JJ Redick Was Shocked By Trade to the Milwaukee Bucks

It wasn’t a surprise that the Orlando Magic traded JJ Redick yesterday. Redick had steeled himself for the possibility, but when the six-player deal went down, the veteran guard says it still came as a shock. Per the Orlando Sentinel: “I think you can prepare yourself as much as you think you can,” Redick said. ‘But when the moment comes, there’s certainly an initial shock, and I was shocked. The most difficult part was definitely saying bye to everybody, people that I’ve spent a lot of time with over the last seven years and built relationships with and built friendships with. That was difficult. There’s no really easy way to handle it,’ he added later. ‘Trading is tough, tough. It’s my first time experiencing it: It’s tough.’ Redick and the Magic were still in Dallas when he caught wind of a possible deal around 2:30 p.m. Eastern, and he said he received a phone call from general manager Rob Hennigan ‘at about 2:59′ to be told he was traded. Redick didn’t accompany the team to Tennessee. He’s planning to arrive in Milwaukee on Friday morning. [...] Redick, who is in the final year of his contract, said he hasn’t spoken with the Bucks yet about his long-term plans. ‘I think with them bringing me in I assume they want to get into the playoffs, make a playoff run and try to get as high a seed as possible,’ he said. ‘Hopefully, I can help them do that and we’ll deal with the summer when the summer happens.’ Redick, who will turn 29 in June, will become an unrestricted free agent in July because his current contract can’t be extended.”

reddick: “what? Milwaukee? no it’s pronounced san Antonio!

  • spit hot fiyah

so if ellis opts out in order too seek a long term deal, the bucks have reddick, Jennings and ellis as free agents this summer. interesting

  • Caboose

So now the Bucks have 3 undersized shooting guards and at the end of the season they’ll have none!

Ellis or Jennings will be back in Milwuakee next season. One of them, no question.

  • Caboose

Redick is most likely leaving, and Jennings is for sure gone..yeah I can see Milwaukee throwing max money at Ellis out of desperation.

  • RunNGun

He’ll be back in Orlando for the start of the ’13-’14 season. Bank on it!

you are missing something about Jennings buddy.

  • Caboose

    Hm?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    He’s restricted

  • Caboose

True, but if Milwaukee matches, they’ll have an even-worse Eric Gordon situation. I doubt they want their max player pissed off for the entirety of his contract. If I had to guess, they’ll do a sign and trade.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

if Ellis walks. Jennings stays. Unless the team trying to sign him for the max has a cornerstone type player or top 5 pick to give up for him.
    .
If Jennings wants to get traded, he will not mope or make a fuss about the situation. Milwuakee isn’t going to just give him away because he’s unhappy. I hope he isn’t stupid enough to think so.

  • Caboose

The crux of that relies on Jennings being smart about his status. Honestly though, the Hawks and Bucks could do a double sign and trade with Jennings and Smith. Because Jennings WILL mope if he’s stuck on the mediocre Bucks for 3 more years.

  • mmd

As long as Bieber performs in Milwaukee, he will be happy…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i really really don’t think that’s very likely. especially considering the new rules make using a sign and trade as a double edged sword. As they will lose their MLE if they do perform a sign and trade.
    .
And i highly doubt Atlanta has any interest in Brandon Jennings. As many (including myself) would rather have Jeff Teague anyway.

monta getting max money makes as much sense as josh smith getting max money i thought the lockout was supposed to stop teams for overpaying players

  • #13

Is danny ferry going to resign teague

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

definitely. Teague is restricted too. Is a much better defender than Jennings, and will likely cost between $7-$9 million less PER SEASON. no brainer he resigns him unless some team idiotically offers Teague north of $10 mill per year.

  • Caboose

You know Atlanta was asking about Jennings this trade deadline right?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

not for themselves. they were trying to get a third team involved. They wanted Ilyasova or Sanders.
    .
Milwuakee was only willing to give up some combination (not exactly sure what the “best” offer was) of Henson/Udoh/Udrih/Harris/Daniels/Draft Pick

don’t be surprised eric gordon did sign for $40 mill and he’s not a $40 mill type of player

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Eric Gordon is a much better player then anyone we are talking about man. Much much better. Look at his numbers his last year in LA

  • #13

he put numbers that did not equal wins, is he really that much better than Jennings or Ellis he can’t even stay healthy

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yes he is. he is much better. top flight offensive player. top 20 defensive 2. he’s much much better. you can have a different opinion, but around the NBA that’s the general consensus.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

and you have to put into context who he was playing with if you want to talk sh*t about wins…..

  • #13

you missed what i’m saying even you believe gordon is better than monta or jennings what’s the point in having him if he can’t stay healthy, If i were a GM I would not give any of the 3 $40 mill

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

maybe because he can stay healthy?
    .
the problem is keeping him happy.
