Hedo Turkoglu Says He Took Steroid By Accident

Following the announcement of Hedo Turkoglu’s 20-game suspension, the Orlando Magic forward released a statement along with his team, in which they claimed that Turkoglu accidentally ingested methenolone, the banned substance for which he was suspended. Per the Orlando Sentinel: “‘While I was back home in Turkey this past summer, I was given a medication by my trainer to help recover more quickly from a shoulder injury,’ Turkoglu said in the statement. ‘I didn’t know that this was a banned substance and didn’t check before taking it. I take full responsibility for anything that goes into my body. This was a complete error in judgment on my part and I apologize to the Orlando Magic organization, the league, my teammates, and the Magic fans. I know I have let down a lot of people and I am truly sorry for my mistake.’ Orlando Magic GM Rob Hennigan said: ‘Hedo unknowingly took a banned substance. There are more than 125 banned substances on the NBA List, and we spend a lot of time educating our players on the contents of that list and will certainly continue to do so moving forward. We believe this was an honest mistake.’ Turkoglu has missed most of the season because he fractured his left hand on the season-opener. He also has missed the team’s last three games. At the time, team officials said Turkoglu missed the first two games because he had flu-like symptoms and missed the last game — Sunday’s win over the Portland Trail Blazers — because he had a sore back.”

Has any professional athlete who has been caught taking steroids ever not pointed the blame elsewhere?

…So was he going for the black tar or the China White?

“Hedo, how was this an accident?”

That is so offensive…but that was probably the funniest comment I’ve seen on here in a long time.

  • LakeShow

I don’t want to co-sign ZOGS comment, due to my hopes of still entering heaven upon death, but that’s one of the funniest comments of all time.

An accident? I am sure a certain Mr Lance Armstrong spat that line too at some point. What a joke. Man the f**k up and take responsibility for your actions already.

  • theDankerNuggets

i didn’t realize he was even still playing for the Magic

I thought heaven was for the selected few approx 144,000. Not sure if you’ll be drafted in the top 144,000 of 7 billion, Lake. Going to the D-League like the rest of us Slam folk.

  • TV63

I wondered where the hell he’s been. Not suprised by the accidently dose of steroids.

  • roscoe

Maybe in Turkey they believe you Turk… but…

N d’rest of d’world we all know that snake-Oil from trainers is almost always illegal.

  • Cameron

He clearly said he takes full responsibility to what goes into his body? Apparently you missed that part.

  • house

Nope I didn’t. Part and parcel of being a professional athlete is knowing exactly what you are putting into your body so that you don’t compromise yourself knowingly or unknowingly, or at the very least, ensuring that you get sound counsel from the (supposed) experts that the athlete is dealing with. Saying he takes full responsibility at this point is redundant. And yeah, I had forgotten he was still on the Magic roster also.

  • KoloradoKobe

144,000…of ALL TIME. Not just the current 7 billion. That’s not even NBA odds…that’s HOF odds. The D-League is going to be stacked.

  • Slick Ric

He wasn’t taking steroids with that body he has…somebody is obviously setting Hedo up and he had no choice but to go along with because of compromising photo’s or something… There has to be a better explanation. Lol & Smh

  • Cameron

I forgot he even still played in the NBA. I thought he would have been in Europe by now.

  • Cameron

    Lance Armstrong…?….

  • RKJ92

    LOLOLOL Best comment ever..

They are wording this like he knew it was a banned substance and took it by accident, when in actuality, he knew what he was taking but he didn’t known it was on the banned substance list. It’s his fault either way, but there’s a big difference.

Russell Westbrook would take it like a man.

  • Ugh

Holy crap that’s ignorant. Did you think that you take a dose of steroids you instantly become buff? And that’s the only application it has? Steroids aid muscle repair (which is how they aid in weightlifting). He had an injury. He repaired it with a steroid. He took steroids. The end.

  • Slick Ric

    It’s joke a joke numbskull…..SMH

  • Caboose

What if that 144,000 quota has already been filled? What if some REALLY awesome dude comes along, then dies, do they have to kick some people out? Or do they build like a Heaven alcove?

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Nick Tha Quick

If someone really that awesome comes along, then the rules say that there will be a supplemental draft where the last few people in and the really awesome dudes will be available for selection.
St Peter on the podium at the pearly gates, ” With the 144,000th and final pick, we select….” [Knicks fans boo furiously]

  • Caboose

Damn that would suck if you were an awesome dude in ancient Greece. You’re chilling in clouds for thousands of years, then God goes: draft time! And then you don’t get picked. You’d feel pretty screwed wouldnt you?
