lorne

Are you slow or are you being sarcastic? Who said anything about hand eye coordination, genius? You have never played competitive basketball ever in your life if you think shooting is the only aspect of being a successful basketball player. Are you saying there is no way Howard and Evan could be taking PEDS because they are big and strong, the very things PEDS help with the most?

  • Lorne

Reading comprehension issues smfh. They have RANGE they do not have AIM. Do you understand the difference? Range reqires strength; aim requires coordination.

  • Happy

Smh. Okay I’ll attempt to break this down to you even further.

J.J Redick and Dwayne Wade are both 6’4” shooting guards.

J.J Redick is an excellent shooter. Dwayne Wade is average.

Dwayne Wade’s range is probably equal to Redick’s because he is strong. Wade’s ACCURACY is INFERIOR to Redick’s.

Dwayne Wade is a better basketball player with a better career. Why?

Wade is stronger, faster, and way more athletic. Not saying that he is using PEDs, but if they make a player bigger stronger and faster, why wouldn’t PEDs help a basketball player? In what world is being bigger and stronger a non-factor in basketball success?

That Henry Abbot article is a story from YEARS ago you idiot..
    .
you got some real b*tch traits you know that right? complaining about me replying while talking sh*t about me to someone else at the same time. and the only thing you hit me with, and are now hitting anybody else with, is a big dose of stupid. The PED question was a dumb question, and thus, you were told so. Cry about it all you want, doesn’t change that it’s a dumb question. It’s like asking how playing in sneakers is better than playing in flip flops. it’s that level of stupid.

  • pposse

but the story was written 4 months ago.

The guy asked me a question in a feeble attempt to defend you and your trollful ways, so i answered his question and he shut up, cause just like me he probably sees right thru you and your ways.

You suck at life son, stop talking to me.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

the story was written 4 months ago, about something he thought years ago. and he still felt like an idiot for not thinking they would help. which does mean, literally, he thinks it’s stupid to not realize they help.
    .
and the guy asked you a rhetorical question you weren’t supposed to answer dummy. no reason for him to reply to you when he didn’t want you to answer him anyway.
    .
and replying to someone, and then saying stop talking to me, is a clear sign of your incompetence. if you don’t want me to reply, then IGNORE me. stop proving you are sensitive and dumb, and just walk away. if you are such a smart, mature, guy.
    .
    slim.

    .

  • pposse

no, Happy asked me two questions in fact, and I answered them.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    - “You don’t think you’re getting overly upset at comments on the net from a complete stranger?”

    - “I think quite a few regulars here are morons of the highest order but getting this personal over something so silly is taking it a bit far, no?”

    .
He opened his statement with the same question as he ended it. He just worded it different. And he did it like that to make his point, because it was rhetorical. Ask @disqus_XoSVHCOtso:disqus if that’s what he was doing if you are confused. if i’m wrong, i will happily admit it.

  • pposse

PUN i like what you did there, but No i won’t ask him that, i dont need to. As your very own words go “Say what you mean. Don’t imply it. That’s the first rule in not expressing your feelings like a woman.”

If he didn’t mean to ask me a question then I guess he expresses his feelings like a woman, you don’t want to find that out now do you??

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

IT’S A RHETORICAL QUESTION. He isn’t implying what he means, he is trying to get you to ask yourself that question. Not to answer it.

    .

He clearly feels like that’s crossing the line dumbass. It’s why he said, “getting this personal over something so silly is taking it a bit far, no?” – you see the “no?” right? the no shows how he feels, and it begs you to ask yourself the question. He isn’t implying his feelings, he is showing them.

  • pposse

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=409Pjtq7jzY

Marlo describes your problem perfectly. Take 30 seconds out your day and watch the video.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

nah, that would be a waste of time. i already told you i think you are stupid. and i already told you i don’t value your opinion. why would i watch a video that implies your dumbass opinion, like that is any different?

  • pposse

then dont, suit yourself. Your illustrious example of “the no shows how he feels” is innaccurate. it should be ‘the no implies how he feels’, but you want it to be one way, you want to be one way, you want it to be one way…but its the other way

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Correct. I incorrectly used implied in the first place. You didn’t imply what you meant. You just ignorantly tried to and failed. Because if you did imply what you meant by showing that link, you would be implying you feel like an idiot for asking that question (as that is LITERALLY what Henry Abbot said in that article). Which you obviously don’t feel. So that’s my fault for incorrectly and ignorantly misusing imply. That was stupid of me.

  • initbruv

Dude you got manhandled on this thread. Rough.

  • cal973

EXACTLY. people are trying SO HARD to sound smart that they are not reading your question. they are answering questions that you DIDNT EVEN ASK!!!

  • Szaface

Nba need to tighten there drug testing. It’s fact that steroids will make you stronger and heal quicker. Why do you think it’s banned in the Olympics,

  • Szaface

  • Gregg Shorthand

If you are over the age of 14 and typing/talking like this, you REALLY need to take a good, long look in the mirror. Honestly man.
